Fabia Big Brakes

Featured Replies

Is this doable? To put a big brake kit on a Fabia which is designed for an Octavia Vrs.

my question would be why ?? especially @ £800 + 😮  I would have to REALLY need them !!

The standard brakes on my RS are great, and if your siggy is correct, you have a Monte carlo which don't really need them.........or am I missing something.

Thanks for the reply mate but I'm only asking is it doable?

Yes it's a Monte

Im not sure if those specific ones will fit, I think it depends on the alloys you have as well.

There is quite a few who fit bigger brakes.....usually using parts from other VAG cars, try a search on here for it....and or convert drum brake rears to discs which would help no end

I believe the 4 pot VW Touareg Calipers may fit from what I've seen online.

I'm running 17" wheels, I've measured and should just fit. Second hand unrefurbished calipers go for about £175-200 Mark

Just found some Brembo GT-r calipers................over £1000 😮

Shame you're so far away from Scotland. My 2006 Ibiza Cupra was uhmm, retired last week and has the Seat Sport AP Racing calipers on it. I'm sure they'd fit.  You could have had the whole car for less than the cost of those Brembos.

@fabia_simon

Anything is possible if you spend enough or can do the work with the bits you want.   Better options than an Octavia Kit available so that you can use the wheels you already have.

So what actual Mk2 Fabia Mk2 do you have, petrol with what engine output or diesel & what are you doing with the rear drum brakes or is there already a disc brake conversion done?

Plenty threads on here about Brake Upgrades to Mk2 Monte Carlos and rear brake conversions if you do a search,

then stuff in the Fabia Project Section showing what has been done.

Standard size brakes on the Monte are fine. Just use decent fluid and pads.

I get so many people telling me the standard brakes are fine, I know this. But what's wrong with upgrading and being a little different? please don't comment if you're just going to say standard brakes are fine and not give out useful advice. Rant over lol.

The engine is a 105hp 1.2 Monte Carlo eventually I'll get a stage 1 remapped that should bump it upto 130ish.

Next week is going into a longlife exhaust centre to have a cat back system fitted.

Yes it does have drums at the rear atm but that's not an issue right now.

Nothing wrong with upgrading braking performance.

(Fabia Mk2 vRS standard brakes are just so so but stop the car, but then setting can be done on brake assist and disabling the XDS ect)

Just no need to go bigger or more expensive than is good for the car performance even if you take it to 200bhp.

There will be those along that can advise and have done upgrades and track their cars.

Plenty to do to get an efficient and balanced set up that your insurers will be perfectly happy to insure.

@AMD87

Should know what parts are available at good prices. Maybe people with stuff for sale that has been take offs.

I like how you said good prices yet my latest darkside bill was over £3k 😂

@AMD87

So do you know any good deals where someone is not wanting to spend more than needs be for just upgrading Mk2 Fabia brakes?

I’m using EBC yellow stuff at the moment and they were great at Cadwell.

A lot of people don’t like them but you’ll find it’s the people using heavy cars that don’t like them whereas the Monte is a light car.

The monte is on average at least 100kg lighter than the vRS mines weighed at 1180kg with just under half a tank on the Motorsport scales at Knockhill so proper accurate scales. The vRS is just over 1300kg.

Ive used stuff like carbotech (had to be custom made not cheap you’re looking at over £200 for a set) mintex (awesome pads) and brembo hp2000s (absolutely rubbish and couldn’t wait to get them off).

Fluid is the best important thing. I use castrol react srf race fluid. Not cheap about £60 a litre. Good cheap alternative is Motul RBF660 that can be had for £15 per 500ml so around £30 a litre but would advise bleeding the full system and no mixing it with anything else.

Braided lines next but not a hugely important thing.

Disc wise I use MTEC C Hooks again not cheap at £85 a set. If doing discs I’d only do ether plain discs or c hooks, NEVER do drilled discs.
