Coolant concentrate for 2013 Fabia tsi

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a 2013 Fabia TSI estate and am off on a weeks touring holiday soon. I thought it would be a good idea "just in case" to buy a container of coolant and carry it with me. I have never had to top the coolant since I bought  it in October 2013, the level is just above the minimum when cold and this has been    the case since I bought the car and this was purely  a case of extra insurance. I looked up the internet and got different answers as to which coolant to buy so I contacted my usual independent. They took my reg and contacted TPS and I collected a one and a half litre container of G13 this morning, purple in colour. It says it is original VAG spec.

My car has G12 on the expansion tank. I understand from various forums that G12 was discontinued  sometime in 2012/2013. Bearing in mind that I will only be using this new container for topping up is  it OK to use G13  for this/  I do not want to use just water to top up and I do realise that I should use distilled water to mix the concentrate. I have found TPS to be great in the past, I am just checking my bases on this. I do hope G13 is OK to use. I

                 Thanks for reading.

Yes, G12 and G13 (the pink'ish ones) are compatible.  IIRC G13 superseded G12 and the end product is near enough the same, only the manufacturing process was altered (to be more environmentally friendly).

As long as you're not mixing it with the older blue coolant (G11?) then you shouldn't have any issues.

HTH.

Agreed. The critical point is to NEVER mix G12 or later (pink or orange) with a glycol based coolant (blue or green).

Sorry for not responding sooner, I have been away. Thats good news. Initially I did wonder if  the coolant I took delivery of was the right one and I think my garage felt the same because of the different colour as seen on the cap. I rate TPS highly however and they acted on the car registration supplied by by garage so I soon came to think that it was all good.

Now I know they are compatible do I assume that the small amount if coolant needed to top up will hardly change the existing pink colour if I do have to top up?

         Thanks.

@hetty1 - I've not seen your top up container, but my experience is that coolant in top ups looks darker than the same stuff in a clear or translucent white header or expansion bottle anyway.
