Hi all

 

Tried just using the auto and then manual LHD and RHD headlight driving mode in infotainment last year, and got fed up with being constantly flashed in France.

 

So I tried to use some headlight deflectors earlier this year and had just as many flashes! 

 

I've got a Feb 2018 VRS 230 if that helps.

 

How's everyone else's experience of driving at night in Europe? If it's just me then I guess I need to go back to Skoda and see if my lights need some sort of manual adjustment.

 

Thanks, I know there are a few posts on "how to", but not did it work?

Which did you have it set to? Did it not change automatically with using the Nav GPS?

Like other things that are MEANT to changeover with GPS it doesn't 🙄.

 

You have to do it manually via the infotainment system, like the clocks which are meant to change but don't and so on so forth.

 

Skoda simply not clever. My mates Jaguar does it perfectly.

 

And if you do it manually you generally have no problems with it.

My clocks do change automatically using the Nav's GPS 

Mind letting me know how to get it to do it please. Mine never have. Lights have never changed over automatically either.

Tried both manually, didn't seem to make a different, got flashed by almost every lorry we passed for 6 hours!

They dont change enough they only adjust a little the only way I didn't get flashed was with the stickers you can buy, I'm sure I read somewhere on this forum that skoda also do a sticker set that's supposed to be pretty good

Thanks, tried some Halfords ones earlier this year and still got flashed. Could find out how to exactly fit them though?? Any ideas? Skoda ones sound good?

Yeah I had that, the instructions are not very good with where to place them, I never personally got the ones from skoda as I just deceided to manually lower the beam using the adjusting screw on top of the light. This worked best for me

That available on all models/versions, thinking I'll take a look at how to do that, as was a PITA getting flashed every 5 mins, empty toll roads too!

Yep I had a 18 TDi vrs last year and I was getting flashed alot, so the way I did it was park my car against a wall and mark out where my original beam is, so you can put it back to that after your trip then, use the screws on each light to lower the beam, if you've got acsess to a headlight beam viewer(garages, mot test centre, local skoda garage) it's even better, this will would help make sure you set them to a flatbeam. But on the downside your lights are going to be crap at night as the kick is pretty big. But you won't get flashed and you can always set them back when you get back home.

My system already has an option for time which is checked and it doesn't make a jot of difference. 😕

I fitted Halfords beam deflectors when I went to France in my 1.4 TSI Elegance, never got flashed once when driving with the headlights on.

I've tried doing the adaptation using OBDELEVEN which the car accepted, but it just seemed to revert the time back to GMT which is wrong, so I set it back to BST.

 

Like I said I've had no issues with my headlights using tourist mode settings, so have no need for deflectors, maybe down to the electronic suspension system, but never had any issues with the previous car which had standard RS suspension.

I presume when you said you were "fed up with being constantly flashed", what you actually meant was that you were "fed up with constantly dazzling oncoming drivers with your dangerous headlights"?

From experience having to pass the German TUV Light Test after taking MY19 Uk VRS245 to live in Germany for a couple of years at the start of this year the settings change from RHD/LHD for lights provided minimal change but seemed enough to prevent dazzling other drivers. After some head shaking etc from the TUV testers and me panicking at the thought of shelling out £1k+ to change the headlights in a car I only plan to keep for a year and then sell on the gents tweaked the controls on the light cluster and managed to bring them within tolerance (possibly just), but a pass is a pass.
