Fancy new Forge air intake for my 2.0tsi vrs 245

Evening all ,

 

iv recently made the upgrade from the mk2vrs 

to a spanking new (ex demo) f/l mk3 245 ,..

the mk2 is stage 1 with a few various mods pcv delete , revo air intake

 

I’m feeling the 245 is pretty mundane in comparison so Iv splurged on the forge motorsport carbon fibre air intake .

 

After the installation I proudly posted it on the FB mk3 vrs group but some chap on said group has commented that the turbo bearings will be put under stress without the turbo elbow and muffler delete ,

Iv done a quick bit of research and got basically nothing so can anybody shed some light on this please .

 

i would like to add that I’m totally up for buying more bits for my beast but would just like to hear a second opinion or maybe even several lol 😂 

 

Also the air filter sounds awesome and has a nice little bit of a quicker pedal response too ,...winning 😁

It’s interesting you say that because I initially responded greatfully thanking him of the heads up and informed him that these would be my next purchase if this would benefit the overall modifications ,he didn’t respond at all  but in retrospect im

wondering that it may be a case of what you precisely describe , which is a shame as I’m still learning and find this sort of thing really unhelpful ,

Dunno how an intake could possibly stress the turbo bearing, but the turbo elbow upgrade is proven to flow a lot better, it's worthwhile imho.

I bought the APR c/f induction kit, and got a Racingline elbow and silicone pipe (as I wasn't going to be a double-wally and buy a £100+ c/f pipe too). 

 

I got them because the voices in my head told me to. That, and it felt like it would be better to finish the system off than just do 1 component only.

Neither, most frustrating demo I've ever done, fantastic drivers car but, you have to post luggage into the boot cos it has a boot lid instead of a hatch. I would have lived with the smaller boot but, not its access & there's NO chance of towbar (even aftermarket) I do tip runs but, don't put smelling stuff in any of my cars.

 

Fn unbelievable driver though 335bhp/tonne twould be really, ZF 8 speed is very good, exhaust sounds like Italian artillery is race mode but, that's suicide mode, every drivers aid is turn off, FFS even the ABS.

 

In short, totally awesome & impracticable at the same time.

Yeah I could never buy a saloon with the silly boot apertures. Even my Octy hatch can get 7 large suitcases behind me and SWMBO. If I buy a Superb Sportline Estate for commuting we could probably get bookings for B & B there is so much room back there.:thumbup:

Hey no worries at all and I really do appreciate the explanation @themanwithnoaim This is the problem unfortunately people right 3 or 4 lines and then disappear leaving me a little unsure someone said this about the air intake Initially and then after speaking to a local tuner to me who runs revo map business closets to me and he said Iv never heard anything like it and probably balls ,...The video I watched about this specific airtake he fits the turbo elbow but the chap was Italian so I couldn’t really get what he was saying but thought then that might be worth getting so I will order it now and as for the muffler delete is it easily accessible or is that more of a profession job to fit ?

Wife sometimes says to me "who do you think you are Buzz Lightning"?:D

I am really curious as to why a less restrictive intake will put strain on the turbo bearings and the same intake with elbow and muffler delete will not.

440 miles per tank...is that mostly motorway miles ?  I'm impressed.

 

I have 245 dsg and average minimum of 250 miles per tank. With motorway can bring that to over 300 miles.  Fitted dtuk box tonight, so see what happens now.

Yeah 70% motorway cruising below the limit and the best I got on a tank was 526 miles. Did Midlands to the Isle of Wight and back on 8 gallons at 45mpg.:nod:

That's decent. I did 120 mile motorway journey at the weekend and that returned 43mpg.

Life is too short - LOL

 

According to Fuelly the best I have ever had out of my O3 is 40.3 MPG and current Ave is 33.4 compared to my previous O2 FL vRS of 34.7 MPG and Ave of 30.7

 

 

Not sure I have the discipline to stick under 70mph to get max MPG on long journeys unless in convoy with my mate's van, slip-streaming behind.

 

Most of the time I set out with the intention to be economical, and then start regularly accelerating away from dual-carriageway roundabouts, ringing it out in 4th just to enjoy sound and torque 🙄

 

One day I might grow up. Probably not though...

The muffler delete is there to be done when replacing the elbow, reasonable DIY level required.

Turbulence free air path exiting the turbo.

 

Larger elbow diameter with smoother airflow from removing the muffler, turbos spin fast, turbulent air puts additional strain on turbo bearings, it's not rocket salad
