DMF price

Morning all.

 

Do any of you knowledgeable peeps have any idea, ball park, as to the cost of replacing DMF and clutch in a 2014 Superb please ??

 

Any recommends on where to have the work carried out please??

The clutch slave cylinder went on my 2014 4x4 estate at the end of last year which also means the clutch gets contaminated with fluid and needs changed.  Circa 40k miles so it didn't last long.....thanks Skoda....!

 

Anyway, I was kinda backed into a corner with the potential of some Skoda 'goodwill' due to the FSH etc so I had it recovered to the local dealer for the work.  Circa 800 quid for the new cylinder and a clutch replacement including 'goodwill gesture'.....hmmm....

At the time I asked about the DMF since they were pulling it to pieces anyway and this was going to be an extra £500 quid so given the mileage and condition report and knowing I drive in a sympathetic manner I left it.

Its not going to be cheap whatever option you go for.  Bearing in mind I was paying dealer rates and the 4x4 required extra time to strip and rebuild.

Might be worth asking them to replace the concentric slave cylinder while they are at it as these are a weak point, assuming its not included in the clutch kit.

 

Best bet is to get some quotes, you may still get some 'goodwill' if you have a decent dealer and FSH, failing that a decent independent should be able to sort you out for a good bit cheaper than I paid.

A ‘good independent ‘ has quoted, starting at, £2000 + vat + £90 original diagnostic.

 

sounds pricey to me ??

Well that woke me up :o

 

£2,000 plus the initial £90 diagnostic fee with VAT on top, so £2,508 for an (unknown brand) clutch and flywheel fitted to a 2WD Skoda Superb?

 

@Anglosaxon is the location in your profile the name of the "good independent" that quoted you? Might explain things! Either that or your real location is central London.

 

As mentioned earlier, I paid £600 for an LUK clutch and dual mass flywheel (DMF) at a local independent. This was on my 2011 2WD 2.0 TDI CR140 manual Superb, excluding the slave cylinder, and was a few years ago now (December 2016).

 

Be aware though that my Superb has a manual gearbox. I see that yours is a DSG. I'm assuming that the removal of a DSG gearbox may well be more complicated, and therefore take longer / cost more labour versus my manual box. Isn't DSG a twin clutch system?...

Unless the DSG does indeed bring with it a whole load more cost, I can only assume that the garage who have quoted you have misquoted or misunderstood the work required.

 

Whilst not applicable to you, the reason for my new DMF was the well documented weakness built into the Sachs flywheel pressure plate that unfortunately plagues a lot of Superb's from the same era mine was built. Luckily, thanks to this forum I was able to hear and recognise the symptoms before it was able to take the gearbox out with it, so be sure to ask which brand of components the garage is quoting for...

If the price you've been quoted is accurate, and is reflective of the area where you're based, I know of some good hotels up near Darcy's, which after paying for a premium room, with a slap up meal for you and your partner, plus fuel, will still save you well over £1,500, even with the extra labour associated with the DSG gearbox :thumbup:

If your is a DSG that price will be roughly correct
What is wrong with your car?

Dmf can be replaced separately without doing the very expensive clutch packs in the DSG well the clutch packs arent expensive but the training and tool costs are that you have to go through to be even supplied with the clutch packs.

I watched my mate do a 3 cylinder seat Toledo DSG clutch pack last night very interesting. Its all specialist tools and very accurate measuring of shims to set them up correctly.

I will admit my DMF bill showed circa £1100 without clutches..........circa 2011/12

 

It was fitted by Clock Garage (Skoda Indy at my request) but paid for by the selling garage. I suspected possibly an inflated bill, but maybe not???
