The 2019 Election - Done and Overwhelmingly Dusted!!

Favourite heckler so far the chap in Scotland (may have been Glasgow) who asked Mr Corbyn before he was ushered away from answering the question "who will be the first terrorist you invite to Parliament when you become PM". Wonder whether Jeremy remembers inviting members of the IRA governing council on a previous occasion when he wasn't Leader of the Labour Party.

Reading on twitter that the Conservatives have blocked senior cabinet ministers from appearing on political shows/discussions/news segments.

Tories aren't putting up ministers except to friendlies, or if flanked by the party PR machine

Several are not doing live media interviews at all anymore.

This is from the journalists themselves.

Hiding away?

Just to be clear about one thing - with the UK election system of first-past-the-post, whatever the outcome, the majority will not be happy...........and that’s before the unmentionable threat.

Given most Asian countries give basic free Internet to all, not that radical a policy. And something needed for us to be world leading in the future ;)

You’ve obviously missed the (extremely important and expensive) bit about part nationalising BT as part of this lol!

Friday the 13th December is going to be a hugely important day for the UK.

It is 'Save the Children's Christmas Jumper day.'

http://savethechildren.org.uk/christmas-jumper-day

That should cheer up those that thought they were getting back into parliament in their safe seats.

Wear a Christmas Jumper.

I’m just a bit confused as to whether criticising Corbyn is a preferred position and thus acceptable to moderators.

If that’s not the case this election should be analysed thoroughly, because the consequences are massive -

For some reason I think this is exactly what Boris was hoping to bring about -

It's one of those never going to happen promises.

The start date for roll out wouldn't be until 2030.

Just a ploy to entice the youth

I would not trust Corbyn to run a raffle not mind the country, for labours sake they really need to get rid of him after he flops at this GE

Seems like all the parties are well into their stride now.  Labour making promises they can't afford to keep, Tories making promises they have no intention of keeping and the Lib Dems promises they have no hope of keeping.  It's the same every election.

And with an electoral system such as yours it’s guaranteed to disappoint nearly everyone every time.  Only the yanks do a worse job.

You may criticise whichever candidate you like but I’m getting tired of having to watch the stupidly OT videos just to see if anything is remotely (but directly) relevant to the election.
So much so that this is your final chance to to either conform with what I’m asking or stop posting in this thread.
That shouldn’t lead to any confusion should it? 🗳️

So it is a club.

Boss of BT said the real cost of free Broadband would be nearer to £100 billion and this promise has already reduced the value of BT share price today which is a good example of how Labour would affect the stock market which would also reduce the value of Private Pensions as many are related to the overall value of stocks and shares.

If your making manifesto promises then go big or go home. No doubt it will have been something they would like to do and it was never in the manifesto just like the student loans in the last GE.

Im still confused with the Labour stance on the EU with wanting to nationalise all these businesses creating a state monopolies, which is in direct contravention of EU legislation.

Great question from the Mirror reporter at the Labour live press conference. As the Government will be taking charge of UK Broadband "will Labour ban PORN?". There was no answer from the 4 people on the podium. Another good question there would be huge disruption from all the roads that would be dug up in order to lay the new fibre optic cables and how would this benefit commuters. We personally have had to put up with local roads being dug up for 5 weeks recently and it caused long delays at peak times and higher than normal levels of air pollution as a result.

The ducts are pretty much already in place. Openreach are recovering the old copper cables to free up more duct space.
They're already putting fibre into pretty much every new build development (when I left is was any development with > 12 plots IIRC)
Lots of retro fibre fitting has been going on for ~ two years now and very minimal digs required.
Don't forget, mass fibre rollout is nothing new, it's already been going on for years so the only thing different is this 'we'll make it free' malarky.
But try not to get to worked up because the same things are being said by another mouth rather than the one you prefer to listen to ;)

I think it's a great idea, I just wonder whether it's affordable though.  Big election pledges like this rarely come to pass.

I think nationalisation is also suitable for utilities and rail, anything that is a natural monopoly shouldn't be privatised and certainly shouldn't be owned by conglomerates of foreign companies and pension funds.

To all those shareholders that might lose a bit of money - boo hoo.  The value of shares can go down as well as up.
