Octavia vs mondeo

Recommended Posts

I was a previous Ford owner before Skoda, having had the Mk3.5 Mondeo ST TDCI (155bhp) and then the Mk4.5 Mondeo Titanium X Sport (240PS). Both cars were excellent, engines and handling were good and the standard of kit was excellent, far better than any of the VAG.

The difficulty I had was that I wasn't enamoured by the Mk5, and Ford having taken away the ST with the Mk3.5 Mondeo, and then the TXS with the Mk4.5, left a fairly lackluster top of the range offering - standard engines and the option to add different trim levels. No top of the range uprated engine model. I also thought the car was getting increasingly bigger.

The ST line was introduced after I'd moved to Skoda.

I'm very happy with my vRS, but would consider a move back to Ford if subsequent Mondeo versions were more like the Mk3 or Mk4.

One last point; if I was comparing the Mondeo to Skoda, I'd say it's closer to the Superb than the Octavia, apples with apples, and all that 😉

The problem for European Ford customers is the move to make the American Fusion version a World Car suitable for all markets when all US customers demand is space, an auto box and a soft comfy ride on their arrow straight interstates. Back in 2009 when I wanted a large car I chose the new Mk2 Superb over the then current Mondeo I as just didn't like the styling direction Ford were heading in plus the Skoda was better equipped and cheaper model for model.

They still sell to Ford UK for First Registration then are leased or sold as Demonstrators / used vehicles until there is no more produced.

These numbers can not be right, ?

Skoda will not have First Registered more than 90,000 last year of all Skoda Models in the UK.

I have owned an Audi A3 myself a while back (and have also experienced numerous VW passats) and over the 3 years I owned it, had numerous warranty issues which lead to me having other audis as courtesy cars for extended periods of time (A4's and an A6, also once a Vauxhall zafira wtf?) . Granted the A6 I ran briefly which was an s-line V6 tdi was very nice but clearly a category of car way above an octy, however the A4's did not impress me one iota for the price point they came in at, ride quality, fit/finish and noise were on a par with the octy vrs (Mk2 face-lift) I changed my A3 for, also found the interior space of the fairly large A4 to be quite cramped and an awkward boot being a saloon rather than a hatch/fastback like the superb/octy, when comparing to an Octavia or indeed the smaller A3 even.  Also the A4's were as dull as ditch water to drive even the sportier s-line models. Also the A4 I believe (or at that time anyway 2008/09/10) shared its platform with passat/superb whereas the octavia shared with the golf/A3 so not really fare to compare to an octy anyway.

Of course Skoda make manufacturing savings somewhere along the lines in order to make their cars cheaper, in my view that's a good thing, it saves me money. Personally I have fairly recently taken ownership of a Kodiaq sportline 2.0tsi, if I went to Audi for a 7 seat car I would have to step to the category above for a Q7 at basically double the money. So really Audi are missing a trick by not having a mid sized SUV with 7 seats judging by how many Q5's are kicking around Audi would quite likely sell quite a few 7 seat versions.

I totally appreciate that everyone has a different take on how they view a car and what they are prepared to pay for what they are getting. IMO I don't see the price premium for a VW/Audi as worth it over a Skoda /Seat.

Audi is far superior to Skoda, materials, fit and refinement and drive  I own both along side each other. Chalk and cheese. And so is Ford to lesser degree. That's why they massively outsell Skoda and always will. They are better and styling wise far better.

Keep kidding yourselves IL😂

You could always buy a Focus ST Estate for about £33,000.

Well £29.5k from DTD and £31 carwow with all the extras too. Dynamic cruise, heads up, lane assist etc, heated screens, seats  plus wheel, rev matching, driving modes, adaptive suspension, Recaro,s, wireless charging, 19" with ps4s etc etc  I would and might get one, but Type R GT is favourite and has a decent boot.

Ford can ship them in and sell / lease first register just so many in the UK.

More Fiesta in a year than all Skoda models in 2018,

and with the Focus more than 60% first registered in 2018 than all the Skoda's. so Kodiaq, Superb, Octavia, Karoq, Fabia & Citigo and Skoda UK uses the same tricks as others,

pre registering and doing cheap deals to have fleet using them until sold as Used / Ex Management.

Not true and so what if they were ? Vast majority of Focus, Fiesta and Kuga go to private buyers.

And Ford's are not cheap, yet still wipe the floor with most brands. Again for a reason. I am not Ford biassed and have only had a dozen or so. But have to counter argue some of this Skoda nonsense. You bought a Skoda, you don't have to justify it, they are ok cars  Personally you can keep every one apart from the petrol  VRS for me, which was a good car, dated and left behind a bit now.

@teescom09

Are you in the Motor Trade?  Do you know your arse from your elbow?

Lots go to Motability Customers for a 3 Year Lease and the 4th Quarter list is out today.

Motability will be buying a fair few Mondeo in the next 3 months if there are people preparared to pay the advance payment.

As to Kuga, Focus / estate & Eco sport or Fiesta, great deals on them with Nil or low advance payments.

Skoda & SEAT have some good offers as well, especially on a 1.5TSI engine car,

Octavia / Karoq, or Leon / estate , Ateca.

Motability is the biggest group buyer in the UK.

Focus estate has a much bigger boot than the Civic but doesn't have the boy racer spoilers for the all important downforce at 165mph.;)

Opinions, opinions, opinions. Your entitled to your opinion (even when your wrong😉, let's see how big a blow back I get from that one...) And as far as Fords go (have you escaped from somewhere?) they are like baked bean tins compared to anything from VAG. They only out sell skoda because of the fleet market and the fact the Ford as do Vauxhall produce cars whether they have customers for them or not and then sell pre-reg at heavy discounts. Also I didnt notice what Skoda or Audi that you own? Apologies if you have said elsewhere already.

Currently watching a Police programme using dog vehicles on Merseyside and they bought 4 Mondeo Estates ST Diesels (2.0TDi) for just £20,000 each and spend £10,000 each converting them for Police use. The cars are converted 250 miles away at a specialist in Essex.

Must be old that was a long time ago. They were 2.2's. Diesel ST pointless as VRS diesel.

I don't give monkeys how many cars you've owned.

You said you own both Skoda and Audi side by side, so I am asking which ones?

Don't know why it is that people try to justify their purchase by slagging off the often superior competition. Inferiority complex I guess! Mondeo ugly and a Skoda looks better. Specsavers visit needed maybe. One thing the Mondeo is never called is ugly, it's one of the most attractive cars out there as agreed by nearly all of the motoring world. Also one of and often the best driving car in its class.

Been close to a S4  wish I had got it, but went A6 Quattro instead. Really like the last S4 /5. Current one is a crappy diesel so won't sell many of those

Brand new mate replacing 6 year old Hyundai estates which were too small. Point was fleet customers pay peanuts for Fords.;)
