  • This could be summarised slightly easier.   The most powerful engines in both cars are 2.0 petrol turbos producing around 240bhp.   The Mondeo weighs 200kg more than the Octavia.

  • Cough*** K Series Head Gasket ***Cough

  • Mondeo's used to be great to drive, but the latest one is a world car and is built for cruising comfort which doesn't suit the European market as well.   Saying that some of the extra weight

Twin Chargers do work well in Volvos.    VW never tried hard with what they learned buying into Suzuki (Fiat / Misubishi), which was sold back the night before the Emission scandal broke.

Where did Suzuki get the Billions to buy back last shares, that would be from Toyota... Who were back as the biggest car manufacturer in the world after 6 months as the 2nd.  Well just after VW were exposed / caught out, whistle blown on...

VW wanted to buy Volvo at one point.

The Head of VW USA Stefan Jacoby was there 2007-2010 during the intoduction of Green TDI's to the USA. He had been ar VW, Mitsubishi and back to VW,

married into the family / board.

He was thought to be the one to head VW Globally but never got that gig.

2010 off he went to Geely to Head Volvo.

Amazing but Volvo go big on Twinchargers and get them right.

Stefan Jacoby goes sick, leaves Vollvo and then moves to GM Global.

Small world.

Then the ex head of Skoda that left just after the emissions scandal has just joined the board of Geely / Volvo.

We had it 4 days, 200 miles and it cost me £6,000. I liked it but SWMBO wouldn't drive either Vrs245 so had no choice. Going to remap her Karoq now to try eliminate the 1st gear jerkiness.:D

Beat me just.

3 weeks and £6000 in 2010

Annoying thing was she wanted her faulty car back when the one I bought her was faultless. Hate driving the Karoq even more now.

Can only be the back because back doors forward is Galaxy and nothing beats the Galaxy for space in the class. That's why Anderton Lee only use galaxy which is one of if not the roomiest 7 sesters.

Does the Smax not have a considerably lower roof line and driving position than a galaxy?

I got an Alhambra for the space in the front and simplicity over a Galaxy, and enough rear load carrying with the seats down.

I had the choice of any of the big 7 seater Auto's.

Just a point worth noting. 2019 jd power dependability study.

Skoda 2nd, Ford 9th.

Dealership / Manufactures employees that have lots of time to complete surveys can be an issue.

There must be some real ****e out there if Skoda is in 2nd place honestly.

Skoda day one training.

'They all do that'. Never heard of that before',  'It is a characteristic',  'Now GTF and do not bother us!'

That's a little paranoid!

So who should be top in your opinion? (Honest question, no sarcasm).

That sounds like every garage in Inverness since AC took over about 1/2 of them and parks the other 1/3 or so. Well almost.

Actually, just sit a few hours in a busy Skoda Dealership near the Service Desk staff as customers come in to hand in a car and collect keys for a courtesy car, and explain their issues.

You will hear the same issues time after time and the customer being told that is something they are not aware of.

The technicians will investigate etc, if you are there as people collect cars that had similar issues and have had them dealt with or not it is hard to not laugh,

or go outside as they go to get their car and put them right.

Do the same in various busy Dealerships of different brands, you get to know what is what.

Arnold Clark owned College near Newbridge is an interesting place.    https://www.gtg.co.uk

I have worked for Arnold Clark. Years back when Sir Arnold arrived regularly at Branches.

I wonder what age of cars are in the survey?

If my experience and these forums are anything to go by the MQB cars seem to be more problematic.

Exactly, utter bull****. Nobody asked about my 3 warranty claims this year. New Turbo, wheel bearing and electric mirror.

But I thought Fords were perfect?

I think cars used to need to be 2 to 3 years old in each survey year.

So that 2019 survey will likely be 2016/17 vehicles.

Toyota, Suzuki, Mazda, Volvo, Lexus, BMW for starters. No cars are unreliable but Skoda are not near the top. Average at best. Those surveys are bull****.

VRS 😭 Nil warranty claims from our Ford's or BMW

Infact only warranty claims last few years have been the VRS. Including Audi, Nissan, Ford, BMW all problem free. Sorry clutch pack on Galaxy under warranty at 95000 miles

Tescom09:

I meant what manufacturer were the warranty claims for you mentioned?

Nevermind i just caught your last.

So if Ford had been top of that survey would it not be BS then?

What makes that the biggest joke toilet paper ever us look who is top 😂

Absolutely! In not biassed like most on here. Ford are average I would say but better than Skoda. I own both 🤗

Surprised MG isn't top. Usually up there with JD

In 2018 I claimed the following under manufacturers warranty for my Mk3 Octavia.

Coolant leak dumping all fluid in footwell requiring new carpets.

Two wheel bearings

Two DSG gear levers.

Two Clutch Packs.

DSG Mechatronics

Aircon failure

Under warranty dispute when I sold it.

Grinding noise on left hand lock.

Constant humming noise above 1200rpm.

Our Mk2 Octavia is 7 years old, had a turbo actuator replaced at 5 years old for £200 but that's the only issue we have had with it and is far more comfortable and refined than the MK3.

Personally I think fords age quickly.  I'm guessing a lot of this thread is based on driving new cars but as somebody who only buys second hand and keeps for a while I'd not but a ford, they age too quickly.  The MK2 Octavia looks better with age than the equivalent 05 Mondeo by far.

They always look great new, but just not a little while later.

If I was having a lease car I'd consider one but otherwise no.

In terms of reliability, id always put Honda and Toyota at the top.  From personal experience and from everyone I've known they just seem to work.  And continue to work.  Shame they're not always the most appealing to people in this country, for various reasons.

When I Googled that survey to find out the listings, Peugeot somewhat ripped the ar5e out my argument by coming top.
