Retro Fit Cruise Control

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My 2012 Fabia MK2 Monte Carlo doesn't currently have cruise control, but I'd like to retro fit it to the car as I travel long distances on motorways quite regularly. I've seen many YouTube videos that show the use of "VAGcom" for changing some coding on the ECU to recognise a new cruise control stalk. They seem to be mostly on 05/06 age cars.

Would I need to do this on my 2012 Fabia or do I need to go about it a different way?

Cheers, Simon

You need a kit from Skoda. Requires a stalk fitting, wiring installed and possibly a new module (that comes in the kit) then the whole lot needs coding with VCDS.

I charge £330 to supply and fit for example.

Hi, there's a VAG garage near me but they haven't got back to me with any prices.

It's like they don't won't the work, I'm based in Cornwall so travelling anywhere is going to cost me fuel plus parts and labour anywhere.

Quite a few places won’t touch them. They don’t make a great deal of money on them and getting them finished in the quoted time can be tricky.

I did mine and enjoyed doing it, but definately can see why some avoid the work and also why the going rate is what it is.

If you don't have VCDS and are not comfortable with fitting pins in plugs ete etc as it's fiddly, then consider paying for it to be done.

If you decide to give it to a garage which is NOT a skoda dealer (and even if it is), then I would highly recommend you make sure they have done one before.

I don't mind giving it a go, I'd rather do it myself than pay someone else to do it. I don't have VCDS cables though. There are lots of so called replica VCDS cables online but I'd rather borrow someone else's genuine cables. There's plenty of information out there on this subject it's just getting the equipment.

Not as much info on cruise on a Fabia 2 to be honest, plenty on the mark1 , and thats an EASY install. I photographed my insatll step by step as I did intend and may still do a write up on it, but it's a lengthy job and you have to be waht I would call competent in ALL areas of vehicle maintenance.

You will need VCDS, don't bother with cheap copies unless they will give you your money back if it does not work, even then I doubt they will code the control module, especially "if" you need to fit the replacement which comes with the kit.

If you intend to keep the Fabia long term and do cruise yourself to save money, then use the money to invest in VCDS and then you will have the best tool you can possibly have, unless offcourse you know someone who will lend you theirs.
