Ignition switch (w/ Kessy) restoration

Featured Replies

Really good guide, but in the end i just replaced the switch for the sake of £25, makes a massive difference.

Did this on Monday in my lunch break.

It really is very simple and straight forward. Took 15 - 20 minutes tops.

Was really having to press on the button previously and now the lightest touch switches the ignition on and off.

Great guide and helped a lot. The clips are a bit of a pain but nothing too bad

Not long before I'll have to do mine by the feel of it 😒

It just makes a contact so surely it must be plug and play?

Plug and play.

Followed the instructions. Didn’t have the pesky clip issue. All went smoothly apart from dropping a screw which I couldn’t find. All good thanks for the instructions and updates.

Ok. Old topic, but the issue seems to remain active.

I have this issue now. But it seems not to be the button. Anyone who knows what can be the next step in trouble shooting?

My button has occasionally required one extra push for react. I never spend that much worrying about it. But now it's completely dead. No reaction. Other kessy features (locking/unlocking the car) works, interior and exterior lightning works, heater works, radio works. But nothing in the gauge cluster, other than trip count/clock/indication on open doors, lights up.

I removed the button, cleaned it, and measured continuity, before putting it back. But nothing. Still no reaction when pushed. The LED in the button do work though, always did.

I did mine today and those plastic clips holding it together are a sod. I sprayed all contacts with Deoxit D5, expensive stuff but it dissolves corrosion and leaves a protective layer. I also sprayed all connections as these didn't look great!

On this topic. I had the same issue, and did the restoration as described. Did not work. I measured the circuit with a multimeter and concluded that the button operated as it should, but still not reaction from the car. Concluded it must be something else.

The car finally got towed to the workshop. As ignition didn't work they weren't able to read any diagnostics. After some extensive trouble shooting it turned out that the control board, responsible for authorisation and transfer the signal from ignition button, was broken.

Worked for a while but had to take it apart again, the problem is getting the plastic surround holding the contacts to line up exactly on the white plastic that is attached to the start/stop button. The soft plastic surround keeps distorting no matter how I line it up. Ordered a new pattern one!

In the above steps i found out problem , because of which the switch will not work even after doing everything stated above , and that's the blue contact pads , those need to be grinded as well , to make sure the electric signal is passing through them

Came to know about it from a youtube video , sharing a link for more clarity

Hi @superb316 is the link broken?

I don't have the issue yet, but like to keep ahead of the game.

This didn't last last so bought one off Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CKQLT3PJ?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_2. It's still working and easy replacement.

Thanks for this. My 2015 Fabia is getting very dodgy when it comes to start up now! I was going to repair the OG button, but it's like £8 for contact spray and £13 for a full replacement (albeit not OEM). So I've opted for a replacement. I bought the one in your link, is it still working okay for you?

I just went ahead and replaced it anyway. Works perfectly :-)
