Short summary of my experience.

My Octavia 1.5 TSI delivered late Nov 2018 has suffered a clutch failure.

 

I was actually at the workshop that morning to let a technician drive the car to address some complaints about a noise in the front and side window groan.  He tested the battery, but could not identify my problem. That evening I got in my car and after starting I could not get it out of first gear.  I then noticed the clutch was stuck to the floor and turned the car off.  I could then get it out of gear, but the clutch remained stuck.

That's when I called roadside assistance.

The car is in the workshop and I have a loaner Fabia

Did you mean 2018?

What mileage is on the car? 

Similar happened to me on both my mk2 and mk 3 manual diesel,turned out to be the master cylinder,new kit/cylinder solved it but both happened after quite a high mileage.

Around 17000km

The road side assistant said something about the master cylinder I believe (in German). And hat sounds about right.

 

That should really be a slam dunk warranty claim. 

Some diesel kodiaq owners have experienced repeated premature clutch failures, however I believe that they were the actual clutch itself and not master cylinder. Some of those owners are taking legal action against skoda. Skoda have acknowledged that there have been some reported cases but not enough to issue a recall on the models affected. 

Quite likely irrelevant to your 1.5tsi octy. 

Hopefully you won't have such issues.

I have just posted in the karoq forum about our clutch. My wife has a 1.5tsi where the transmission just gave out last week without any prior warning. Skoda have stripped the gearbox down and are stating;

 

"The technician has removed the gearbox as per authority and inspected the clutch and related components. Found signs of overheating due to clutch slipping, causing it to burn out. The flywheel also has signs of overheating and face damaged metal to metal. We are unable to carry this repair out under warranty as we have not been able to find any defects in the components within the gearbox that could cause this."

 

The car has done less than 8k miles and we took receipt of it in April 2018. It is on a lease so we are not the registered owners. 

There is absolutely no way after 16 years of driving that my wife has suddenly developed an inability to control a clutch. She ran a fiat 500 for 5 years and it didnt need anything beyond annual servicing done to it.

It's going to be something to do with the hydraulic actuation rather than the clutch itself.

May just be a slave cylinder or a leak in the pipe.  One way or another it sounds like you're not getting pressure in the system.

 

Slave cylinders are more common to fail, but nothing should be failing on a car of that age.

There was an epic thread on here where a poster had to fight to the death to get his clutch fixed after premature failure. He had an independant inspection done on the clutch plates and it showed the wear was uneven across the plate. You just cant do that with a pedal and slipping the clutch. Make sure they dont throw the parts away (you may have to pay to keep them strangely) as this will be your evidence if they wont move.

Sounds like master or slave clutch cylinder - should be under warranty as not wear and tear.

 

NB I think this gearbox has an external slave cylinder, not requiring gearbox removal to replace

I think the 1.5tsi is a 6 speed manual so the slave cylinder will be internal and part of the release bearing (normally the case with V.A.G cars, 5 speed external, 6 speed internal.) If the slave cylinder has failed then the fluid can contaminate the friction plate meaning a new complete clutch assembley.

It's the bigger petrol and diesel engines that have a concentric slave(inside bellhousing) - the smaller engine 6 speed petrol boxes are an external slave cylinder (and no DMF). Mine is six speed and has a slave cylinder on top of the gearbox - infact it's one reason I bought it.

 

Not 100% sure about the more powerful 1.5tsi

 

My son is about to buy a 2016 Octavia III 1.2tsi six speed and that has an external slave as well

It is a 1.5tsi, 6 speed.  Good question about the location of the slave cylinder. Still no word from the workshop on the repair. I assume thay will or I will ask to the extent of the repair.  ... In writing

I have just had a clutch failure on my 2015 Skoda Octavia Scout.  The mileage is only 25,000.  Is this normal?  I bought the car two years ago from Motorpoint and it had 14,000 on the clock - it had been a demonstrator / hire car at Skoda's Warrington branch.  The Skoda warranty had run out but I have an extended warranty.  £2000 repair.  Car off the road for 7 weeks.

If you want to know what type of cylinder it is, just go onto euro car parts, put in your reg, it'll show you a pic.

 

Seems mine is concentric (internal).

Seems a stupid design.  I've had to replace a few before, always external though.   They're prone to failure, it's a dynamic seal after all.  Not a problem when it's £40 and is only a 30 mins job.  If it's internal though...  That's just a pain!

You have a 4 year old car which has covered 25,000 miles the first 14,000 of which you have no idea how it was driven.  Clutch failure could be perfectly normal.  The £2000 repair bill sounds far from normal.

clutch was stuck to the floor

 

This happened on my other car Fabia Vrs 1 When clutch slave cylinder went at 75k miles. It is inside bell housing. I asked for my new clutch and flywheel as labor cost was similar.

Symptoms-  low brake fluid (hydraulic clutch shares brake fluid). Dripping brake fluid on floor through bell housing.

The clutch pedal is affected first before braking is affected.

well still waiting on my car to get out of the workshop.  When I asked on monday they could not give me any more information.  My irritation will begin to grow past one week on tomorrow.

Got the call and picked up my Octavia today.  it was the slave cylinder.  A week seems excessive, but the workshop was friendly and helpful and made the warranty claim easy with no hassle.
