Bitten the bullet.....

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just been to the dealer's to order my new Karoq.

Gone for 2.0 TDI 190 DSG Edition in Race Blue with digital cockpit, heated windscreen, heated steering wheel and Canton sound. Hope I've made the right decision on spec (gulp!!!).

Just a quick question on extended warranty. Was advised by the salesman that extended warranty is now no longer available at time of purchase and that Skoda will contact the owner when the intial three years is coming to an end? Is this what other folk have found as the website still suggests its a new car warranty at purchase time only.

Appreciate any comments re my choice (btw do 12k + per year with quite a bit of motorway driving - hence the dirty diesel choice!!).

Here's to a quick 3 months (apparently delivery pre March 2020)

Steve

I would double check directly with Skoda via the web chat feature.

In hindsight I would / should have got extended warranty when I ordered it. So will be interested to see if I now have option at end of the first three years...

Will given them (and the dealer) a shout in the morning. Don't want to miss out on this as I plan to keep the next car for ever.....!

That's the plan for me but the DSG is new to me and it was too late when I found out on here the possible issues and tis wise to get an extended warranty if it is cheap enough.

Anyway will be good to hear what happens. Cheers

@StevieK

That was duff gen from the sales person on the warranty.

It needs purchased before the car is first registered.

Do not trust anything else they tell you to be correct.

Best ask for another sales person that has been trained correctly.

Forearmed is forewarned. When buying a car never ever believe a sales man's guff, always always do all your homework beforehand.

You can buy extra warranty after the 3 years but not full manufactures, thats only available at time of purchase.

Cheers guys for the responses. I'll get this sorted ASAP. Need the extra peace of mind the warranty gives and a little annoyed that I've been given duff info (though not really surprised....).

Thanks again.

I think its before the car is registered,

I tried to order the extra warranty before registration and was told it was not possible as it had to be ordered at the time of purchase.

I think it might have to be at time of factory order rather than before first registration. Not certain on that though.

No spare wheel?

The spare wheel is part of the package for the Canton Sound System I believe. The sub woofer for the canton sits inside the full size spare wheel.

Deffo having a spare this time around - not faffing around with the gunge....

You're right.

Adding CANTON on the online configurator requests the need to also add the spare wheel...

How about things like Personalisation Mode and the HBA light assist - small money - but not something (personalisation) that can be added after...

Apart from that you have the 2 things I missed on my Edition - Heated Windscreen and Virtual cockpit..  ACC may be a beneficial option too if you do lots of motorways - added that to my Kodiaq -  order - no personal experience - but would seem beneficial for traffic  on motorway.. especially where there is cameras...

The extended warranty should be possible to add anytime prior to registration

However it is only available on retail sales, if salesman says not possible then stealer is pulling a fast one, and has your car classified as fleet or dealership use.  Complain to the sales manager or Dealer Principal (not the  twit with that talked BS at you)

The extended warranty (purchased later) is not comprehensive and has exclusions so not as good

It's very good on trunk roads too, especially in the long lines of steady 50mph traffic......

I paid extra for traffic assistance and in stop start traffic it really saves my leg and ankle. ACC is as said extremely useful and I would not be without again.

Cheers all.

All sorted now. Was an oversight on the salesman's part but all sorted now. There are indeed two levels - the five year up front manufacturers warranty which is only available at order time on a new vehicle and at the end of the standard three year warranty, a lesser one or two year extension.

As far as ACC goes, I did think about it but something had to give. The missus has it on her Polo GT but rarely uses it so I decided against.

Now to sit back and wait - though hopefully not the 11 months that I had to wait for the Yeti last time around.....

I think you now have to purchase the extended warranty a minimum of 28 days before you started to look at buying a Karoq!😂😂

@StevieK

Do you have that clarification in writing on the Extended Warranty?   Have Skoda UK Customers Services sent you the T&C's?

It is still available up to the car being First Registered in the UK.

Hi,

I've nothing in writing as such. Essentially the terms of the warranty extension on NEW cars are as set out on the Skoda Warranty page (https://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/warranty) where it does clearly state "New Car Warranty is only available on new vehicles at the time of ordering."

The new car warranty by virtue of this is not available after it has been ordered (i.e. first registered).

I can't actually see anywhere that details the difference between the cover provided in the New Car warranty extension VS the extended warranty listed further down the same page referenced in the link above. Would be interesting to know.

Personally, I wanted peace of mind that for 5 years, the car was covered. Nearly considered a Kia as an alternative as their 7 year warranty beats the standard 3 into a "cocked hat". Maybe VAG group will catch up. It needs to IMHO.

Cars that are in Stock and in Transit so are built can have the Extended Warranty if the buyer tells the Dealership before the car is first registered.
