front fog light replacent

Featured Replies

Iv got a 2014 which is the best front foglight replacement. Should i go led or put osram bulbs in? Thanks

Depends on whether you require them to be of use in actual fog, or just look like a **** with you fogs on constantly.

I drive on country/back roads constantly so extra light is handy for seeing whats on d edges. And be handy for actual fog

White light does not work well in dense fog.

Interestingly though, many manufacturers are using by default LED fog lights as standard - I am curious to see how well they work in actual fog, if the light is not yellowish.

Indeed a white LED fog light works very well on back roads that need to be well lighten.

I get the impression that front fog lights these days are nothing more than a cosmetic ‘upgrade’ and a way to up sell higher spec models.

They do give a sight improvement to visibility on unlit back roads. I coded mine to come on with my full beams and they do make some difference.

Is that an MOT fail or not? I was considering that and tried to find out and couldn't get a definitive answer as to whether the high beam was tested. I coded my fogs to flash with the main beam as I know main beam flash isn't tested, but I would be interested to have them act as spots and come on all the time with main beam if legal.

As for LED's, it will be illegal unless the housing is type approved for LED and I'll take a guess that it isn't since it has traditional filament bulbs in by default...

Full Beam on is so handy for lighting up country roads if there is nobody to be dazzled, dipped if there are people, drivers,

and dipped beam and Fog Lights if there is actually fog.

Thanks for every1s opinions on fog lights. Whats d best bulbs to get now?

id like white light off them

Mine are also yellowish and in combination with led headlamps they look like crap, I get recommendations to use H8 osram cool blue. But also worried about performanse in dense fog.

I changed mine to a set which I got off ebay. Crisp white led's which do project a powerful beam along the ground.

I've my foglights set as DRL's and they do get you seen that bit better. They've been used at night when it has been foggy (where I work attracts fog) and it does cut. Bright enough to enough you're seen and you can be seen clearly, but the beam pattern doesn't cause you to be blinded by a reflection back.

I started another thread the other day about putting led fog lights in the front of mine. Ive got the led headlights and thinking about changing the front fogs to led. After reading the thread is it possible to up grade to a different colour instead of the standard tungsten bulbs?

Yeah, you can replace them with halogen bulbs with a different bulb colour temperature.

Just have to match the ones you want on a chart and go with those.

Cheers tunedude

For LED fog lamps, you can use Philips ultinon H8, it's white light.

I've been looking into this and  from what I can gather -

Temperature colour 4200k is similar to and a good compliment for the Xenon headlights.

H8 are generally 35W

H11 are 55W

H16 are 19W

vRS fog light bulb is H16 19W

There is a slight mounting plate difference between H8, H11 & H16.

Note - there is also an H16 5202 bulb which is not the same fitting as the H8/H11/H16 family and will not fit.

I know folk have fitted the H11 bulbs to vRSs. I'm not sure how the wiring would cope long term with 55W bulbs as opposed to 19W

Maybe H8 would be a good compromise? Brighter bulb but not too much of a wattage increase!

19W / 12V = 1.58A  55W / 12V = 4.58A

So nearly 3 times the Amps going through the same size wires!

35W / 12V = 2.9A

Under twice the Amps load on the wires.

Right, I’ve got some 4200k replacement bulbs, I’ve taken the lower grille off, I can take the connector off and turn the bulb ever so slightly but not enough to take the bulb out.
I've seen talk of a clip of some sorts. Is there a clip? Or are the bulbs just stiff to turn?

Hmmm it appears I have 2 logins.
