Random issues with drivers lock

Featured Replies

Hi everyone.

I know this shows as my first post but it appears my account was deleted some time ago. Had been a member for 8 years now .

Anyhow.

My wifes Fabia mk2 1.6 diesel Monte Carlo has been developing a fault over the past couple of weeks

When I lock the car with remote, all the doors lock but then the drivers door unlocks immediately after. It was intermittent at first but happens every time

Also, when i finish a journey in the car, sometimes the drivers door will not open when I want to get out. I pull the handle and nothing. You don't feel the lock moving or anything. I push the lock/unlock button o  the centre co sole and then the door unlocks and I can pull the handle to get out. This is intermittent and happens every 5th time or so.

At the moment I am locking the car using the key and this works every so often as well. Sometimes it will lock all the door and sometimes just the 3 doors and not the drivers door. I try again and it works usually but have had it fail on 2nd and 3rd attempts before.

Has anyone experienced this or know of a cause/solution?

Thanks

Al

You either have broken wires in the door loom between the door and "A" pillar int he bellows, or...........

you need a lock assy, the "electrical" part is failing, hence its intermittent, locking with the key is the "mechanical" linkage, so will always work.

The wires in my door jam were snapped caused similar issues

Thank you for the replies. I had checked the door wires but got as far as the rubber sleve which looked in mint condition so didn't think it would be a problem.

Taking your advice I pulled it back and noticed the brown wire was cut. Looked like a clean cut as well. Not sure what caused it however I have repaired it with solder and heat shrink.

Problem solved.

Thank you for your help.

These wires are nearly always the elephant in the room. They seem to cause intermittent, complete failure of central locking, windows, mirrors, etc with alarming frequency so should ALWAYS be the first port of call. I might even suggest they cause more issues then fuses to these particular circuits!
