The MY Vauxhall App is telling you in real time what the battery is taking in and what the battery state of charge is.   As does the car if you turn on and open the driver's door.    Enough apps on phone, 2 phones in car, chrome book and iPad. Charging become a constant.  Hardly time available checking in at chargers, reporting faults. Checking out, and checking available chargers on route.  All a PITA actually.  Once you do the same routing and charging it all gets dead easy.  Just a pity others do not report faulty chargers or log in.

People can be really selfish on not reporting outages, we know that from the 1600 chargers in the Source London stable and I expect we are both glad and sad to pull out of the charging network business and shot term ,  6 minute interval care leasing we had with our 5,000 cars in Paris but I expect we are glad to be getting those patent payments from Mercedes for our solid state Lithium tech as well as supercapacitors.  I think it is only the 6 and 12m buses we are involved in now in car transport but we still do plenty in battery banks I gather especially for remote places ie African interior etc.

 

Good luck to Total, I think have a set of engineers going around fixing, checking upgrading these chargers is needed.  Perhaps a reward system ie one gets credits, say 10 kWh, for being the first to report and a free kWh for the first ten others or something similar ?

This is just for you. 

Normally 40 minutes on the 50 kWh CCS will get me to 98% if i need to get 150 miles to the next charger.

 

Arrived showing 99 miles, messed about, get it started just on the AC, and then showing 93 miles range.

 

Trucked up to the single rapid, it was unoccupied.

Green lights on and looks good to charge.  Authorise card, chose CCS, blue lights go on,

starts charging, you get in car ready to log in, and it cuts out,

try try and try again and if lucky CPS answer as today and they confirm out of order.  but the red light is just on because my car tripped it, they say they will report it to maintenance.

If you need a charge and the AC works it is at 17 miles per hour.  

This is common when there is a charger available, also common is the red light out on all.  and ring CPS Scotland for 40 minutes without answer.

 

Luckily today 4 rapids are 1 mile away.

Still a while to go to get this right.

 

I thought we would get some businesses, mcdonalds, tescos, starbucks doing something of a combined deal ie ten, fifeteen or twenty minute charge, with a coffee and chargers that work reliably, yet to come.

 

There is. 

Just not Rapid Charging in Scotland yet. 

I will start using a couple of LIDL locations and pay, and keep using InstaVolt if needs must.

 

I will only use 23 pence kWH Angus Chargers if desperate and the same with Highland Region and 30 pence a kWh.

Those places charging £1.60 just to plug in and that have faulty chargers are taking the pith.

 

Next week i have a limited time available to do 180 miles out and the same home driving at the speed limit and according to the weather condition, so will take a petrol car.

Not spending the 2-3 hours it might take for charging.

What is wrong with the good old Joule, kilojoule, MegaJoule, GigaJoule etc  ?

I think a GID is about tenth of a kWh but then 293 then sounds like a lot ie more than a 64 kWh LEAF would hold even at 104.3% of nominal.

How hot the battery is when you start charging and the sun hitting a charger unit, and ambient temp makes such a difference.

 

I only had this range show back early on and never ever lately, but i have had over 200 miles from around 40 kWh of charge.

That takes a good few miles of low downhills where regening and getting high on steeper slopes quickly. 

Average speed maybe 50 mph.

More like 66kWh which is over 260 miles. ;)

 

Jokes aside, you've raised a very valid point that I've forgotten.

 

 

Reality is what can be the problem. 

   The Governments need to be assisting manufacturers build and sell more affordable EV's, and not encourage those that are building heavier and heavier Hyper EV's that in many cases are just lifestyle vehicles

This van has sat 5 days and night at a charger. Nothing near its record of 5 weeks.

Charging for the 2nd time today after 200 miles, IST time was for 1 hour and took battery to 99%, now will be to 90% and will be an hour and then I might need 40 mins charge in 100 miles to get home with some range free.  Cost is zero £ as south of Perth and luckily chargers were available and charge time quick because of scorchio weather.  Saved on 8 or 9 gallons of petrol or 15 if I took my Shogun. 

Real world as in Forfar & roonandaboot (Scotland) the area today with ambient temp showing from 20-23*oC.

 

I have bopped about today and done 40 miles so far.  (Going away tomorrow and will need a couple of charges during the day.)

First attempt to charge at my nearest single charger and it is as has been for more than 10 days, starts and then cuts out.

The AC works.  Called CPS as i have several times in the past 10 days.  They will raise a ticket, get maintenance, somehow they have no record of my reports or others.

 

So an hour ago i was passing Forfars new Hub with 4 rapids.  7 vehicles were on them and charging DC or AC. 

None had logged in to ZapMap or Plugshare.

 

So 100 yards up to the original Rapid at Angus house.Not cooked by the sun, only 1 rapid and only me on it.

Plugged into the 50 kWH charger for 30 minutes.

I had 66% battery and 62 miles range showing on arrival and having plugged in and charger starting. 

Left the drivers seat to unplug with 86% battery and 87 miles range showing on the car. 

That is what you get with Free Charging, crap chargers. 

*The Charger shows 87% Battery though, time from drivers seat to charger.*

 

It is what you might get with PSA / Stellantis vehicles with 50kWh batteries / 45 kWH usable and 50 kWh Chargers.

 

EDIT.

Need to see what the car shows when i get back to it. 

 

Phone App 4 miles later from coming off the charger is showing 85% Battery & 86 mile range. 

It might after a good few miles at under 50 mpg get to showing 100 miles range, then again it might not.

PS. ^^^^^ 

Yesterday was much cooler, 15*oC during the day, and cooler night.

What an improved miles per kWh in the mid teens compared to over 20*oC.

AC was still on and set at 15*0C as the day before.   The car just seems happiest when the ambient temp is lower, just not that much below 10*oC.

TESCO 7kWh charging FREE.   I thought I might give it a try.    Pulled up, read the instructions and was ready to download an APP.    Plugged in and it started charging without doing anything.   9.40 am and I had 74% / 99 miles showing.  Charging at 21 mph.     If I want to charge more than 15 minutes I need to go onto the APP.   I will do that.      Edit .   I had the Pod Point App.   Opened it. Location came right up.  Confirmed I was charging.   All so easy.  3% added in 10 minutes.   Temp is 23°C. Scorchio.   Larry.

11% added in 50 minutes. 13% in 60.    Other local TESCO have 22kWh chargers FREE and 50kWh for 28 pence kWh.     LIDL also with 7,22 and 50 kWh

chargers.  

 

Regened more in 4 miles of driving.

Tesco, Aldi and Asda are the 'free' chargers I have used. The local Aldi have 22kW free charge posts, no app required - literally just turn up and plug in.

Tesco are widespread but I find the ones in urban areas are often busy with all points taken. In fact my first need for a rapid charge was in Congleton and tried the Tesco rapid there, but previous user managed to knock it out faffing about trying to disconnect (also a new EV driver). The 4 7kW and 2 22kW posts were all taken. Luckily there was an Osprey charger nearby to use, just a bit more expensive.

Asda was useful but run by BP Pulse and I needed to add £5 credit to the app to initiate a charge. So 'free' but I have £5 floating about in BP Pulse's bank account.

These are excellent facilities and have probably given me 500+ free miles in the time I've had the car. You do have to wary of parking limits on the car parks and not all locations have the same restrictions e.g. no time limit at my local Aldi but the next one over has a strictly enforced 2 hour limit with £70 penalty charge.

I can't help but think the current charging regimes are akin to the old Blockbuster type setup regarding membership.

Surely a better idea (for the customer) would be one clearly marked price for each speed of charger and maybe a PetrolPrices style app collating multiple sites?

Prices are absolutely crazy with many of the providers. 

69 pence a kWh on a 350 kWh charger for someone paying with just money and no special price at an Ionity charger.

 

I meet people charging at free chargers in Scotland that have no idea they are free and they have no idea what they are charged at other chargers they flash their card at.

 

I have never had any money debited yet from charging i did at chargers before the change over of Administration.

My account showed i am due them money.

 

Today i have been checking tariffs for home utilities when i can change supplier in January and am totally shocked at the kWh price showing for home electric of not the off peak cost or EV charging.

 

Some are higher than the cost of a kWh at a public charger.

My home tariff this week is 25p. Fingers crossed the wind starts to blow and the Russians start sending more gas.

All week there have been people bumping their gums about the Cambo Oil Field & just say no, then about more Wind farms on the Northern Isles and the loss of peat and about a new Deep Coal Mine in England and how not needed.

Worried about how that will look at COP26.

(While the UK imports Oil & Gas then it is mental to think about not having Oil & Gas that can come from British waters, but now some are saying save that for the future generations when the value is ten times what it is now, it is safe where it is under the sea.)

 

Not once did i hear any of them mention that the Gas price was so high that EDF had a Coal Fired Power Station fired up this week in England.
