High fuel consumption Fabia 1.2

Featured Replies

Hey guys, so I was wondering what the average fuel consumption is on a Mk1 1.2L Skoda Fabia 3 cylinder 40Kw, I drive with a very very light foot, and it seems to me the car is just chugging away, we've had the car go under a very pricey service with having one of the cylinders being replaced due to failure, so the engine is theoretically in brand new shape, we've changed spark plug and everything. And after looking through the paperwork the combined fuel consumption is 7L, is that too much? Thank you.

Yes, that's too much, try swapping out the ECT sensor first.

Do you drive mainly short distances?

I drive 140km daily, and it just drinks too much petrol even on long drives.

Does the coolant temperature gauge show 90° within about 3 or 4 km from cold and stay there?

Very good question, right now during winter when it's like -10C outside it takes a while longer to get there, but yeah approx 3 or 4km and its there, when I turn on the heat to defrost the windshield it goes does down rapidly.

Thermostat may be stuck partly open.
