MPH on Maxidot

Featured Replies

As above, anyway I can get the Maxidot on a 2011 Superb Elegance to display the speed?

Probably just needs the country changing using vcds or similar 🙂

Sorry, I probably didn't make it clear. There is no option to display speed at all at the moment 😞

It should be there all the time, below the MFD display. It'll default to km/h on UK cars.

If you go into settings and check 'Alt. speed dist' it should permanently show the speed in km/h where the temperature normally is.

On the Superb both temperature and speed are permanently displayed.

Ha, it's so small I didn't even notice. Is there anyway to have that in MPH? And bigger like other VAG cars?

Yes. As I said earlier it "Probably just needs the country changing using vcds or similar". ;)

Why? You've already got the speedometer in mph.

I prefer reading a digital display than the analogue speedo.

Yep, I’ll see if the local VCDS guy on here Dan help. Thank you.

The country is Australia, Km/h will disappear from the display but as it can be displayed when needed it's not a problem.  The car just has the ability to display Km/h

You can change to Australia or World.

I would be interested to know if you can get the digital readout for an Irish car to display the speed in Km/h. I like the digital speed display and wanted to change it for trip to continental Europe, but could not get it. I guess when the car is set to RHD it will give MpH.

I don't know much about Irish cars but I would expect it should be possible although you might need to tweak the cluster EEPROM rather than just changing the coding.

Looks like it can be changed to Australia with Carista. Will changing it affect anything else, liek the lights or anything?

No. You still have to change to "tourist lights" for RH traffic.

It might change the odo to km rather than miles plus a few other units. You should be able to go in to the settings in the maxidot and change them all back to UK units easily enough which I think reverts the odo to miles :)

I only put the comment in because chimaera replied with an Irish location.

Are Irish cars in general sold with MpH speedometres and just a tiny km/h line for the second speed?

My brother in law in Germany was driving a Golf with essentially the same dashboard and he could then change his Maxidot to large Km/h. I tried to change my location to Germany via VCDS but never got the large Km/h display. The new MIB cars can all display and change between large MPH and Km/h through the centre display - I think.

This is possible with a EEPROM tweak on the MK2 Superb and similar iirc :)

No, all cars sold new here since 2005 have had to have a metric speedometer. My cars is in imperial units because it's a UK import. I'm planning to swap it over at some point when I have a bit of time to look at it.

Hello langers2k,

I have a VCP lead and have "accidentally" gone into the Engineer Mode and read EEPROMS but have not done any EEPROM coding.

Do you have a reliable coding so that I can switch between large MPH and Km/h displays on the Maxidot?

Edited by 26DIPP

Drifting off-topic perhaps, but can VCP read/write the entire instrument cluster EEPROM?

I didn't think VCP could do anything with the cluster EEPROM. If you can get a full EEPROM dump I can put it through VDOeditor and see what it can do.
