Unfortunately it is a design flaw, the method the AA use is to bend the handle slightly. Great in an emergency, but not advisable if it isn't.

 

For anyone who has had the bonnet release lever fail, or the cable snap, will know how much of a nightmare it then becomes to lift the bonnet. Not being able to open the bonnet removes any possibility of accessing the battery.


Bending the handle in the way the AA does will weaken it and possibly induce a premature failure, probably whilst on the hard shoulder, at night, in the rain, with your family in the car.

 

Skoda cut the same corner when designing the MkIII Octavia, they decided not to swap the bonnet release lever over to the same side as the steering wheel during its development.

 

For some strange reason they did on the Kodiaq.

I think it's been mooted that a clued up breakdown person could feed enough current through the cigarette lighter to provide enough current to operate the door locks though I think someone else said this might do something nasty to the circuitry.

going into work one in five days has allowed me to sit on the A2 (normally wouldn’t go near it pre lockdown in the mornings) and put the ACC on and let it pull itself into work! Been getting great MPG from the 1.0tsi probably never to be seen again after lockdown! 
 

as long as I keep it in the 2,000 RPM rev range round town it’s got a little step up in power from the turbo. Only thing that is a little annoying is having to drop into 1st gear on roundabouts otherwise it dies or you won’t have enough power to get away quick enough below 2,000 RPM. Can’t hear the engine really at all. can’t wait to go for a long cruise after lockdown.

Fantastic MPG - Short journey or not, I love a challenge - Consider it accepted. I eeked 56 Mpg out of a C180CGI auto a few years back between Slough and Newbury.

 

I've got 250 miles on mine now, and im discovering the '"off turbo" feature when pulling away from a give way junction where I've rolled up in 2nd. I need to adapt myself as its my first manual car for 9 years and not a 1.8 or 2.1 Turbo.

 

I'll get used to it.

If only that torque came in at 1500 RPM, 2k is just a little to high for low revers like me, I want to be changing gear at 2k.

Surrey S C, where did you read that about feeding current through cigarette lighter damaging circuitry, please?  I hope it's not true, but would like to follow that up.   Following comments from several people here .... 

17 April (Mark-Surrey's entry) onwards, I gave my battery a booster charge a week ago with a CTEK charger using the cigarette lighter socket adaptor, seemingly successfully and quite a few others have done this too.  I haven't noticed any electrical problems so far, on a few short drives to the allottment.

Did the same with mine, I have the Ctek C5 stop/start  charger and the cigarette lighter adapter, works fine and no problems (as yet)!

I think I read it here , but reading the thread through it seems the conclusion was no harm would be done and as everyone seems to be doing it without issue guess not.  As beekeepers (classed as livestock) we have a legitimate reason to travel so we keep the battery charged by going to see the bees.

Gutted, my Karoq should have got here end of March but am still waiting

Managed 39.2 miles in 2 months, and that includes collecting it. I'm finding my new diesel very economical, not had to visit a pump in 8 weeks! I filled the petrol one every fortnight. 🤣🤣
