Issue - red warning light (coolant) and audible beeps from cold start BUT parked on steep hill facing nose down the hill. 

 

Coolant level ok. Coolant temp not going over operating temp 90 C.

 

Possible diagnosis - sensor contacts in expansion tank corrode?

 

I have lent my bro my car due to him and wife being key workers while I fix his car and done diagnosis over phone. I don't want him seizing my engine etc. The level may have gone below the level sensor contacts in expansion tank whilst on the hill.

 

The alarm went off on previous journey but light turned off once at bottom of hill. 

 

Never come on before. Are they particularly sensitive or age related issue?

 

I notice GSF sell a new expansion tank for around a tenner.  Are the sensor contacts built in? Plug and play?

In a separate issue. Since a metal impeller water pump fitted with last timing belt kit the temp of engine coolant never went over 90C .

It is due a timing belt kit change. Should I use plastic impeller water pump or look for metal one again? Any recommended brands? Dayco kit was fitted last time around.

Yes the sensor contacts are built in, yes it's only a tenner, yes just change it.

It really doesn't matter about the water pump, plastic impeller quality issues went away about ten years ago.

The tensioner pulley in the Dayco kit is crap if want something else to worry about, I'd fit genuine.

That GSF expansion tank will require you to buy a new bespoke expansion tank cap from GSF.

 

This is not at all clear on GSF s web page.

 

I checked with a 2nd cap i had from the same Fabia and the hole for cap in the tank is smaller than the 2 caps I tried. Evertyhing else is identical. Luckily, I tried the cap before installing.

 

Feel ripped off.

 

GSF can't car match parts.

Branch manager back in 2014 to 2016 at Doncaster got wrong brakes discs, wrong spec engine oil, wrong timing belt tool. So, I stopped using them until now. Mistake....
