Plugs

Featured Replies

Just done an oil, oil filter, cabin filter and air filter change but cant find the recommended spark plug for my Fabia mk3 1.2 Tsi CJZC and, what is the ''spark position'' never heard of it before, is it crucial.....

Try Opieoils.co.uk

They have a spark plug finder tool.

Thanks xman

Forgot to mention you can get up to 10% off if you use "Brisk" discount code, they often run other discount codes shown on their home page which might offer more.

Have used Opieoils before for bike oils plus service parts....the plugs they offer for the fabia some have a different thread length which isnt good, with bikes and the other cars Ive had you get a brand name + a grade no problem....usually this site gives you more information than you need.... so i reckon its been done to death but thats what forums are for, not everyone has the information to hand, but thanks anyway.

I think the Bosch double platinum plug below is the OE plug for 1.2tsi and 1.4tsi Ea211 cambelt engine

Cheapest I can find for these is here, which also has the list of  VAG OE numbers

Ebay link to parts in motion

Spark position is the name given by engine developers to the spark path geometry , the extent to which the spark path extends into the combustion chamber.

While opieoils quote PZKER7A8EGS, that is what is probably fitted but they have been revised to now be PZKER7BEGS which is still stock code 94968 for NGK.

I'm sure that I bought might from "sparkplugsuk" or some place that sounds like that as they only few brands and cover the complete range - wrong I bought them from "uktrader77" and they were actually VW Group packaged £30 delivered February 2019, if that helps.

Edit:- prices seem to have been yanked up a lot since I bought mine!

Thanks for all your answers, it does help.

The OE number I have come across most is 04E 905 601 (B).

Not after cheap but good and reliable, have seen pictures of NGK burnt electrode.

@socks Have you seen pictures of any NGK burnt electrodes from plugs from a Euro 6 1.2 TSI,

or were these one plug out of 4 from a Euro 5 1.4 TSI 132kW Twincharger engine?

Dont know where they are from but the pics where in relation to Skoda.

@socks  If you look on google images you will see the majority will be from Briskoda and probably mainly posted by me.

Nothing to do with 1.2 TSI plugs.

I've had good experience on two 1.2tsi EA111 (camchain) engines of NGK (They were Factory fit, dealer fit and DIY). Taken to 85,000 miles in both cases before changing, but better if had changed at 60,000 miles as Cylinder 1 and 3 in all cases had more significantly more wear than the other two and lost the welded platinum disc on the ground electrode. Tips (iridium alloy) were all fine.

IMO the advantage that the Bosch design of platinum/iridium types have is the ground electrode precious metal bit is inlaid into the ground electrode rather than just welded on top, so should avoid being wiped away.

Have just changed to Bosch double iridium in the Octavia at 140,000 miles. Should last the life of the car.

The other Fabia 1.2 tsi got written off at 120,000 miles by a dozy taxi driver.

Here's some pics 85,000 miles 1.2tsi Ea111 cylinder 1 and 3 worn, 2 and 4 very good. I suspect due to ignition system employed in EA111 (waste spark ignition type) which electrically pair 1 to 4, and 3 to 2 but with opposite spark polarities.  Also bear in mind because of this, EA111 ignition spark plugs fire every rotation of the crank, on both compression and exhaust strokes. Twice as often as EA211 which has individual coil packs.

Its on the packet.

This 1.2tsi plug has a crush washer. So the correct procedure for this new plug is

Cold engine

Clean seat on head

Spin in until plug washer mates with seat.

Turn additional 90 deg to crush washer.

Then 28Nm.

Or if fitting a previously fitted plug, skip the 90 deg bit and just 28Nm

Check on spark plug packet for correct instructions and values.

@xman My interpretation of the instructions are that the torque setting is 28Nm or 90 deg on a new plug from finger tight. No torque wrench necessary for anybody without.

I didnt say the pictures were related to 1.2TSi plugs.....but it was the pictures that prompted me to ask about suitable plugs for the 1.2 TSi  EA211.

Appreciate all the information and probably settle for Bosch Platinum/Iridium and see if I can squeeze a grade from somewhere.

I'm on 34500 miles, 4yrs.

Possibly, either method should be fine.

Just remember or be aware that the 1.2TSI EA211 engine's plugs have a thick flat and so "solid" sealing washer, so they just get torqued up as the washer does not get crushed when first fitted.
