Amundsen MIB1 Map Update 2020-2021

You're having issues trying to get navigation working on a retrofitted Amundsen.

The way this works on a stock system is the headunit checks the SD card CID is valid. The CID is basically like a serial number that's programmed into the SD card which is designed to be one time programmable and unchangeable.

This means you have three choices to get nav working (as far as I'm aware), you can either:

- use a genuine Skoda/VW SD card

- use a non-genuine Skoda/VW card with the CID changed to match a genuine card (only works on very specific SD cards!)

- hack the headunit to accept all SD card CID's

I believe you're trying to use a non Skoda/VW SD card? This won't work unless you either change the CID or hack the headunit...

The second question is how did you get component protection removed?

If a dealer did it, there is a good chance navigation won't work as a dealer can only activate features listed against your VIN which won't include navigation. Obviously if this is a hacked headunit then this shouldn't be an issue.

Yes I'm trying to use a non genuine Skoda SD card to match a genuine card. So the question is it possible to create non-genuine Skoda SD card by myself or I have to buy it on Alli or eBuy? Also as addition I have to install Antenna in case the card works.

Please read my previous replies!

The only difference between a 'genuine' and 'non-genuine' SD card is the CID.

- If you have a SD card that allows you to change the CID, then do that

- If not, buy a genuine card with the correct CID

So first step will be to buy SAMSUNG EVO PLUS 32gb SD card, but I'm not sure how to change CID and make it to be  correct. Instruction in drive2.ru is little chaotic as writer wrote.

Given your posts so far, I'd suggest you just grab a genuine card, they aren't expensive.

Changing the CID is easy if you have the right knowledge, tools and SD. At least when I last did it, you needed:

- a basic knowledge of linux and it's command line

- a laptop with a 'real' SD card reader (not internal or external USB) it should show as /dev/mmcblkX (not /dev/sdX)

- a suitable Samsung SD card (I believe they fixed the 'bug' that allowed CID changes in late 2017...)

I believe you can also do it via an Android app called "SD Insight" but I've never used it and will only support certain phones.

Couple of links that might help:

- Thread with some suggested CID's for a MIB1 headunit: https://cartechnology.co.uk/showthread.php?tid=33768

- Youtube video of someone changing the CID: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbWXsSaAb2M

Good luck.

Yes, I agree with you. The the easiest way is to buy genuine card. Thanks :)

Ihave the Columbus navigation & downloaded the maps from the OP link to the vw portal after the skoda portal kept failing, i extracted the files with 7zip to a 64gb sd card which i formatted to fat32 using the Raspbery Pi tool, i put the card into slot on the unit ion the glove box, but it searches the card, then comes back with an error message saying nothing found or words to that effect, iam i doing something wrong?

i found it easier to update the older slow Amundsen unit which had it's own sd card

I've tried the menu button thing below, but i get a totally different screen, which looks like the car's service menu for software

I've got alternate instructions on how to update via SD card. I've just tried it and I got to #5 where it says the update takes 60 minutes, but unlike the normal update you need to leave it going with the car not running. I'll be updating myself tomorrow.

1. Press and Hold Menu Button for approx. 10 sec until you will see:
Green Menu / Test & Erprobung / SWDL / Picture Viewer ....... please select Green Menu.

2. In the Green Menu select rcc >> swdl >> tick "User Defined SDWL"

3. From the Green Menu Press and Hold again Menu Button for approx.10 sec until you will see: "Green Menu / Test & Erprobung / SWDL / Picture Viewer ......." please select SWDL . and tick "Software Download Manual Download" and press Start Download.

4. Insert SD Card with latest Maps then press Update select "SD card" and press "MIB2 navigation database"

5. Press "Select all" and then press "Start"

Is it a genuine Skoda SD card, the Amundsen won't find the maps on any other SD card? It doesn't matter which SD card slot you use, but a USB stick won't work either.

Have you unzipped the downloaded file and placed all the contents (only) on the SD card?

I think it's already been mentioned that an Amundsen can ONLY read maps from a genuine Skoda SD card...

I bought genuine Skoda SD card with maps and I set up GPS navigation. Now I have situation that navigation work from time to time. I'm still getting a message on screen "navigation: function is not supported", but from time to time navigation works perfectly. What I have to do now?

The message isn't saying anything about the maps not being found so I don't believe the SD card is the problem, the message seems to suggest that the unit is thinking that navigation isn't enabled which to me suggest an intermittent problem in the glovebox unit itself.

Probably you have right. So I have to find someone who knows deep coding.

Can anyone confirm there is no new map updates anymore for MIB1 units since P94 ECE 2020/2021 version?

I've looked every week on both the Skoda and VW update sites - and can confirm that there is no update since P94.

But Audi are quoting a part number for an updated map suitable for the MIB1 Amundsen - but it's chargeable and expensive.

Maybe it's a 5 year limit for VW & Skoda but not for Audi?

I'm in a conversation with Skoda support. I can't believe that there won't be any further updates for my 2014 Octavia. Will let you know what I can achieve.

I won't be holding my breath - there are no map updates for the equivalent infotainment systems in VW cars either so it looks like a VAG decision not a Skoda decision.

I can't believe that they simply let it go. If my car turns to 6, should I switch to another device if I want to see fresh maps? It's a shame!

Smartphone + Waze are tons better than any built in Navigation system

A straight answer: "Unfortunately, new map updates will no longer be released for MIB1. The latest are available on the update portal."
Even not available for extra fee.
Simply I can't believe it. 2021. Earth. Human. Buy a new one, while there's a climatic hysteria which makes sense.

Sure, better. But a built-in is more elegant and no extra device needed around the driver.

If staying OEM is important then several people have updated to a MIB2 Amundsen or Columbus, @pab567is the best person to advise on details and cost.

Hi all

Just purchased a 2014 Octavia saloon.

I have an MIB1 Amundsen which was way way out of date (without checking about 8 years).

I downloaded the latest version from the Skoda site.

Extracted the files to a directory on my laptop

Backed up the original version

Formatted the OEM Skoda Maps SD card as FAT32

Copied the new version from my laptop on to the SD card

Back in slot 1

I now have Maps for 2020/21

Job done !
