The required tools to repair my Fabia Mk1

Featured Replies

Hello guys it's pleasure to be among you Skodians!!, I'm asking about the required tools with their sizes to repair my Fabia Mk1 2002 8v.

Thank you....

A set of combination spanners size 8 - 19mm will cover most of the bases, much more useful than a socket set for occasional use, even better if they're the ratcheting type. You'll also need Torx bits and regular screwdriver bits which you can buy in a set. A brake caliper windback tool if you're going to replace brake pads yourself and a pair of axle stands to rest the car on once you've jacked it up using the standard jack. Additional tools as required.

Thank you for all these valuables information.

I started with jack, jack stands, 1/2" breaker bar, 1/2" socket set and ratchet. I now have quite an arsenal.

Here is an example

The rear brake caliper carrier bolts have a 8mm allen key fitting.1/2" 8mm male hex socket worked a treat.  Even if most sets had a 8mm size you would not get the torque to unseize it - The biggest problem when maintaining / fixing cars (seized bolts). Use oil, heat coils, big breaker bars 3/4". Rounded nuts - there are sockets to deal with them.

Front shock absorbers top nut needs a 'go through' socket set. Halfords sell a decent set when half price.

Brake nipples - use a flared spanner to reduce rounding.

What work you planning on doing?

The front brake caliper bolts require a 7mm allen key which is an unusual size and will not be available in most common allen key sets, This is generally listed as a specialised too which is longer than standard allen keys.

A 21mm spark plug socket works brilliantly for the strut damper top nut because you can use a spanner on the flats of the socket and insert an allen key down the middle to hold the rod.

I filed out the 1/2" square hole on mine to fit a long allen bit  through the socket. Either that or some mole grops on the allen key works great

if you plan on doing any electrical stuff get a electrical clip removal tool

If you want to do work inside the car a cheap multiset of trim removal tools is really handy

would reccomend multispline bits too

balljoint splitter
