Low speed crushing missfire

Featured Replies

Hi there at a loss here, I have a 2001 fabia estate 1.4 Mpi that I have just replaced the egr valve on to resolve an egr too much flow alarm, the car is ticking over fine at idle and is fine under load at any speed but when trying to cruse at 30 - 40. Mph in 4th or 5th gear the engine missfire. I get no warning lights. I didn't see any issues before changing the valve. A yo e got any suggestions?

Sorry title should be cruseing not crushing, I hate auto correct

Petrol engine?

Misfire under part throttle lean mixture conditions is usually ignition related, richer mixtures are easier to ignite, its why when mechanics take a car on a test drive they report no misfire, they dont drive gently like the owner does.

Star with spark plugs and then coil packs, others will advise better than me as the last petrol engine I had was 1995 technology.

And if an MPE is a diesel then my apologies!

I think this must be a 16-valve AUB code petrol engine, assuming the 100kW in profile is meant to be 100bhp. The 1.4s with MPI on the back of them don't have an EGR valve if I remember right.

Did you adapt the engine ECU to the new EGR valve after fitting?

May be worth a try if you didn't, but I think excessive EGR flow is a common fault on these and not often really the valve at fault.

I have just tried unplugging the egr valve and although I have an engine light (obvs) the missfire has gone.

I will have a search for adapting egr on Google.

Thanks for the response. And yes should have been 100bhp
