Ok Guys I done an Auto Scan... see below, it was all running fine before I had the mobile Mechanic change all the shocks. 

 

Thing is what to do next?.  I do have it booked into an engine management specialist on Monday I have had the ECU checked and told thats running ok but it could be an intermittent fault

oh that guy explained to me I had fitted coilovers not normal shocks and there more for rallying not sure it that would cause loads of faults to show up?  have bought some normal shocks to go on after I get it started and will sell the other ones

Try to get a photo of the point on the rad fan where the wiring goes in too, next time you're out with it.

Suspension won't be anything to do with this, unless some wiring was somehow damaged during fitting.

I cant see where the wiring to the rad goes Wino but I did clear all faults and rescan the car and this is the 2nd time which was nowhere near as long but still cant seem to get into 01 engine status,

done a port test and says must register would that stop it? where do I register?

I've never owned full VCDS, but I guess registering is done at Ross-tech.com?

 

Looks like communication between engine ECU and the rest of the car is the main problem at the moment then.

I would wait for Langers 2K but my guess is canbus gateway or a physical failure of the canbus wiring as it appears that there are not comms with any of the modules.

 

Lots of low voltage warnings also so it would be worth cleaning and deoxidising all the battery terminals and the big strip fuse terminals.

 

Does the central locking, electric wndows etc work normally, they all rely on canbus communications.

 

Have you had any water leaks? Water & corrosion of terminals with a partial short circuit could drop out the comms.

 

Given the absence of comms with the ECU have you properly re-engaged the connector and pulled the latch lever fully home?

 

Maybe while you are waiting open the bellows on the drivers door to check there are no fractured wires shorting, ditto the other doors but the drivers gets the most use & usually fails first.

Check cabin fuse No.1; 10 amp. It's an ignition 12V feed to the engine ECU.  I can imagine that if that  has blown it won't talk to anything.

I checked the No 1 10amp fuse and that is ok, funny though as when I turn the ignition on the rad fan goes on after a few secs, but when I took the No 1 10amp ECU fuse out the fan went off as it does when I take out the ECU relay in the ebox

It's quite probable that the ECU has more than 1 12v supply to it, but you need the wiring diagram ( which Wino may have access to ) to see.

 

Also might be worth removing the battery lead for a couple of minutes, just in case something in the ECU has got in a tizzy & needs resetting.

@PipH you're right, there are three ECU pins that get a permanent 12V feed from one of the e-box fuses, a 30 amp one, fuse 13. It's straining my vision a bit to see, but it looks like it might be the lower of two just to the right of centre in the OP's photo on the previous page? Looks like it's already been changed at least once due to being a visually different style to the others.

 

@J.R. I agree that I'd be hoping @langers2k might be able to use his knowledge and experience to help here.  The engine ECU appears to have both K-line and CAN comms, so I would have thought one or the other could be talking to the VCDS diagnostics unless there was something 'global' like a power feed fail?

 

The fan behaviour may be the key to all of this, but I'm struggling to get my brain going today.

Which relay have you checked? According to the wiring diagrams on Elsawin there's two under the dash, one controls terminal 30 power which is referred to in some of your fault codes. (B4 in attachment)

Only in relation to interior lighting I think.  The terminal 30 (permanent 12V) supply to the engine ECU (and a bunch of other stuff) all comes direct from battery positive through the relay in the ebox, the only one in the photo on page 1; which is the one that's been changed I believe.  Good idea though.

Dunno, can't spot it in the parts catalogue, and none of the ECUs on ebay that I've just been looking at seem to have anything there.  What's it seal against?
