Odd Sidelight selection/combination when driving

Featured Replies

Hi

On my Karoq the front sidelights (parking lights) are on whilst driving whilst the rear lights are not. This seems very odd, I would have expected both front and rear lights to be on when driving, as is the case with most cars. The only way to get the rear lights on is to select 'Sidelights' or 'Headlights' on the main lighting switch (or of course Auto if it's dark enough).

There does not seem to be any option on the Infotainment system to control this.

Is this normal ?

All the best

That's the usual setting for DRL, I know it's possible to change the adaptation channel sin the #09 module on an Octavia III to get the rear sidelights on also but nt sure about on the Karoq.

They are your daylight driving lights, you need coding to be able to have the rear lights on with the daytime driving lights,

Hope this helps

In most of Europe (including the UK) daylight running lights (DRLs) are only required at the front of a car. These are lit as soon as you start the engine, unless you choose parking lights or headlights instead (which also light up your rear lights).

In Scandinavia, DRLs also light the rear lights, and it is possible to reprogram your lights as Scandinavian DRLs should you wish.

As above perfectly normal operation of DRL’s, not sure what cars your seeing with tail lights on during the day.

Just leave the headlight switch on auto and if it’s dark enough to require tail lights, they’ll come on.

What “widget” would you need to change to Scandinavian lights, or can it be done via a menu?

It can be changed by someone using gadget to reprogram the car's software - such as Carista, OBDeleven etc. There may well be local forum users with the expertise willing to help for a pint of beer or some such return?

Cheers.  Used to nervously wield a widget on my last cars (Disco 3s & 4s) and manages to avoid turning it into a brick, will have a look at what’s available for Skippy. 👍

The 'Scandi' DRL option is available in Carista - HTH?

It does indeed help.  Will have a look at that. 👍

On my 2019 Karoq Edition I did the "Scandinavian" DRL fix so the rear lights are on too, plus enabled the locking/unlocking confirmation beeps, change the aircon to "for hot countries" (makes it run colder - essential right now!), gauge needle sweep at startup, disabled the stop-start system, show A/C blower speed when climate control is on auto, and more. All using the simple app Carista - you get a month's free trial so tweak away to your heart's content! Carista

It’s on the to-get list.  One month free is pretty useful to do any mods & just leave them in place. 👍

The other mod I’m looking at is to see if I can retro fit drive mode selection.  Switch seems readily available but not sure whether I’d be able to enable it with a Carista.  Bit nervous about bricking a new car, MrsDSL would not be happy!  Any idea if upgrading things like that something main dealers can do officially?

Switch looks easy enough to change:D33F597A-905A-479D-8A2C-DE86CD2A2E69.thumb.jpeg.e69bcd3dd019add7f8ee38ee07a1c97e.jpeg

I think Drive Mode is a SWaP (software as a product) feature that requires a FEC (Feature Enabling Code) from Skoda and can't simply be coded using VCDS etc.?

Thought that might be the case.  😕
