horrible damp2 degree cold this morning at 635am.

woke at 440, back to sleep.. 515am..spud jr woke..

so a bottle and a resettle then geared up and headed out.

so quiet and peaceful, if the cloud had broken for the nearly full moon and a drier crispy cold it would have been lovely.

4th 10k this week, first of the new year, only 6hrs 8mins left to log for supersapiens.

i realised though on route that im shagged for the 200km jan total - theres only 17 scheduled running days in jan (mon, tue, thu, fri) which will leave me 30k short! so im going to have to get tactical and increase my distance a bit more, maybe pull a sneaky couple of weekend 5ks aswell.

also got my 2020 strava stats (only nov and dec as i didnt use it before that..). it adds up quickly when you total it up. dont know about prior to that, will have to check fitbit, and then add on the pre fit bit runs too to see what i did since July.

just used the segment thing on strava if i do a lap of the block we live on which has a horrible hill on it it, i can push to 11.5k. 16 of them plus today puts me at 194k.  so if i do 3 of them plus a 10k a week that 188, and 3 weekend 5ks ill clear it.

may do the 5k by bringin spud sr for a riverside path cycle..

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

so i went for an attempted 5k yesterday with spud sr on his bike.

ended up walking about half of the 4.7k we logged but carrying his bike on my shoulder so still counts.

it was a slower than normal run...

this morning was horrible.

junior woke at 2330, 0215 and then at 445am... a bottle and a settle later i wasnt going back to sleep.. it was 605am. so i geared up and left at around 625am.. it was freeeeezing cold, damp, nasty and being sleep deprived and sore legs from the cold..

anyway, i pushed hard and did...

11.5km in almost an exact one hour. the hills on the lap of our block at the end made it really disgusting.

yet another 2am wake up cry...

and then he woke up 2mins before my alarm was set! so i left for my 10k an hr later than usual.

it was more of the horrible damp cold. my legs necer warmed up, just ached the whole time.

slowed me down kind of aching.. i think they felt the extra 1.5km hilly section from yesterday a bit more than i realised. and the recent lack of sleep is starting to catch up on me too....

any way i got through it and eventually warmed up. rest day tomorrow... hoping we avoid the blizzards forecast for the end of the week... really dont fancy running in that.

postponed yesterday due to snowfall at departure time and being up half the night wIth a teething spud jr.

today would have been a beautiful and perfect run if the footpaths were reliably salted.. clear sky, crispy cold dry air. but clipping my stride to be able to reduce falling risk my right knee is now sore 🤦🏻‍♂️ after 10.5k in 58mins

and ive to go to Killarney now for the day walking worksites

spud jr messed me up again..

wake up cry at 130am; 230am & then 420am that meant i wasnt in bed again until 550am.... no way was i able to go anywhere this morning.

then i got up at 815 and when i went out to start my car for trip to the recycling centre at 930, I learned it was -5degrees. still -2.5 when i got back from there and a tesco pick up at 1045am.

may try and get a 5k in later..

  • Author

slightly better sleep... not much though.

went for run at 815am, but i went a different route for a look.

8.7k and 43mins later i was home for a wash.

Was -3 when I got up.  Is now -1.  I've looked outside (it's very pretty), but that's it from me :notme:  Mrs Gaz has gone out for a walk with a mate.  I might do a lap from here to the kitchen (and back - I'm no lightweight) as the kettle seems under occupied again.

i like my running. i like getting out and the feeling of accomplishing something.

i dislike getting up really early in the morning to do it.

i hate getting up after a broken nights sleep courtesy of what i believe is an evolutionary oversight - the growing of teeth.

anyway, i dragged my sleep deprived head out of bed and went running.

went the tow path again, but added on a bit at the start to bring it up to a 10k.

ive also noticed im getting pains in my knees since i swapped to my new asics trainers... not good, hope its just while they soften in.

I've been thrown a lifeline tonight for the Supersapiens... Unit/trailer for Igloo have broken down on way from Leeds to Rochdale so day off and weather looks OK. 👍

0035am.... up to resettle.

0355am.... up to resettle.... failed. bottle. back to bed 0510am.

0630am.... alarm.. off....

0715am.... out of bed and went running. its not good when your yawning instead of breathing for the first 2k, and the rain made it extra lovely.

8.7km of misery was enough.

i did finish the supersapiens challenge though :)

i have to read that article properly, i started into it and got distracted.

Thursday and friday were more 8.5km river side runs, after a couple of nearly decent nights of sleep.

jrs teeth seem to have settled for a couple of days, thank god.

will be out later today, spud sr wants to go for a run with me... i sense ill be doing a couple of kms with an 18kg back pack :D

  • Author

due to scheduling conflocts the spud sr run has been postponed to tomorrow morning...

how far he will he make it, how far will i be carrying him? and how moody will he be for the day after the exhaustion kicks in :D

its going to be interesting!

im impressed... he managed about 3.5km of the 5.15km we did.

Screenshot_20210117-141455_Strava.thumb.jpg.2389f95ee842cf4a4710fb0cda7e3c6b.jpg

about 1.5km he didnt manage i piggy backed him 🥵 hes only around 19kg, but jogging with that bouncing around is heavy going!

any way, he enjoyed himself, managed to do a bit of it at my regular pace, but mostly was at his pace, which was alright for a nearly 6yr old

Good for him. I am impressed. Hopefully he should sleep well tonight.

Does he want to make running with Dad a regular occurrence?

  • Author

not sure yet tbh... time will tell, though he does need the activity to burn through the energy he apparently absorbs through photosynthesis..

hopefully we will be able to rejoin a pool soon after lock down and get him back in the water too. he loves swimming, but havnt been able to go in a year! (between the arrival of his brother, mother being unwell, then the lock downs...)

..awake at 345am.. got another 20mins between then and 630am alaram... 8.6km this morning.

problems...

had to stop and walk about 300m after about 5.5km, the pain in my right knee was awful. ive had a couple of days where it niggled since i started wearing new runners about 2weeks ago, but just ran through it with no issues. asics same as old ones, but today got unbearable. its fine again now, so im thinking its impact related rather than muscle/tendon. likely the new trainers have a different support in sole and changing how my foot is landing?

i only have the 200km jan challenge left to finish, but ive another 96km to do in 12 days... i dunno will the knee survive that. forecast is misery for tonorrow so having a break. decision time then... abandon the 200km and try the bike for a while, or press on and risk damage...

i think i may be checking the tyre pressures tomorrow and greasing the cassettes..

so... its been a bad week. knee oain last tuesday on the run forced a walking section, which was depressing. weather has been crap and spud jr waking up middle of the night teething meant i just couldnt face going out, esp as i was just expecting knee pain.

so... this morning, i got out the bike at 7am and went peddling.

Screenshot_20210127-100406_Strava.thumb.jpg.4035e97d6c343cfa4896013f7f46153c.jpg

quite happy with that, i gavnt pedalled as far in 20plus years.

need to get some road tyres..
