Barbour do a nice range of green outdoor clothing and the perfect vehicle to keep the shotgun secure is surely an ex-Police ARV.:tongueout:

Lucky I don't fancy shooting. Cos I just couldn't bring myself to wear stuff like that. :D

@john999boy@Aspman

I thought it was about an invite to go to field sports / shooting and not dogging.

Different dress codes, Hats, Waistcoats / gilets, waders or brogues/ boots / gaiters and no breaches.

Different vehicles, rear hatches or drop down split tailgates.

You asked for suggestions.

How about trying the shooting for a while before spending thousands on all the gear and especially changing your vehicle, I'm sure people will give you a lift across the rough terrain initially and that will be the opportunity to view their choice of vehicle and if it suits.

How do you even know that you are going to enjoy the sport or the company?

Or is it a business networking/falling in with the boss thing?

^^^ Good idea.

Or take up golf and keep the vehicles you have, and the apre-skiing is usually local to course.

If guns / shooting are of interest get a Skoda and a Taxi licence.  Actually you will mix with some that are frequently at the golfing or driving the big 4x4's.

Shooting isn't new to me, so I know I like it.

I'm up for a change of vehicle anyway.

And this is just a lighhearted discussion and to see if anything pops up that I've not thought of.

I'm not really relying on the internet to make my mind up about anything.

It's a shame you missed out on the £540 down and £540 a month on an X3M Competition. 500bhp and straight line performance similar to an M3CP! Big standard spec too.

Still think you would like a Niva on big wheel/tyre combo (extra ground clearance never hurts). My friend used to run his up a hill in a muddy field to see how far up the slope he could get, pitting it against the local farmers Landies and RR etc. Invariable it won or came near the front of the pack. Probably he didn't care how much abuse he gave the car as not only was it really cheap, but he come from a wealthy family. Car never complained though :)

You know you really want more cars, everyone does...dont they?

Couple of car shows I watched recently just reminded me of the FIAT Panda 4X4 that Ed China built;

And Goblin Works Garage's Mercedes off road conversion for the fun factor although I doubt you have a self build in mind.

I quite like this but I'm not sure the  22" alloys and farm tracks will really mix

I see cars like that and I feel sad :(  I'm sure Sarah Connor fought them off to prevent the evil future becoming a reality

There will be a nice line in bags and boots available.

While technically the X5 is a mid-sized crossover SUV, the company has dubbed it an SAV, which stands for Sport Activity Vehicle.

Argh, kill the marketing people kill 'em all

Twice, just to be sure.

Nuke it from orbit, it's the only way to be sure...

If you’re getting a pickup you buy the best. You buy a Hilux.

Ford Wildtrak is allegedly much better to drive everyday. I've not driven a Hilux so can't compare.

Pickup is out because the pickup bed just isn't practical without a fair bit spent on accessories.

In my head the current list of things to try -

Range Rover

Disco 5

Wrangler 4dr

Toyota Landcruiser

This will vary from minute to minute.

Also looking into A6 allroad, Merc E400 All terrain but the former is overpriced and the latter rare as hens teeth.

VW Toureg was looking promising for a bit but they've  gone and removed all the off-road gear from the current line up (diff locks etc)

I have driven the old hilux the 3.0l, i just listen to my old boy who rattles on that it’s the best pickup. Heard the story about how it can pull more than any other pickup many times :D

the back also looks really unbalanced.

i can get over the off centre number plate, and boot handle, but i was behind one yesterday with a towbar and i could get rid of the feeling that the hitch and its cutout in the bumper looked like it was off centre by about 3 or 4 inches.

even though it wasnt, it just looked all sideways.

its also clearly eaten all the cgrustmas cake every year.. its massive now! must be bigger than a circa 2006 RR Sport, possibly even a Full Fat of the same zera!

Mitsubishi Shogun???   Got a mate with a LWB one that he wheels out over winter instead of his 5 series touring and he swears by it.  Solid mechanics and old school.  Plus they'll be dirt cheap shortly when Mitsubishi pull out of the UK market.

An alternative to the Shogun is the eclipse cross, which has a bit more style and can also be had in 4 wheel drive

I will say this only once and it is the correct answer to your question....and I want a go in it too please...
