Vauxhall Corsa electric 2020 Fault (maybe faults) in first 6 weeks & various over the next 3 years.

It may be similar because these cars do not have Autohold you have to manually switch the e-brake on when stopping at lights, junctions etc. Auto release.  If stopping there is a P button. And if you stop you can select P or Switch off and it goes to P automatically. and engaged the e-brake if you open the drivers door.

These light up with the Keyless entry and sometimes look like they are illuminated and sometimes not if you approach the locked car without having a key with you. Charging fine now.

Somehow the charger I was at at the hospital is a CPS next to NHS only but even when I had CPS start it remotely I got no charging from it.  Never found out the issue there. Loads of NHS e-208 and Corsa,s and others use them.    Just called and extended the lease on this for 2 years flexible but I can order a new car from the 10th May or anytime up to 10th August 2025.  Or hand back 10th August this year.

Been in looking at MINI,s just because I would like one.  But no.  Too faffy.  It will have to be the next generation if any.   So my chuckle of the day is while charging the Corsa I get a phone call from Arnold Clark. To book the car in for a MOT.  So July 1 month before the hand back.  First thing 8 pm. Simple.  Health check. Complimentary.  Well yes Motability own it.  Any mot work would be free under warranty.  Well yes and I just got it back.  So they have a Special Offer for £19, a fuel treatment.  So I asked do you think it is worth having?  It is recommended he says.  Well I think that Arnold Clark and their Electric is the way forward needs to train you people I said, read my Trust Pilot review.     So he phoned back a few minutes later.  He noticed there is a Recall on my car.   I told him I know, it was showing while they just had my car for 3 weeks with it not looked at for 2 1/2.   So what is the Recall?

'BEV Cross Carline AC Compressor'.   Well I will be blown.   Mickey Muppet roadshow.

The bigger battery now and a bit more power.

Still the shiny black plastic inside and now the little gear selector has no appeal for me.  Then likely no improvement with the suspension or brake components.

I will give one a try sometime.

Not likely to be when the one i still have is in for it's next Recall job replacing the AC compressor and getting a MOT.

I will have to put the original crap tyres back on before i hand it back and it goes to auction.    That will be another issue with the new ones, tyres to give range, not traction.

I need to watch with sound off and subtitles,  she sounds like Formula-e to me.

Getting some decent press but we need to know the price of the bigger 57 kw hour battery version with the 250 mile plus range,

If similar price to the current model for this enhanced version, now that the traction battery should be so much cheaper due to lithium prices falling it might sell OK.

@lol-lolit is a 51 kW battery usable.

4 miles per kWh x 51 is 204 miles.

5 miles per kWh x 51 is 255 miles.     So if as i get now it is 3.6 miles a kWh then 184 miles, or my motorway colder weather 3.1 miles max = 158.

I am going up north of Aberdeen this week.

Aberdeenshire Public Rapid chargers now 47 pence a kWh and most i would need to use out of order.

Tesco PodPoint is 44 pence, 49 pence or 62-69 pence a kWh for rapids.

Osprey 79 pence a kWh.

Hence not taking Corsa Electric.

Then from Wednesday local chargers are going to 41 pence a kWh, 7,11 or 50 kWh.

Prices at these journey chargers will not stay at this relatively high prices as the price of electricity falls in 5 weeks time by as much as 20% or so and competitions grows.

There are also battery devices becoming available where one be able to carry it in the boot and use it to charge at home via a three pin plug and use when one is out and about.

Do not know if the Stellantis battery is just straight forward Lithium but the move to Lithium Iron phosphate and sodium will get round the poor performance in winter's cool conditions.

I gather I get discounts of many networks so do not pay the prices mentioned above.  With Octopus the billing is even put though ones house bill.

I truly believe the future is electric and there is no alternative.  I just need to hang on to a hybrid to cover those longer journeys, decide on what to have as a long range EV, Long range Tesla is the obvious choice but something else might pop in the next year or so to fulfil the role of a long range car and with a buy price similar to ICE, less if using the EV salary sacrifice advantage and of course much lower running costs with the fortunate scenario of low cost home charging and free, maybe cheapish if work start to charge, destination/office charging.

Thanks George for highlighting many of the problems of EV operation over the last few years, I hope you find a solution to stay on the zero emissions track.

@lol-lolThe councillors are not going to be meeting and reducing the cost of EV charging again this year and the cost will not reduce next year.

Aberdeenshire really is the worst next to Highland region.

They are supposedly going to spend on more hubs and improved ones.    & Highland Region is supposedly looking at generating their own electricity.

This is all GREEN HOGFWASH.   Pure kidology.

Their Charger Maintenance / Maintenance Provider is pathetic.   'Who might that be?  SWARCO.

70 pence a kWh Rapid charging.

WTF 'Unplanned journey'.   Some people just want to get someplace north of Inverness and get away and on their way and not sit plugged in for hours.

Shame.  Market forces may force them to reconsider early.

TESLA is likely to make more money from electricity selling and reselling, what it buys and sells from its megapacks linked to charging stations that will under cut all, than TESLA will make from cars which may become a loss leader product, like ink jet printers and ink cartridges.

The car is going as good as it has ever done over the past 33 months.

It looks like a bucket of sh!te and it will be interesting to find out what it achieves at BCA when Motability punt it.

A 3rd set of discs are going to be needed fitting as an Italian tune up is not going to make them look acceptable.

At least a caliper clean up and a blast of wheel silver needed.  A set of pads and maybe even drop links again before it gets sold.

Decided to take it on a last hoorah.

So charging it at home to 100 % and heading off around the Cairngorm Snow roads North East 250 before doing some roads in the North Coast 500 area.

I doubt the discs will be any shinier when i get back, there will just be more rust dust about.

Doing it with the winter tyres fitted which are ready for the bin and when back the Michelin Primacy 4 can go back on.

I might get more range with them on now but really they are terrible tyres for doing any spirited driving with.

Taking the 3 pin charger and a push bike.

Just incase the maga priced Rapids are playing up.

I will have had the car 3 years in August and even though i have an extended lease i was handing it back as i really need the money it costs me every week.

Anyway the MOT was booked for 10th July, 8.00 am waiting appointment & then after that was arranged the Recall Action that i was told was required.

AC Compressor.

Presently i am able to charge free or cheap and since i have no car on order and am waiting to see what might be available to me from Motability from the new list in July i will wait see.  Maybe run it through the winter or until i get a new car.

Phoned the Dealership this morning to ask since the Mot will be an hour and the recall work a few hours, days or weeks can i have a Courtesy Car that day?

'No problem',

ME< Will it be a Corsa Electric or an Automatic anything?

No Automatics & no Corsa Electrics as they are off the road.

This is Arnold Clark yet again at their best.     It was a regular member of staff i was talking to, full time in the service department.

I asked if they could check how long the Recall work might take, will the part be in, have other Electric Corsa been in, etc.

Not a scooby, but booking me a Hire Car from Motability.

That appears to be my answer.  How long is a piece of string?

No idea we have no tape measure, no idea how to use one, or anyone we can ask. We are just Scotland's biggest Motor Group.

Eventually a RECALL letter has arrived from Vauxhall.

Months after the issue has been known.

The car had the Non Starting issue which was unrelated seemingly but while it was at the Vauxhall main dealer for repair they never carried out this recall action.

Car due into the dealership on 10th July for the MOT & this recall action.

ARNOLD CLARK Scotland still has no Automatic gearbox Courtesy cars so are supposedly arranging for Motability to provide a Hire car which is RAC that actually arrange it.

So back to this fiasco, and waiting to see how it pans out and if arrangements go smoothly.

So ARNOLD CLARK SCOTLAND has no EV,s available for customers with EV,s going in for work, this includes those with lease cars from MOTABILITY.

Not even ICE Automatics.

What a hopeless set up.  All the stuff on going ELECTRIC, trained staff and no doubt lots of public money goes their way in the promotion of EV,s and their Innovation Centre in Glasgow.

DSCN2979.JPG

Genius.  All about the experience.

Try before you buy, and then if your car needs to be in for repair or work you might need to walk, cycle, use public transport or get a manual courtesy car because EV is the future & the infrastructure as Arnold Clark are involved is about Sales and not After sales.

A good question might be.

Do ARNOLD CLARK have EV,s as Courtesy cars if i get an EV from you but i need a Courtesy Car anytime?

Or even a PHEV and need an Automatic.

Nice British made car.

You clearly know this car would probably have less range than your e-corsa.  What is the logic of this choice over other EVs that do have longer range than the Mini EV ?

Nice power though.  Got a lot of pickup with its 181 hp motor !

@lol-lolJust grabbing one while i can.

Changing circumstances, not needing to do so many miles, so just for local use and health issues (worried about eyesight and back.) so just as well to have a fun car.

Now Motability prices for Q3 and no advance payment, money for ordering a new car & some good condition money due handing back the Corsa. (LOL at the condition.)

No point waiting on the next generation car as i will not be able to afford it.

Really not wanting to go order a Kia Niro in poverty spec even with a big battery & range.

None of us getting any younger.

I need a car that checks I am fully alert, think they are talking about them, checks your eyes are open etc.

I sometimes need a good slurp of Red Bull type drink.  Once it may have been some amphetamines but I think one of these is somewhat illegal. Different in Scotland ?

Changed a bit.  Cruising at as near the Motorway NSL one needing to be wearing ear defenders.

With a maximum top speed of 72 mph (116 km/h), a curb weight of 1411 lbs (640 kgs), the Mini 850 has a naturally-aspirated Inline 4 cylinder engine, Petrol motor.  This engine produces a maximum power of 34 PS (34 bhp - 25 kW) at 5500 rpm and a maximum torque of 60.0 Nm (44 lb.ft) at 5500 rpm. The power is transmitted to the road by the Front wheel drive (FWD) with a 4 speed Manual gearbox.

@lol-lolI loved my Toyota iQ and it was very much like automatic Mini,s i had just better and bigger.

(Even more room for 3 in there than the modern MINI has.)

The reason i got rid was just because of how people tailgated even though in corners they could not keep up with it.

I never will understand why Toyota never did an EV version.

I presume the IQ literally had next to know space to put a battery pack.

With the Zoe one becomes acutely aware of just how much space a battery pack can take up ie with the Zoe one is perched on top of it, no seat height adjustment, a car that weight quarter of ton more than the Clio it is parked next to. Still very much pleased with the Zoe but future EV cars will have much higher power density batteries and more flexible shapes that will not compromise the seating, weight quite as much.

Interesting list of choices...   Think I'd have been tempted by the MX30 or Funky Cat just to be different.

@skomazThere is no point having a car with no dealership near.  Or a bad dealership. eg Arnold Clark / Park's Motor Group.

It was bad enough getting a car 1 mile away  from a good dealership and them giving up the brand and then ending up with Arnold Clark 20 miles away as your place to deal with.

Mazda would be hopeless and it has a battery the size of a MINI,  & terrible efficiency.

As for Funky Cat. Big battery, big range, and long trip on a transporter if it goes wrong.

@lol-lol

Toyota had the skills with a car with a 32 litre fuel tank and 2 rear seats to put a motor at the rear and a battery pack enough for a city car where the engine was,

or motor there and battery at the rear.

As it was as an ICE it has an amazing turning circle, like a Honda-e or other EV,s have now.

More room for a battery and far better underpinning / suspension than a SMART Fortwo EV had & still has.

The Farce that is Arnold Clark Service Centre and a Motability Car getting a MOT and a Recall Action and me getting a Courtesy Car or Hire car on Monday took another hour of my time today.  This has been just a ba-lls up all along.

I was told their Corsa,s were off the road, no other Automatics, leave it will them Motability will provide a car.

Since i got no Texts from the RAC who arrange that or Europe Car that provide the car i have chased up AC a few times.

All in hand, no problems i was told.

So today i get the call. Motability will not provide a car but they will get you a taxi.

I asked did you tell them it is a 20 mile journey and £50 a time and then anytime i need to use a taxi it comes 20 miles?

No she never.

Did you tell them it is not just a MOT it is the recall and it is doubtful you can do it in a day. and do you know or have you asked the workshop about the other cars getting a recall and how long it took.

No she never told Motability about a Recall, and she only has the car booked in for a MOT.

This is several times i have called, 3 times at least i spoke to her.

Past issues at the branch and pathetic customer service involved her being in discussions with management and me.

.............

I called Motability, Hire car arranged for Monday, if not at the Dealership at 8.00 AM the Taxi Account is set up and i get a run home and car delivered to my house Monday Morning.

My phone pinged during the call and that was the Taxi Company, confirmed, and then the RAC confirmed, and in an hour Europecar will call me.

The Motability Call Handler has logged a formal complaint about the Motability Approved Dealership & Customer Service.

I did tell her that i had done that with AC over the past carry on,s and really i have no idea why they are getting to continue on the scheme.

But then they are Scotland's biggest car dealership group.

PS.

Well that was simple, RAC and Europe car on the ball, calls received, car confirmed £1 fuel deposit taken.

....................

This review of the MINI 3 years ago is pretty much as i found the car to drive back a couple of years ago which was a car on the 16" 195 tyres rather than the 205/45 R 17 he has on the car.

I reckon i can get more range from the 16" wheels and narrower tyres.

MINI are good at showing the spec on the different tyres for what ever tyres you get.

RSC is Run Flats.   MINI tyres have a 'Star' symbol on them.

It is pot luck what the car will come with tyre wise.

£35,000 ish RRP now.  Not what Motability are paying that for it though.  (My option which i pay for come to £550.)

I have a set of CrossClimates in 16" which can go on.

(I also have 205/45 !7 all season tyres which really are not 'Simple Clever' when roads are bad and alloy rims vulnerable.)

Winner winner chicken dinner.  Or sitting in a KFC chicken diner instead of crisps while charging the Corsa.

I have 500 miles to do this weekend before Monday and the car getting dropped off at AC.

Car loaded with stuff and fully charged.

Europecar called to take a £1 deposit & to tell me the Blue BMW Automatic 'hire car' will be ready to collect at lunch time from the dealership.

(I assume a diesel, never asked and should not assume, matters not.)

So i will go clear stuff out the Corsa, put seats up & glue brake pedal cover back on.  (MOT fail last time on my van, first time in 46 years of doing that as i drive with left foot only)

No matter what the BMW is it will likely be cheaper than taking the Corsa for the weekend as the minimum charging was going to be 55 pence a kWh and i would have been charging at least 3 times before Monday. The 2nd charger i was looking at using is 69 pence a kWh & the 3rd 55 pence.  (I might have charged up Sunday night on a home charger to full before handing car in on Monday.)

Looking forward to a more relaxed weekend than i had thought i would have and have now changed timings of getting places and not needing to allow as much as over an hour sitting charging if luck gets me onto a charger for each 140-150 miles covered.

PS.

Now no need to be home before Tuesday or Wednesday so planned a longer trip as i drink my -diet Irn-Bru.
