Radio logos... has anyone tried putting them on a USB stick in one of the USB-Cs? Could this work?

Yes... see the posts just above yours. The MIB3 software does not let you add logos, and seems to rely on the ones transmitted by a minority of DAB stations.

  • Hi Alex, Rob,   I must admit I didn't realise that I could get web radio via the e-sim, I did try it and I'm pretty sure it said I needed to connect via Wi-fi but I spent so long going round

@CJJE sorry I wasn't clear. That's how much the app on my phone has used. No idea what's going through the eSim in the car.    When I collected it, I let it start an update to something or o

Got it thanks, I’m about two years out of date with the latest VAG 5F systems and what has what and does what!

Luckily, skoda have done it correctly. When you step out the drivers door remains unlocked.. like I said it was a bug that was patched by vauxhall

Hope you're not a parcel courier! The Staffordshire Police have seen a spate of courier's cars being stolen when they pop out to deliver a parcel without switching the engine off!

Nope, no couriering work undertaken.    Even when defrosting the car on the drive I either sit in it or wander around beside it as the car wouldn’t be insured if nicked.

Had some funnies started today, radio keeps switching itself on and off for a couple of seconds, keep getting message vehicle settings have changed,  last message that came up on screen "how can we help you" , looked for a system reset button, only ref I found was hold on/off button for 10 secs, anybody else had this problem, or know of an other reset method..

I've had the message saying settings have been changed and do I want to confirm them perhaps once every few weeks recently - which I'd assumed was down to me changing settings in the Connect app but that may be coincidental. But no other problems. I've read that other owners have had to reset the system as you describe so it sounds like that is the way to go. As cars get increasingly computerised we'll just have to get used to rebooting them now and then I guess.

Just been out for a run and touch wood the reset via the on/off button has fixed it this time...👏👏👏

I’ve just activated the my Skoda app  today and apart from the remote locking unlocking (which I am waiting for dealer to activate) all seems good and all the many listed services are shown as activated under “users privacy and services” on infotainment. I am still confused though - should I have a connect logo on the infotainment to access these services or does it all happen behind the scenes or am I being impatient as it has not  been fully activated by dealer as yet? . Also still trying to understand if the connect services are provided by the integrated esim (for 1st year??) or to access them can/do I have to use my iPhone data plan via its personal hotspot?

I also have a “3” network  WiFi dongle I used to use in my golf for online traffic etc - would that work as an alternative to iPhone hotspot if needed?

For MY21 Karoqs in the UK, the eSim gives you:

1: eCall (the automatic or manual call to an emergency call centre) for the life of the car.

2: Proactive Services (Breakdown calls, Information calls, a vehicle health report, service scheduling, online personalisation, and online system updates - but not map updates) for the first 10 years.

3: Care Connect Remote Access (for driving data, parking position, vehicle status, area & speed notifications, honk & flash, online anti-theft alarm - and lock & unlock if activated by a dealer) for the first year. It then costs between 40 and 60 Euro a year to renew.

4: Infotainment Online (online map updates, online traffic information, parking spaces, petrol stations & prices, online route calculations, online voice control, online POI import (when this becomes available), online destination import and the online shop) for the first year. It then costs between 50 and 70 Euro a year to renew.

Note that you can use a dataplug and the Skoda Connect Lite phone app to provide the driving data and parking position for the price of the dataplug if you don't want to continue to pay for the Care Connect Remote Access service.

Many thanks for the clarification. I think my main issue was should I have access via a connect logo on the infotainment screen or does it all happening behind-the-scenes remotely and is only accessible via a remote/phone app?

It varies is I think the best answer!

If you have the white globe symbol showing that you have an internet connection, then you are able to use the buttons for an SOS call (if it hasn't been triggered automatically), breakdown call or information call. The online system updates are received automatically with a message on screen asking if you want to install it (which can only happen when you're parked). The service scheduling will also ask you if you want to contact your preferred service dealer for a service. Other features merely send data to your phone app for you to read at your leisure (eg driving data, parking position, vehicle health). The connection to the online shop is via the infotainment screen menu, and if you send a destination to your car, you will get a message asking if you wish to navigate to it or save it (eventually... last time I tried it took several days before the Skoda server passed it on!) Other services such as the number of parking places and petrol prices pop up when you navigate to a car park or petrol station. And the online traffic information or voice control happen in the background.

Note: Although the manual talks about sending complex journeys with stopovers and routes from the Skoda Connect website, for the time being it only seems able to sends the final destination.

My downloaded copy of the Owners Manual has a section called Online Services which details this, but now Skoda have removed this I'm not sure how much is provided in your paper copy, or the new digital owners manual on the Skoda website. I've already given up on the owners manual in the Skoda Connect app as that doesn't cover MY21 cars!

Many thanks. I’m sure I’ll get to grips with it, it’s just that it works a bit different to how my golf GTi  connect operated

Been tinkering with my wifi dongle but not really sure I understand anymore!

When my wifi dongle is connected (at least the wifi symbol is lit so I assume it is connected) nothing really seems to change connect wise, other than a message comes up saying integrated esim is disconnected when wifi is in use - the green sos light remains lit regardless  - perhaps because the esim has several independent functions? web radio still does not seem to work when using wifi - says "unavailable" and I get an infotainment message saying media streaming unavailable and I get a little "1" notification at top of infotainment screen that will not delete. As soon as I disconnect the wifi dongle, it says the integrated esim will reconnect and the "1" notification disappears. So, really don't know what/if a dedicated data plan offers anything different compared with integrated esim!

Why are you using a Wi-fi dongle?

Partly experimenting! I’m trying to work out whether the eSIM gives you access to all connect services? I’ve been told apparently there is things like News and weather et cetera but I can’t see how to get access to that or even if it’s available, so just thought I would try a Wi-Fi dongle as an alternative?

I believe you can buy access to the News and Weather apps in the Skoda "Shop" but only if you have the Columbus infotainment system in the Karoq.

It does give you all those things but you have to buy some of them in the shop part of the system.

I'm not surprised that this thread is still running (I first contributed a question October 2020) as the current Skoda infotainment system certainly isn't user friendly. However, after my initial problems setting up and after a bit of help from Bristo's Skoda, I'm pleased to say that I haven't had any further problems. This is partly I suspect because I'm content with what I've got; I have never been able to access the shop or get anything on internet radio but I don't really need either of them. I do use the Skoda Navigation regularly plus Spotify via Android Auto. I did try navigation using Google Maps via Android Auto and I was surprised that the small centre display still gives turn messages, however the audio directions were all broken up probably because I was running Spotify at the same time!!

I still find entering new destinations difficult at times but I heard a rumour that VAG were going to issue an update to use What Three Words has anyone else heard this?

Bristo’s Skoda. - they are my local dealer too but I ended up with Vindis Bury St Ed’s as they sourced a stock car very quickly . Always try to use local dealer for everything else though!

I shouldn't have said anything about my last 10 months with no problems with the Karoq "connected" infotainment. Because on the first of August while driving on Hayling Island there was a ping and a rather alarming SOS message appeared see below. IMG_20210811_192637.thumb.jpg.ac3c6a8a2ea048d3c54373d35b79ac2e.jpgmessage on the

Seeing the word Workshop! I thought it was something serious with the car, I did eventually realise that it wasn't and I looked up by the rear view mirror and the green light was off and so was the skoda connect "world" symbol no longer on the screen. I suspected that perhaps we were in a cellphone deadspot so wasn't too concerned. Anyway it stayed like this until I reached the Premier inn in Havant, but was back to normal next morning. However a bit later that day on the M27 near Southampton it did it again. On both occasions it did not reconnect on its own but only after the car had been left locked for a while. Since then it has done it several more times, and I now realise that other aspects of Skoda Connect are affected

Going clockwise on M25 near Clacket lane on 11th August the message pinged again and this time the navigation went off and the screen just displayed the usual loading navigation message but for about 20miles, eventually the screen blanked and then navigation came back. However returning later that day anti clockwise I pulled into Clacket Lane with the system working OK but when I started the car to leave there was again a ping with the SOS message but this time the whole system froze as it was unable to load my user profile, so I had to drive home to Essex with no infotainment at all not even the radio as nothing would work (I did try switching off, locking doors etc. but nothing helped). And it did it again yesterday with my wife driving just as she was about to re-join the M25 clockwise after a stop at South Mimms. This time the navigation, radio and Spotify were not affected or so we thought. We didn't really need the naivigation but its useful in case of congestion or diversions but as we neared our home it repeatedly tried to re-caculate the route and looking at the map I could see that it thought we were a few miles away from where we actually were, so the GPS was also affected in some way.

Has this happened to anyone else?, or has anyone heard of anything similar.

I did allow a software update to install about 6 weeks ago so I rather suspect that but there doesn't seem to be an option to revert back. Also I'm reluctant to do a factory re-set as It was a painful process to set-up Skoda Connect when I took delivery in September.

I wish I still had my Yeti!!

Hi Ex-Yeti. I've had exactly the same issue twice in the last 2 days, at different places. It's very annoying, as you lose live traffic info on the Navigation page, and other services. I was able to use live traffic info on Google Maps via Android Auto to continue to Navigate through busy traffic last time.

It has happened to me three or four times before, but more sporadically, and once happened twice at the same geographical location.

It usually corrects itself and comes back on after switching the engine off and leaving it for a while, though on the first occasion it happened to me it was out for a week - I booked it in for an inspection at the time, but cancelled it after it came back on.

It is very frustrating, and for me is occasionally spoiling an otherwise very enjoyable car to drive.

Like you, I'd like to hear from others with the same issue, and how they have resolved this, or from Skoda with an update on the issue. With that in mind it's probable worth starting your post as a separate topic, rather than at the bottom of page 3 on another post. Let's hope it can be resolved. All the best, S.

Thanks Stephen, its good to know that at least one other owner has experienced the same issue. Like you I found that Android Auto would still work on the most recent occasion although on the 11th August nothing would work as it was just stuck trying to load my user profile (I needed to find the equivalent of ctrl-alt-delete to unfreeze it!).

Anyway I will take your advice and re-post it as a new item.

Thanks for the reply, and I agree that it's good to know you're not the only one with the issue.

I believe that the Ctrl-Alt-Delete equivalent is to long press (hold down) the on/off/volume knob untill the system shuts down and restarts. I tried this to correct the SOS error but it didn't resolve it. Let's hope we find a solution to this frustrating issue. Cheers.
