Correct, only ACC hold the Speed Downhill

ACC will maintain the speed to around 5-8%. I use it a lot - doing 30mph it will go as low as 28ish before accelerating properly and go as high as 32ish before braking properly.

Normal/dumb cruise will only control the minimum. At higher speeds it does a good job of the maximum (engine braking, wind resistance, etc) but is a bit hit and miss.

Obviously with ACC you can set follow distances, as well as how fast it acclerates, etc.

That's not my experience on numerous cars including two Skodas. My dumb cruise control pretty much matches the set speed. The only time it struggles is going downhill just like it does if you were trying to control your speed manually, either by braking or changing gear.

I drove to Lidl this morning got in my lane on the island, I'm turning off left. Alongside me was a Fiesta in the outside lane, all of a sudden a left indicator comes on the Fiesta and I get cut up and had to brake hard.

It was a driving school car, L plates on etc. They turned into Lidl car park, they use it as a practice parking thing. I pull up got out a calmly said to to the passenger (instructor) try not to hit my car again, (yes me on the island back there) whilst I'm shopping.

Some MG electric owners are reporting that their cars try to steer into parked cars so they only follow white lines anything between them is apparently invisible to the system?

^^^ Amazing that the cars can see white lines at the kerb where vehicles are parked when the car is going over 37 MPH & LKA is activated. This from AI sounds about right. .

All of these driver assist aids can actually work against you at times, especially if the software has a glitch. This morning in traffic, the car in front of me slowed because of a jam. I also braked, but somehow, my car thought I never braked hard enough, and slammed the anchors on hard and the ABS cut in. While it was bringing me to a complete halt, all the traffic in front of me had cleared, and there were several car lengths ahead of me, empty.

It was a good job; the car behind me was far enough back to avoid ramming me.

Exactly why i went for Pre 2024 cars as keepers, actually 2010,2018 & 2021. The 2020 & 2023 BEV,s were fine as far as LKA, just gentle warnings and some false warnings on hilly back roads.

Agree, but it would seem that Skoda must have been early adopters of these aids as my car is 2019 and the Superb before that had them on a 2016 plate.

@Graham Butcher Skoda & VW Group never actually bothered about Vorsprung durch Technik. Even if they are in there early with technology they can still be messing up years later and instead of evolving and improving they coc-k up time after time. Lots of that was when they thought they knew best or could do stuff cheaper and took software development inhouse.

But that is the cancer that industry suffers from, either bringing everything in house to make greater margins, or the opposite.farming all production out to subcontractors who are only intreasted in maxing profits.

CEOs of companies want that, yes but at what cost to the countries economy, when all of that home grown profit flies out of the country into the foreign owners banks. Even the camera controlled carpark at your local shops, pubs etc, all making massive profits and all owned by foreign companies. Just follow the money and you will be shocked, and all aided by successive UK governments, hence why the UK is broken.

I'm going to disagree with the VW bashing a bit.

7 years ago my Wife, driving a GTi, was momentarily distracted and missed a car slowing to execute a right turn. The cars collision avoidance worked exactly as it should.

Again my wifes 5 year old Golf R has range adjustment on the ACC to avoid the severe speed up or slow down that can occur if you set the detection distance to the shortest. It makes for very smooth motorway driving.

I always try to remember this stuff is all "assistance" it's not a substitute for driving properly. It's essential to get a calibration on all assistance system you are happy with or if you can't live with a particular system then turn it off. Yes, I know some default to on and you have to manually deactivate on each engine start but it takes seconds.

You now have this on New Type Approved Vehicles. Compulsory.

When I first drove the Kamiq on the test drive I didn't realise it had the lane assist on. Joining a dual carriageway on a slip road it was pulling me back in to the ever deminishing left side of the slip road. I've never used it again apart from when I forgot one time. A canal with a very narrow road alongside, go fast enough along that road and the lane assist kicks in, seems to be dragging you closer to the canal.

I'm sure it's good for some, me no likey, I don't need it either, much like stop/start it gets cancelled as a first button press, 2nd is lane assist. I wish I could nullify the SOS system too, that kicks in occasionally.

On one of mine I have set the car so that it remembers if the lane assist was off last time the car was running.

So when you start the car again it is still off.

I can still turn it back on if needed. ( Never ) 😃

No stop/start and lane assist on my 2020 Kamiq have to be switched off each time the ignition/engine is switched on again. I get used to it.

Got a Mazda with lane assist too, that can be permanently left in the off position, that only gives an audible warning and a very slight tug on the wheel when left on.

i was under the impression that Lane Assist "pulls you back" into your lane if you unintentionally drift out of your lane, so if you intend to cross into another lane and indicate before starting to move into the next lane it will allow you to complete the manovure

Lane assist will do exactly what was described. In reality it resists your lane change unless you are indicating. So in the case of joining from a slip road it will attempt to keep you on the slip road if you are not indicating.

But you have to remember how difficult and energy sapping it is for some to flick that switch with a single finger, I recall my early days of thumping the bodywork to get the semaphore indicators both out and back in
