Wiper Blades

Featured Replies

Hi All

Have taken my car into a main dealer in Leicester for an MOT and they quoted my £68 to fit 3 new wiper blades ( current ones are smearing a bit but not a fail ) - declined as that's excessive in my opinion!

What have others been quoted out of interest??

I doubt those from the dealer would have worked too well as they'd appear to be made out of gold.

The Bosch blades are 33.30 for a set of 3 on amazon. They take around 30 seconds to a minute for each, 30 seconds to put the wipers in maintenance. You can understand then how dealer prices plus the time they will quote, minimum 15 minutes say, and bobs your uncle £68.

On another note, never been through as many wiper blades on any car as my last 2 octavia VRS, although I live in Cumbria and it rains 356 days a year here 😀

I usually get my Bosch Aerotwin wiper blades from Euro Car Parts when they have a deal on. Excellent blades and with a discount code, a good price. I have just looked on their website and they do have a deal on at the moment. With the discount code of "MID60", a  twin set of front wiper blades are £35.39 for my Octavia.

agree with above aerotwin, normally somewhere between £30-40 for the set, take seconds to fit.

My current set have been on for 3 years and are just showing signs of failure.

Wiperblades.co.uk have them at a good price too, as pointed out they take seconds to fit...

SWF are the OEM and they are, imho and experience, much better then Bosch Aerotwin. If you can find SWF go for those instead.

Try Ebay BOSCH A860S, £18 upwards.

They are really cheap on Ebay, but I personally am never sure whether they are genuine from that site. The old saying, buy cheap buy twice springs to mind.

I've always bought my Bosch wipers on Ebay, they have always come in the correct packaging and worked as they should.

The issue is that there are genuine from genuine sellers and fake / snide from others, so unless a trusted seller you have no idea what might arrive until they do.

Not all fakes are crap, they might be pretty much as good as the genuine, but then you need to find that out by using them.

Good fakers do not make it easy to identify fake products, be that and consumables and safety items like Brake Parts, Steering, Suspension etc.

I have found that all of the Bosch blades I have ever fitted have only lasted five minutes, I am not a fan. I have taken Bosche blades off after less than 6 months and very few miles as they have been juddering and very noisy. Buy cheap buy twice. Original replacement Skoda blades have now been on well over 12 months with no issues. The fronts. https://www.theskodashop.co.uk/products/skoda-front-wiper-blade-set-octavia-iii?_pos=4&_sid=f21c01525&_ss=r The Bosch also have a different size for the passenger side about 25mm longer. The rear. https://www.theskodashop.co.uk/products/skoda-rear-wiper-blade-octavia-iii?_pos=1&_sid=f21c01525&_ss=r

@stanian

If we only knew who manufactured the wiper blades that are on a Skoda / VW or those that you buy. It will not be Skoda.

I could never pay that sort of money for wiper blades, I have always used cheap as chips refills from Maccess, they are no longer trading but I had a big stock.

My last 2 vehicles had Bosch Aérotwins and theres no doubt that they are very good, but bloody pricey! Standard refills wont fit them but I found an Ebay seller that has the correct profile and sells 2 lengths of 650mm for £5 so I bought 3 sets, have yet to try them as the originals are still working well.

The Bosch Eco wipers are an overpriced badged rip off made of Chinesium and you should not pay any more for them than from Lidl when they have them, they are good value and work well.

I bet those would be significantly cheaper from TPS.

The trouble with TPS near me, they have now stopped selling to members of the public. Shame as I used to get a lot of parts there.

Have they actually stopped or were you dissuaded by the sign that they had (no choice but to) put up?

One look at the chart covering the whole back wall at my local TPS leaves you in no doubt that it is a sales target driven organisation and so must be all the other branches, they want every bit of business that they can get as long as it does not waste their time & take them away from taking phone orders from their customer base.

They prefer customers that know what exactly they want & prefer to deal over the phone, at the trade counter its usually taxi drivers, same rules apply, they are not keen on the needy.

I've bought Bosch blades from Halfords and Amazon over many years for several vehicles. No problems with any of them . Long life also.

I buy SWF brand which was OEM on my 2018 octy, friends which tried say they are superior to Bosch. If anybody needs more info I think I have pics somewhere.

Easy option is to head to Halfords and pick up the Bosch wipers, or save a few quid and buy Bosch online. Either way they'll be half price, better quality and you just push the button in on the wiper arm to slide off as fit the new ones.

OEM wipers are rubbish; changed the ones on my brand new Karoq after 6 months as they smeared! The rear wiper on my brand new Tiguan squeaked and hesitated. Another example of cost cutting.

DON'T FIT OEM!

I'm just about 2 years into my current VRS, so I've had whatever the wonderful original ones which lasted from January to November, and a set of the bosch ones which have lasted November to November it seems. The bosch ones on amazon are £22 delivered for a set.

And which brand was it?

OEM is not a brand, vw and skoda are not producing wipers, mine SWF first fitment lasted 2 years with no remark. In skoda dealerships they are selling rebagged wipers so maybe they are good, maybe rubbish. I didn't say buy OEM, I said buy SWF in car part shop if you want decent wipers, avoid being ripped off in dealerships.

+1 for the Bosch Aerotwins, numbers for Octavia hatch below;

Drivers side - AP24U

Passengers side - AP19U

Rear - A403H

I’d recommend getting these from Halfords if you have or know someone with a trade card (25% off). If not you’re looking at £52 all around with free delivery.

Failing that they may offer a discount over the Black Friday period... that now seems to span a couple of weeks!

Be aware though that Halfords don’t stock the A403H in store, it is only available online. I made this mistake when I picked up the H 403.

I bet it would cost me in petrol to get to my nearest TPS.
