My Third MK3 Superb But The First Diesel

Featured Replies

Back in the Superb this Friday for 3 days commuting which should take me from the current 444 miles on tank number 4 to around 600 miles then 3 nights in the wife's Karoq as it hasn't done many miles since the annual MOT in January and need to keep the battery topped up. Range left is showing 550 miles so could get close to 1,000 miles on this tank if the weather stays mild as the last two journeys saw 72 and 73mpg. Since refueling average shown is 66.6mpg and as it tends to be about 5% optimistic the actual is probably about 63mpg corrected. Will find out in March as no fuel been needed in February just like last November when I was also on Holiday.

I got a text message from him on the 24th March to say goodbye & confirming he had been banned for life. He didn't say why & I didn't ask.

  • As the latest 150PS diesel or EVO version is brand new to Skoda thought I would check on tonight's rush hour commute how efficient it is with ambient temperature 8C. After 6 miles and just joined the

Only 1.5C this morning so managed 67mpg on the downhill commute to work and on the uphill return home it was 7.5C and got 72mpg. The since refueling average is now 67.1mpg and after 499 miles on this tank there is 500 miles left in the tank. Watching a 4 year old interview with the Boss of Alpina with Joe Achilles and he tells him that Alpina concentrate on lots of torque at low rpm to shoot out of corners quickly making them very usable at real world speeds much like a good diesel.

Just to demonstrate the importance of ambient temperature to a diesel this morning's commute again 1.5C but no frost to thaw so managed 69.6mpg on the mainly downhill route and return journey (with 9.5C) at one point saw 77.8mpg but ended up being  still impressive at 74.1mpg. Now driven 554 miles with 450 miles left in the tank.

Ended up taking the Superb for my first night shift last night and passed 3,000 miles driven since 17th October 2020 and due to the colder temps done 663 miles on this 4th tank and 300 miles remaining so the elusive 1,000 mile tank will have to wait for warmer weather. Car now has 9,285 miles on the clock.

When it does get a bit warmer you should carry a can with you.  it wont be 1000 mile tank unless you actually do it!

Might put a tank of BP Ultimate diesel next time although I know it will be much pricier than my usual Sainsbury's diesel because it's lasting so long the extra cost doesn't bother me as the wife's Karoq last year was using £200 of petrol in Jan/Feb yet at the moment she used just £75 in the last 2 months.

Off topic warning!

Was chatting with a mate at the weekend about posh fuels.  He has a vrs tdi (vs my mapped 150 tdi) and always uses supermarket fuel.  I pretty much always used v-power and gained a couple mpg (based on the couple of tanks regular when first getting the car).  The main time I did notice it was when forced into using regular fuel and not able to use it on longer runs.  The v-power was noticeably better around town if I kept using it.

However, I do understand that many people see no difference.  I think it requires a certain type of driver and journeys to see the benefit.

On the way to work today after 790 miles on this tank still had 200 miles left but it will be at least another week before I need fuel.

I assume the superb has a 60-75L tank from the ranges mentioned here?

66 Litre is the official size (14.5gallons) but some have managed to put another 5 litres in the neck leading down to the tank.

Driving home last night when I passed J21A on the M1 the car was averaging 80.9mpg and the ambient temp was 9.0C and by the time I got home at 828 miles it had averaged 74.7mpg for the 27 mile journey. Now decided to take it for my 3 nights so should fill up Friday morning at around 936 miles.

Why is Shy banned? Or has he fell asleep at the wheel whilst recording his economy?

I will have to look to see if any others are Missing In Action.

Surprised that it should happen at this time.

What happened to @shyVRS245?

I'm guessing from his profile that he's been banned, but for how long?

Did he fall victim to our resident snowflakes?

I know he's ruffled a few feathers but a lifetime ban!

I thought that was what the ignore button was for.

I got tired of reading about his mpg so ignored him. Banning does seem to be the nuclear option.
