that one ^ does 0-208kph in just under 19 seconds.....?

the only way to have a reliable measurement is using a 10hz gps. That said, it's obviously a fast car.

My 272, when stock, was 0-100 --> 5.5 sec, 100-200 --> 18.4 sec

Stage1 0-100 --> 4.36, 100-200 --> 12.57

For under 19 seconds on 0-200 seconds it has to have been remapped.

ive seen plenty of videos on youtube where they hit 200kph in under 20 seconds - they cant all be tuned?

Again: not possible. Either tuned or on a downhill. To elaborate on this:

Videos of the speedo without GPS verification are irrelevant and not representative at all, even more so on the 100-200 part which takes several hundred meters and the impact of downhille slope becomes very significant.
That is if someone is actually interested in accurate numbers and fair comparisons of-course, otherwise for the pub they're fine.

Now the vid above shows a 0-104 of just over 5 seconds which points to a stock car (slope has much less impact on that time), and a 104-208km/h speedo measurement of roughly 14" (without the continuous tacho view enabled it's hard to tell exactly where the 104 is), in unknown, road flatness.
To provide some context, a mere -2.5% of downhill slope (which is not even such an extreme figure) means the correct time when slope is accounted for is 16" (there are calculators for this), and it could easily be even more, see where I'm getting?

Plenty of stock 272 have been timed in the 100-200 run and they consistently do between16" at best and 17"-18" more often, depending on the body type and equipment, bringing the total 0-200 to a 21" at best.

There may be whatever tacho videos showing 0-200 in under 20 seconds, but you won't find a single GPS verified measurement to back them up, and there's a reason for that.

You mean under 21 seconds :D but with some good combination of tailwind and cold weather a stock car could get into the 20s, but that's really as fast as it could ever see.

Maybe 20s is a bit optimistic, but by 22s or even 23s it's still fast. The real game changer IMO is 4x4 and acceleration from low speeds, as you said earlier.

The first time I tried the launch control both my wife and I were really shocked. This even if years ago we had for a short time an M6 (E63) that should have been able to hit 200 kmh in about 14 sec, but I can remember that standing start was not so brutal as Superb's.

can anyone tell me if the Superb has the feature where it shows you the speed limit of the road you are driving on, as a little display within your main digital display?

Was looking at the VW Arteon 272 earlier and they seemed to have it on them, but I haven't seen any photos of a Superb with this feature.  Is it an optional extra?

You only get it on the main screen when using sat nav but not on the virtual dash unless it is specified as an optional extra.

what would it be called as an optional extra, is it part of a "pack" of some description?

Think it would be TSR or Traffic Sign Recognition.

Mine has it. When it recognises a sign it shows it on the VC in place of the clock. So very top centre of the dash. Also shows it on Nav screen.

Would anyone here buy/purchase GAP insurance through a dealer, or go elsewhere (one of the other insurance companies)?

The dealership i am dealing with have included GAP for 3 years in my PCP quote and its costing £11 a month.

Or I can get cover for 4 years for about £28 a month (for 10 months - so £280 outlay).

Just not sure if they are all much of a muchness?

Can't comment on GAP insurance as I never have experience of it.

But does this mean you have found a car!? What is it and hopefully we get to see photos!

i have found one - just negotiating on price.

it is RIGHT at the top end of my budget - like at the max, so trying to get a little more off etc.

It is also bloomin miles away, so i need to work out how i would pick it up.  I need a new car, as mine has died - and I need a car to pick my son up every other weekend, so in my mind picking a car up would be an essential journey, but i guess the police might not see it that way? (will cost £200 for it to be delivered).

Good luck with it. I'd argue it's essential. Unless the car is located in a beauty spot... I don't see a high risk of getting into trouble with the police.

TSR is just another toy. In 2022 all new cars sold in the UK and EU will have speed limiters, you might as well wait until then.

Still negotiating - just checking an issue with the mileage.

The dealership has shown me a summary detail page of the car which shows the VED List Price being £39,670 - I assume this is the price that is used for tax reasons, and therefore it will not be in the higher bracket?

Is there anywhere of checking what the tax is for this particular car by using the reg?

I went with Dynamo cover when I got mine on a 4 year return to invoice policy which cost me £165 on a £20k purchase price.

probably money I’ll never see back but peace of mind and considering the near death out of body experience I had this morning on some unexpected black ice nearing a crossroads maybe it’s a good thing to have.... :o

So, thought i would bump this old thread rather than start a new one.

I am in need of a "new" car, and i am in a position where I can get a car I want (something like a superb 272, octavia vrs etc), or I just go and buy a little run around for a few thousand - something I don't want, but will work for me.

Having seen the second hand market prices go through the roof, i was put off getting a 272 as a car that was £24k this time last year is now selling for £28-30k this year - it's crazy.

But, i found this one the other day - it is slightly older than i would have liked, and has 50k miles on the clock, but it does have the digital dash which is what i have been holding out for, and its under £20k.  Can i get others thoughts on it?  I personally love the colour, the wife not so much.  The only real "issues" with the car are the seat bolster is worn a bit - assume that isn't repairable, and the passenger front door handle has an issue where its jutted out and doesn't sit flush, so the garage are fixing that before the car is sold.

The car in question is this one....thoughts?

@sheriffwoody Have you checked what actual servicing has been done and as the Guidelines / Recommendations.

Haldex @ 3 years / 30,000 miles, DSG @ 40.000, brake fluid @ 3 years or since?

the garage has sent through a service history certificate to me that reads:

date of service - 30.01.2018

type of service - Used car MPC

mileage - 7,001

date of service - 08.06.2020

type of service - Oil change service

mileage - 33,459

That is all i have, apart from it is on a 18,000 mile/2 year service interval
