Rapid 1.2 TSI 90hp

Featured Replies

Hi guys, new owner of a Rapid

Bought it 10 days ago from the local dealer with just under 50 000km.

And yesterday, after 300-400km, there the waterpump goes. They’re getting it fixed, warrenty covers.
My question is: Should I try and return it? Is it a sign for e greater issue?

The warranty is off in 11 months and that scares me :)).

Thanks in advance. / I’m a complete noob/

I think this engine has two water pumps.

One electrical at the front of the engine and one mechanical at the bottom end on the gearbox side.

Which one?

Thanks, AG Falco

Well, they referred to it as the water pumP. We recognized a problem after the coolant started dripping.

How many miles has your car done Shagy? Where did you buy it from?

A component such as a water pump failing at 4yrs is possible. Sadly our cars are made up of a collection of parts that do occasionaly fail.

If it's being repaired, all should be well. You've 11 months warranty to help you iron out any bugs your car has.:)

Just under 50 000km

Shouldn’t it be replaced in combination with the timing belt?

I got it from an authorised skoda dealer, it used to be a company car, the clutch is as good as new, seems like a good vehicle, but the recent events made me doubt that.

I'm not sure if your engine has a timing belt. You've got a low mileage car from a reputable source, are they not sharing the information with you? I would expect the after sales team to be happy to let you know.

I’m pretty sure it has a timing belt, but the guy who accepted the car and did the diagnostics said only that they’re getting the water pump fixed in a week. I’m gonna ask them more, but I doubt that they are gonna share everything. Hopefully it will be alright afterwards.

Ask them. It's your car, and you need the answer! Try email if you prefer, so you get it in black and white. They must know what they are doing to it.

I'm not sure that a timing belt should be reused at 4yrs old anyway. If it is timing belt, I would ask to buy a new one from them and have it fitted whilst they are doing the job,

NB: If you have the engine code, you should be able to google if chain or belt engine.

It is belt for sure, I’m going to ask them if they’re going to replace it. Thanks!
