Android 11 & Android Auto Wireless

Featured Replies

Unfortunately the USB port remains live in Skoda.

However my AAWireless unit turns off after the default 20 secs.

I can configure it to whatever I want it to b, in milliseconds, under the AAWireless app settings.

I'm thinking of changing it to 10 secs.

  • I also have a an AAWireless on 'order'.  latest update looks like they are shipping the first batch in Feb so should start to land on doorsteps towards the end of the month.

It's possible the setting has stuck actually. I've not unplugged it tonight and not had it pop up. Fingers crossed. It's also a touch slow to start up. A couple of minutes sometimes. Usually about 30 secs. Long enough that I can't just jump in, get comfy and tell it where I want to go.

mine is up an running within 20-30 secs after firing the car up.

happy with that, as its ready to go before the car had dropped from its cold idle speed.

sounds like u need to apply the latest OTA update.

My AAWireless fits nicely inside the slot located under the armrest console storage area.

With flap down, u'd not know its there.

I wonder of this is another model year thing - mine is a FL and cuts off ~ 20 seconds after turning off the ignition.  Not that it really matters.

I'd forgotten that was there!  Good call.

No way 2020 Superb has Wireless Android Auto, it's MIB2.5 head unit.
Wireless out of box is available only on MIB3 (like the new Golf and Octavia).

In this case, I expect they have a 70 plate which is likely a MY21 with an MIB3 headunit.

I can confirm that MY21 has Wirless Android Auto.

  • 1 month later...

Has anyone been able to connect to AA wirelessly? My head unit works with wireless Apple Carplay. My phone recently got updated to Android 11 but I can't get it working.

Hey! I'm new here :) Just bought my first Skoda and was wondering if I could use Android auto wirelessly.. I have a late 2017 superb. Also do you have a USB port in that compartment ? I don't think I do :O

Congrats on ur first Skoda.

Yes, with the AAWireless device, u can use Android Auto wireless.

I've been using mine for a couple of months now - it's been flawless, great and so convenient.

No, normally there isn't a USB port inside the centre arm console.

I routed the one from the front to inside that compartment.  See pic below.

The proper way would b to retrofit an additional port, hence utilising the blank cover (under the light).

But this retrofit requires a lot more work, more wiring, more parts and coding.

I'll do it one day.

For now, this way works nicely, for now.

Ah, I suspected you did something like that. I guess I'll just buy AAWireless 💪🏻 Does it have to be that specific USB port ?

My Superb (MY17) came with only 1 USB port, next to the phonebox, so yes.

It has to b a data enabled USB port, hence connecting a USB adaptor or something to the 12V socket at the rear of the console will not work.

My MY20 Superb iV with MIB3 does not support AA wireless, or so it tells me.

I guess it needs a firmware update?

I too though MIB 3 had native support. If not, I and others have had good success with the AAwireless product.

AAWireless + MIB2/2.5 is way way more stable and less buggy than MIB3 with native wireless Android Auto or CarPlay.

When I connect mine, it asks me to attach the USB cable.

So where can I get an Android Auto Wireless dongle from? Is there another source other than Indiegogo?

I think indiegogo is the only way.  They (along with everyone else) have been having chip supply issues, so I think the delivery times have been slipping.

I think they are hoping to fulfill orders up to July by the end of September so they are 2-3 months behind.

I'm sure I saw another device that did carplay too but it was double the price and still on a crowdfunding site.

For what it's worth, out of 3 things I have "bought" on crowdfunding sites, I have received 2 and got a refund for the 3rd. So I would have no issues going in on another item.

Just checked my phone. It is still stuck on Android 10.

Looks like an AA Wireless is the sensible way forward.

Not sure wat ur implying here, but I'm using AAWireless with my phone running Android 11.

It looks to me like he's not implying anything, just stating his phone wont update to the point he can use 'official' Android Auto Wireless, so this AAWireless dongle is his best option.  What did you think he was 'implying'?!

Having only just AA working on my new (to me) Superb, I might wait and see, but I suspect most times I will want the phone plugged in so it charges anyway.  I guess when I hop in the car in the morning for my 10 minute commute, it might be nice if it automatically connected and I can AA Wirelessly...  we'll see I guess. Orders aren't shipping until January now anyway.

I was implying that my phone being on Android 10 may be the reason the Wireless connection to my MIB3 unit does not work.

Ah, I c.

Sorry, I didn't mean to b rude.

It just didn't make sense initially.

Yes, i believe u'll need Android 11 for the phone to natively pair wirelessly with the MIB3, that supports wireless.

Native wireless android auto needs any phone on Android 11 or a Google or Samsung phone on Android 10. I'm sure there are a few outliers (Nokia, OnePlus, etc) but these are the official words from Google.

  • 1 month later...

My Samsung Galaxy S9 on Android 10 won’t connect.

I tried again today, so I may buy the AAwireless gizmo. It is cheaper than a new phone…
