  • Sorry to dredge up this topic, but I just wanted to say that I got my AAwireless unit this week, and all is working well (with an MIB2 Columbus). There wasn't any customs duties or VAT to pay - the va

  • I also have a an AAWireless on 'order'.  latest update looks like they are shipping the first batch in Feb so should start to land on doorsteps towards the end of the month.

I meant wirelessly. I should have been clearer.

Don't think any superb is wireless enabled so that answers that. AA wireless is currently the best way.

I have a MY21 MIB 3 unit and native Android Auto Wireless works flawlessly.

I have the opposite question though. When using wireless AA it absolutely obliterates my phone battery and there's a small amount of lag on the keyboard entry.

If I plug into one of the usb ports (ashtray or armrest) , will it switch back to the wired connection, or will it still connect wirelessly but use the usb for power?

Plug in your phone and slide down the notification menu at the top of the phone.

It will tell you what the USB setting is currently set to and allow you to change the connection type. I can't remember the exact wording, but it should say something like it is set for data transfer or file sharing. That means you have a wired connection to the head unit. (You may still need to set AA up, if you haven't connected before, but it means you do have a data connection ready).

One of the available options will be to connect for charging only if you so wish.

I may have misunderstood the above, are you saying you cannot connect wirelessly via AA in any Superb?

Because you can, my Samsung A42 on Android 11 connects wirelessly to my Superb within seconds of me starting the car up. I only ever plug mine in if I want to charge the phone.

Ah yes, there are the more recent models with mib3. No other models do it.

At long last, my AA Wireless dongle has shipped.

Put a wireless charger in your arm rest box, that way it keeps the battery charged when using wireless AA. I didn't realise at first how badly the battery

drains when using AA.

I saw your post about that. My phone gets hot using AA wireless. Combining it with heat from wireless charging seems like a recipe for bad news? How do you find that after longer trips?

My phone (Pixel 5) does get slightly warm but it's been fine as it's not exactly fast charging as it would with a wired charger.

BUT... the arm rest box is chilled via the air con so win win 😀  I'm sure that's what it was designed for 🤔

@ItalianJob- unfortunately a majority of Superbs do not have the additional USB port in the armrest console

I converted the rear 12V socket to dual USB ports so I can keep my Pixel 5 on wired charge when driving for 2+ hrs, with the Wireless Android Auto running.

When did the USB get added to the centre console?

it was an option in certain markets, on the pre-facelift Superb.
hence u would have the usual USB port under the climate control, and an additional one inside the centre arm console storage.

Dragging this topic back up…

I recently did a three hour trip, using Waze through the AA wireless dongle, with the phone placed on the Qi charger.

the phone got quite hot, and stopped charging, and when it cooled, it would charge again.

The phone is a Samsung Galaxy 9, so is getting on a bit. I am thinking of replacing it with either a Samsung Galaxy S22, S21 FE or a Google Pixel 6.

Has anybody got experience of these phones with the Qi charger, using GPS on a long run?

Do they get hot.

For longer journeys, I can switch back to a PD cable if required, but I would prefer to remain wireless, if I can.

It's not uncommon, a lot of wireless chargers have fans built-in because of this.  I'm assuming yours doesn't?

I seem to recall reading similar accounts, and I think it is probably to be expected in this usage. Lots of heat being generated by both the charging and the high power use from the GPS, and not great airflow across the phone. My phone has never fitted comfortably in the charging pad in my Kodiaq, so I moved to using a phone holder with wireless charging. They typically have an integrated fan, and I've also got mine mounted in front of the A/C vent, which also helps in warmer weather. I've never experienced any over-heating with this, and it's charging at 50w.

On long trips (2 hrs +), my Google Pixel 5 gets too hot in the Superb's built-in wireless charger, if using wireless Android Auto.

So for long trips I now connect the phone via the cable.

Don't forget when using QI and AA wireless you have thee main heat generators:

1. Constant GPS use

2. Processor and chip use as all the graphics processing are done on the phone, not the car

3. Heat generated via the QI coils

Whilst the phone will protect itself, the prolonged high temperature state for the battery can't be good for it's long term health?

Just plug it into the USB if it's going to be a long trip.

It is a shame there is not any built in ventilation.

What is the optimum length cable?

Will a 10cm cable work well, or is it too short?

10cm seems too short. 20cm seems too long.

I have ordered a 15cm cable that should be ok.

I have a 20cm quadlock one that works fine, doesn't get in the way :)

I have 2016 superb and just updated my OnePlus to the latest android 12.

Android auto is no longer able to connect at all, I have tried 3 different cables of different brands.

Any ideas?

Since the last update, i have been experiencing a lot of freezes, especially on google maps, youtube music plays, but the screen is frozen, i can change songs on the steering wheel, but to get it to unfreeze i need to select any other funcition on the mib, then go back to AA, then repeat a few times till it starts working.. never had that happen before the last android update, tried 4 different cables, same, works perfect with my wifes iphone, no freezing at all!
