Mirrorlink being used over Android Auto

Featured Replies

I'm hoping someone can help!

I have had Smartlink activated on my Octavia and its been working spot on apart from the usual crash which seems to be common. The issue i have now is that for some reason the default connection has been set to Mirrorlink rather than Android Auto. So every time I start the car it says connection failed and then i have to select AA and it works fine.

I have spent too much time going through menus to try and change the default from Mirrorlink to AA but nothing seems to work. I am sure i have seen something on the tinternet that shows how to switch but can i find it now i want it............... **** no!!

Hoping someone knows the dark art of changing it or can send a link

Thanks

Mirrorlink is old and no longer supported by phones, it was replaced by AA.

The car may call it Ml initially until you plug in a phone, but unless you are using a very old Andoid it will be running AA.

I am not trying to use mirror link which is the problem. The car defaults to ML when i plug my phone in (Samsung A21s) and then doesn't work as its not on my phone. I then have to select AA and it works fine. The car initially automatically went straight to AA but now doesn't. I'm trying to find out how to change the defaults.

Two things:

1) This sounds like a firmware issue with the MIB system.  Can you send us a screenshot of your system (Part number and firmware version) [press/hold Menu -> Show Firmware]

2) When you get that screenshot, tag pab567 with the '@' symbol and ask if you have the latest firmware.

3) Update your phone - make sure you have the latest Android patches and firmware installed on your A21 - make sure that all Play Store apps are all up to date.

My 2018 model does this now, but didn't used to. Smartlink was enabled from the factory and I've owned since new. Unfortunately I can't pin point a date when it changed. This suggests to me its the AA app rather than the car, as I don't believe the car's firmware has had an update? I may be wrong...

I've noticed if you plug in on the same day, having already selected AA in the morning say, it'll load it up normally.

Never noticed this with my MY18 vRS and my pixel 2 or pixel 5.

To the OP, I'd be temped to factory reset the headunit and see if that helps.

Did a full reset on my lunch break (phone & car) still not joy. It seems that when you go into select ML or AA it is fixed to ML and does not give you the option to choose AA.

As mentioned it works, it just seems there is a step that does not need to be there when it used to be just plug an play!

Phone is all up to date.

Smartlink was installed less than 1 month ago so should all be up to date. Also as mentioned it was working but now has defaulted to ML on first connection.

I think I have fixed it (emphasis on think) When you connect your phone unlock the phone and go to the USB settings. Mine was set at data transfer but i changed it to Android Auto. Works fine now and now button pressing or connection failures

Will give that a go! Thanks.

Don't want to hijack, but I still haven't put my hand in my pocket for Smartlink/Mirrorlink/Android Auto or whatever it is.

If I'm satisfied with my current satnav (it'll do for what I need), is there any other bonus to paying £140 to add it? If I could watch SkyGo on my head unit when parked, it would be worth it, but I'm assuming you can't...

thanks

Yes. The car's sat nav will go out of date. Google Maps or Waze won't.

Spotify is nice to use on the car's screen also.

You can download the updated maps from updateportal.skoda-auto.com - or you can download them from this forum [have a look in the ICE/Entertainment systems part of the forum for the links].  Both MIB1 and MIB2/2.5 maps are fully supported.

Thanks. But I don't need to because my phone automatically updates. 😁

Absolutely - you have the choice for either Android Auto/Carplay or the in-built maps.  The choice is yours.

That's my logic. I can update my maps via Skoda FOC and if there ever becomes a point in the future that I can't, the likelihood will be that my infotainment system will be too old to support Appledroid 37.3 or whatver we are using!! :)

MIB1 Amundsen maps on both the Skoda portal and the VW infotainment website haven't been updated since the version in June last year (even though the VW website claims it was updated in November 2020 this isn't true - it's the same maps, I've done a byte by byte comparison of all 6GB).

Strangely the Skoda Portal claims those maps are 2020/22 - which is either a typo or a hint that there won't be any MIB1 Amundsen map updates until December 2021 or later?

It's ok, with lockdown they haven't built any new roads in South Devon anyway, so I don't think I'm going to stumble across a new round-a-bout or housing estate on my travels between my house and Tesco... :)
