Didn't get them done, and I'll explain why below.

 

To everyone - got it home. Needed a fuel filter, two rear brake cylinders (now have a good handbrake and the thing stops excellently), and a CV boot. Not bad, not bad. But 4 hours labour adds up, plus the MOT, and the parts. I'm now £270 lighter. But in all honesty I couldn't have completed most of those jobs myself anyway due to a lack of a suitable workspace. 

 

Console bushes can get done at some point in the future. I can turn the radio up enough to avoid the creaking. :D

 

Anyway... silver linings and that...

Saw 56mpg on the way back with a gentle touch on the throttle, and saw the above just as I parked up. :party:

Agreed. Going to do my service early and a lot more in-depth since it's just touching 60k now.

Doing the three filters; oil, pollen, and air. Three spark plugs and the other two old coil packs. Along with some 505.00 approved oil. So it was passing so I'd have a use for all these bits. :D

One big benefit of the new rear cylinders is how good the brakes are now, just about threw myself through the windscreen coming to a stop. Handbrake only takes two clicks to lock on as well. :)

That's if I don't already. I went to stop at the junction at the end of the road the garage is on as I usually would do and stopped about 50 yards short, swinging from my seatbelt. The schoolkids passing by got a good laugh out of it. :D

It was a bit of a pig of a job since I couldn't get the seat out of the car and hanging upside down for too long goes for my head. :D

It just wouldn't come out. It's about as flexible as I am (:D). Instead I took the headrest off, and the base of the seat behind it out and laid it at an angle to get at the screw holding the cover on. :)

I had to take my front seats out in order to clean all the glass up that time I had to smash the front window. I think I adjusted the backrests right forward which makes them easier to get out.

I did that too, which was easier for getting them at an angle to get to the base.

 

Your seats will probably be like mine and have no wiring underneath, which definitely makes these jobs easier! :)

So yesterday evening my Fabia developed a misfire with no dash tell-tale. Would switch off or be incredibly lumpy at idle, would be hesitant and then misfire upon hard acceleration below 2,000rpm and was down on power overall. I had two coil packs kicking about ready to go in at the next service, but that came early. So, taking advantage of the gorgeous weather, I went out and sorted the damned car out.

 

I had already changed coil pack two back when it severely misfired last December, leaving me to change one and three. Which I did. Pack three seemed to have some undisclosed substance on it and was pretty rough looking, so I'm assuming that's the one that has died.

All of these old ones were Lucas branded, so I'm assuming they're OEM?

 

Anyway, the new ones are Delphi's from TMS in Ayr (£20 a pop) so I'm pleased.

Now, just to be sure the car was running okay, I took it a run up to one of my favourite haunts, Loch Doon. Or rather, the entrance to Loch Doon, where there's a nice car park. On the way up I decided to push it pretty hard to make sure it was pulling well, and can confirm it is. It's very torquey now unlike before and doesn't bog down when setting off from a standstill. Overall, I'm quite pleased. :)

I don't think so, but if there are any date-codes decipherable on them that would give a good clue.  Keep the removed ones as spares, because at least one of them is probably fine.

OEM are usually Eldor, I think.

Was the first photo before you touched anything? Cyl 1 pack appears to be sat a few mm high of fully on?

Think it was as I removed it. It pulled out quite easily unlike Cyl 3. I'll see what date codes are on them. :)

Just noticed the improvised earth connection on the strut tower.  You did scrape away paint down to bare steel under that crimp terminal before screwing that down, right?  That'll be making a poor connection otherwise, as that screw is going into a threaded insert in the rubber top-mount, not some nice conductive material.

Aye it's scraped back to the metal. There's two earth connections as one goes down the way as well. The original mount for that earth sheared clean off. That area isn't pretty overall.

 

By the way, this is a photo of the writing on the pack for Cyl 1.

You'll also see the liquid I was referring to. Feels a bit like WD-40 to me.

No date-code I can make out there, and no sign of a VAG part number either which there would be if OEM.
