OEM ambient lighting retrofit

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I did a bit of research on retrofitting original ambient lighting but not a lot of usefull info. I managed to source OEM plastic penels with the  led strips online. Is there anything else that need to be replaced apart from the plastic penels? I know there's some coding involved  (still looking for info about coding as well) can it be done with VCDS?

THank you in advance

Any chance you can share the source for the interior trim? Im interested in retrofitting the ambilight as well!

Yes VCDS can do the coding.

Depending on what controller you have fitted that may need updating as well.

Do you have the correct BCM? If not, that’ll need changing too. 5Q0937084CG or DD is good along with some others but 084CF is no good. If you have Pin 29 on connector C you are good. Floor lights are a must too IMO.

Very nice, looks great.

Is this foot well mod an easy upgrade on vehicles with ambient lighting fitted?

Note: Apologies if I missed it but I've cruised these forums looking for the answer to no avail.........:blush

I'll let you know...

I've got the OEM parts to do this sat on the shelf. From what I understand:

- run a LIN-bus wire to each footwell light

- replace the connectors for each footwell light (2 pin to 4 pin)

- move the footwell power source to a suitable live (ideally the fuse for the other ambient lights)

- connect the new LIN-bus wire to the same pin as the ambient light LIN-bus

- fit new footwell lights

- some recoding

The only tedious bit is running the new wire as I expect I'll be taking the seats out to make it easier.

Not sure if @SashaGrace used OEM or aftermarket parts

I gotta admit, that looks awesome, any way, acording to OBDeleven scan these are the part no for the BCM and Gateway. I'm a bit confused but I wouldn't mind upgrading both as it was sugested before by our friend in north London.IMG_4366.thumb.JPEG.97bced84b2cc5f270d54241785499d13.JPEGIMG_4367.thumb.JPEG.8cb6863fcaa7da95fbf3131ab02f0a5b.JPEG

Not sure about that BCM. If you have MY18 with the lighting on the screens try coding it and if the menu appears and the screens change colour all will be well.

The VC and MIB 2.5 was an upgrade by our friend in London. and he said if I needed the view button on the steering weel I  need to upgrade the gateway as well. Don't really know about the BCM so I presume I might need to upgrade them.

Where exactly do you connect the led strips in the doors and dash? is there a conection already there or you need to tap into some wiring?

You need to add the power to fuse slot 8, ground, and LIN which is pin 29 connector C in the BCM. Gateway needs changing to 3Q0 for the VC extra views etc. BCM will need flashing to a newer firmware to do the lighting on the screens but it may work in the doors. Have a code and see what’s there.

At least on my MY18 Octavia, it was pretty much as I mentioned above...

Basically:

- Ran an extra wire between the 4 footwells for LIN-bus and connected it the existing ambient lighting LIN-bus (BCM connector C, pin 29).

- Moved the footwell lighting power feed from the BCM to a permanent live used for the existing ambient lighting.

- Replaced the two pin footwell connectors for four pin versions:

   - 2x 8K0 973 754

   - 2x 8K0 973 754 A

Pinout for the lamps is:

- pin 1: positive/power

- pin 2: LIN-bus

- pin 3: LIN-bus (identical to pin 2)

- pin 4: ground/earth

New footwell lamp part numbers are:

- 8W0 947 415 A - front left
- 8W0 947 415 B - front right
- 8W0 947 415 C - rear left
- 8W0 947 415 D - rear right

At this point, it's was just coding to get everything working, some of this post might help: https://uk-polos.net/viewtopic.php?p=581341&sid=09d240bf5c72251932bcb0470c453f34#p581341

The important thing is the car has a BCM which supports ambient lighting. From factory my car had 5Q0 937 084 CQ which made this much easier 👍

HI Sasha - I know youre a Guru when it comes to coding and hoped you could advise. My factory Ambients suddenly all stopped working a few weeks ago. All the coloured LED's in dash and doorsx4, footwells are ok and so are door handle lighting. could it have lost coding and would OBD11 cover long coding of ambients.

Its a big jump to make to assume coding, there are a lot of things id be checking before hand.

Have you got any fault codes? Checked fuses?

Hi, I'm about to equip my car with ambient lighting, can you tell me what options I have with this unit?

I updated my amundsen from 0253 to 0480 because I was giving VC.

Thank you.
