  • Well, after a 7 month wait, I picked up my Sportline facelift today. All options present, including Canton, and the electric child locks with the family pack.

"No build date available"

Yeah... my dealer has gone conspicuously quiet since the supposed 'build week' went by. I don't know whether that means it's half-built and awaiting electronics, or not even started yet.

I really don't mind all that much as I'm in no massive rush (as long as I get it before March when my PCP runs out), but I'm beginning to see a few facelift Kodiaqs around here now and it's making me just a wee bit jealous!

Hi Folks,

I placed an order for a Kodiak VRS 29th September. Being quoted 30 weeks for delivery per Skoda's guidance. Dealer reckons that it may well be 27 weeks based on what they are seeing to date, we'll see.  Have paid deposit and now have to sit & wait for about 10 weeks before likely to get a build date. I went for a lot of electronics so fully expect to hit all the delays possible.

will post updates when anything happens

Bought a Kamiq about a year ago and really don’t like it. Due partly to manufacturers contributions I looked at the Kodiaq. Dealer offered a reasonable deal and while I considered reserving a 1.5 sel DSg which had a due date of January someone nipped in and reserved it before me. Now the only option is a factory order and circa 25 week wait.

Anyway what I can’t understand is why manufacturing is so slow and is it the case that car manufacturers in general no longer hold a stock of new cars ?

What didn't you like about that model? I am curious :)

Manufacturing is so slow partly due to the pandemic, but mostly due to the worldwide shortage of computer chips.

Dealers are low or have no stock as a lot of people are buying them up, rather than wait 6 months or more on a new order.

Second hand prices are also at a record high as dealers struggle to get some cars for stock, and are paying premium prices.

@Bill65  Skoda had up to 55,000 cars sitting unfinished waiting for parts to allow them to get off to dealerships.

They had a great first 6 months of the years delivering more cars than they did in the first half of 2019.

So that is why there is no stock sitting to be snapped up and no need for dealerships getting demonstrators to keep First Registration number appearing higher by VW selling cars to themselves.

What they have done is ensure the Average C02 of cars First Registered is low enough that VW Group will not be paying a penalty like they had to in 2021.

Well, I would say that probably only few Kodiaqs are build on stock due to custom orders, especially at the beginning of new model. Cars like Fabia, Octavia are on stock but unfortunately not in this time 😞

We have just taken our Kodiaq in for its second anniversary service. Free service apparently yet we ended up buying a new one there and then. We collected it 2 days later.  Pre-registered dealer stock but just what we wanted.

Well, 7 weeks after my new Kodiaq started its build, and expected September delivery, dealer update today to tell me system still showing “delayed” and they have no idea when it will complete the build process or when to expect delivery 😞

Really my own fault but I decided to downsize and didnt do my homework. Kamiq sits way to low for me. It has enough space on most journeys however an unexpected addition to the pool of grandchildren makes space tight. I dont like the virtual cockpit and tbh I think the sat nav is hopeless. No matter how light a foot you have there is wheelspin when picking away in the auto. Visibility imo is poor. I generally dont like the dash e.g. Having to use bkth manual controls and the screen is ridiculous.

The car looks good, drives well and is solid however this doesnt make up for deficiencies. Hope ive not upset Kamiq owners its probably just personal preference.

Think youve been fortunate. This is what I was hoping for either a pre reg or a car due for delivery soon. As someone else has stated ive been told by a dealership that the hold up is due to a mechanical component part.

tried to get an update from Skoda chat today, the response was:
"At the moment, our order tracking system is not providing correct and accurate information on orders, consequently leaving us unable to provide an update on your order at this time."

Then I saw this on the news 😔

It sounds like they're saying "we won't start building any more cars, but we hope to finish off the ones that we have already started and clear the backlog". I hope that's the case, and I hope mine has started production. I feel sorry for everyone who is going to be waiting even longer though...

Ford are taking a novel approach - they've released versions of the Puma that have less standard kit (quite a bit of missing safety tech as well as comfort stuff), therefore use less microprocessors, therefore you can have it quicker. I guess that's one way to go if you don't care about that stuff and want/need a new car quickly.

guy on skoda chat said they have yet to receive confirmation of the above but doesnt look good. ive an unconfirmed build week in Novemeber and asked what will happen if above is the case and he wouldnt say.

If it is not on the script in front of them then they can not pass comment.

its not really to do with the lead time on the skoda as that is what it is. my lease runs out this month (of course when ordering we told october delivery) so ive extended it base on my unconfirmed build week 49. however, if this is going to be delayed even further. i think id rather end the lease as originally planned, and buy a 2nd hand with the monthly payments then sell it when the skoda arrives and get some monies back. but until i know whats happening i cant make that call annoyingly

Well it will be hard for every customer. It will simply be 'you will get it when it arrives' and when that will be can easily be somewhere in 2022 like my july order has been estimated without a precise date. It is a big mess and there is nothing the dealers or we can do about it. Poor souls those that have troubles with ending of the lease or sold their car   :s  ...

If confirmed, this is more in line with Seat's recent quote saying expect recovery after July next year as opposed to Skoda's previously reported position - situation improving towards the end of this year. Again, if confirmed, it also makes a mockery of 30 week lead times and explains all the warnings and caveats Skoda gave when accepting my new order.

It doesn't change anything much for me as I kept my car and every other manufacturer is in the same position. That is unless or until other manufactures get moving again faster than Skoda.

I wonder if the auto manufacturers are rethinking their reliance on far eastern semi-con manufacturers now?

Yes they are.

They are also looking at the types of chip that they are buying.   Currently they order very basic chips- a move to more "up to date" chips would help supply as the manufacturers don't have to focus on the older chips.

Ordered a new Sportline a couple of weeks ago, got a good deal against our current one, been advised build week 4 although I'm not expecting that to stay the same given this weeks news.

chats still saying tracker is down and to check back next week. It was down last week doesnt take two weeks for it to be fixed. Whilst chip shortage is not their fault handling of situations such as these do no good whatsoever just delaying

You're assuming that it's broken, rather than taken down intentionally due to the fact that information on it cannot be relied upon at the moment.

I'm not sure Skoda could handle this any better - they are providing as much information as they can, but they just don't know when they will be able to deliver cars because of reasons that are completely outside their control. The absolute worst thing that they could do is promise to have everyone's cars ready by a certain date, and then not meet that date... or the next date they give... and so on.

If you don't like the uncertainty or need to have a car in a certain timeframe, then unfortunately a factory order from any manufacturer probably isn't the best idea right now.

totally agree, world is in a mess not just my car with Skoda this i have no issue with. I've not questioned nor asked for false promises quite the opposite (albeit they have already saying on order hitting an oct delivery they wold have know of issues before then) for whilst i cant prove it there's a fair chance the system hasnt been down since last week and will all this week. Its clear info i would like. Had they said Skoda are currently re-processing orders and an update will be supplied etc.... this explains what is going on and transparency which in turn keeps trust. A simple its broken dont know doesn't.

Have to say I am surprised by Skoda.  They are normally one of the better car manufacturers to deal with, but my experience is the same.

Hopefully normal service will soon be resumed.
