How to remove anti-roll bar stabiliser bushing?

Featured Replies

How do you get these bushes out, you can see a nut in the picture which I assumed is welded on, but maybe it can be removed.

I already removed the 2 long bolts that hold this bracket onto the car underbody but the bush seems to be welded in, maybe you have to replace whole roll bar as one piece or do these nuts remove allowing you to replace the bush?

have you taken off the drop links from arb or shock this will give you more movement then use big flat screwdriver to wiggle bush and bracket off

Yes I've removed drop link, it does give some movement but the bush seems to be contained in the bracket there's no obvious way out .

Why dont you search on the net for anti-roll bar bushes for your octavia , that will give you a clue if its a whole bar or just bushes you need,?

if it's the same as the rear ARB they're bonded to the bar, so you can either cut them off and replace or replace the unit as a whole

So basically you need to remove the roll bar from the car first?

AJ77 or anyone?? I’m in exactly the same predicament, removed all the bolts in situ yesterday and then realised the bush bracket is welded so cannot open it on a hinge to remove the old bushes and replace with poly ones.

Does anybody have a solution please?

I was expecting this to be a 30 minute job tops!

Thank you

I never got round to doing it, it passed the MOT by replacing a drop link though its still rattling and knocking away like crazy underneath so I know it still needs done.

I assume you'll have lower the subframe by probably using a couple of jacks then replace the whole roll bar assembly or just bushes. I'm still not sure if those bush brackets are welded or just need more access to pry them apart.

A pain because it could have been a really quick job.

Might want to get a garage to do it.

Hello to anyone interested in fitting either oem or poly bushes to the front anti roll bar.

it IS possible.I found this article today on how to do it.

Cheers

Just a thought, but is it possible to remove the bolts on the bushing, knock the bushing assembly to one side, rotate and drill out the swaged section in situ to remove the brackets and bush. Reassembly would simply be a reversal of the process.

Of course, there may be a number of reasons why this can't be done (mainly room to rotate the assembly) but, if it can, it obviates the need to drop the sub frame and/or remove the ARB.

I've not looked at the arrangement closely, hence the question to those that have done the job.

I have Roomster (Same as Fabia) and tried to replace ours. The bolts remove from the welded nuts and metal cover can be removed by levering with a screwdriver, bush can then be removed from anti-roll bar.

Problem was could fit new bushes to bar but could not push clamp on. So just greased up and put old ones back on. Elsawin procedure is to strip the sub frame off and remove anti roll bar.

Talked to someone since who replaced his by using longer bolts to pull the bracket over the bushes. I haven't tried it yet.

Hope information helps.

Thanks mpm222.

My query was with the stated instructions from Powerflex (above) about drilling out the swaged section when replacing on an Octavia Mk2 and similar. If the Mk2 hasn't got the swaged fixing, then the procedure would be fine (I'd also use longer bolts initially, then remove one at a time and replace with the correct bolts). The bush assembly should be held in place long enough for the original bolts to be inserted.

If my Octy has the swaged assembly, I was wondering if the whole bush could be moved to where there was more room. If so, the bush could be rotated to drill the swaged section or the front clamp could be cut off completely. There are kits out there which supply the clamps as well as the bushes.

As I've said, I've not looked at the job closely as yet, but I'm keen to cure the clunk and rattle on mine.

Thanks again for your input!
