I'm also intrigued as to the differences between Amundsen 5Q0035874x and Bolero 5Q0035842x?

One begins with an A, other a B

And numerically 32.

Jokes aside, I am sure if we tag @pab567 he can answer you other question about coding in the parts.

  • Not too fussed about the connect devices as things go - as long as I can get to Siri and Waze through CarPlay I’ll be happy! 😂

  • Let me know your VIN on PM and I will list options you have.

  • @RobMac1, shall keep you posted! The amp  just came from a breakers - it’s a little knocked around but (apparently) tested in good working order; it’s off a Superb but they’re the same part so nothing

Parts I deliver have Components Protection switched off in HMI (there is CP error in diagnostocs but the unit works normally) so it's not required to spent any additional money to remove CP at Skoda dealer.

The difference between Amundsen 5Q0035874x and Bolero 5Q0035842x (assuming x i sthe same letter for both) are built in OEM navigation and tow more kid of gadgets in Amundsen - Offroad menu (any version) and Media Command (from version "B").

I'd really love to talk to someone that has done this work or something very similar? I'm nervous of doing it myself! 🙈

Hi, I’m doing a similar project myself.

I’ve bought a

5E0 919 606 D 9.2 screen

565 035 021 D glovebox unit

to replace my 5E0035874A

I’m wondering if I need to purchase an amp for my system to work.

So the new unit is coded/configured for Canton, does your Octavia have Canton?

Hi all,

Sorry for kicking open a dead thread again!

Thought I’d post an update regarding the unit.

It’s in now!

Removing Canton took some specialised coding from a local shop, but it’s in and has given my 2015 a major sound and visual boost!

@pab567 hi there pal I have a 2014 octavia vrs just wondering what options I have for getting CarPlay ect on my car? Cheers

@Wenny18 pls post your VIN

@pab567 TMBKK7NE4F0037819

@Wenny18 you have Amundsen MIB1 with DAB model number 5E0035874A, you must have your display and glove box unit replaced. Depending on your needs and budget you can install eith Bolero MIB2, Amundsen MIB2, Columbus MIB2 or Columbus MIB2.5 system. Unfortunately, you alse have Canton sound system so there is a need to replace power amplifier, too. For Apple CarPlay support you also need to replace USB port. If you are interested in buying such set pls contact me on PM.

Hi all, sorry if I am asking questions/raising points that were already asked/discussed.

I am the owner of an 2016 Superb without Canton/Apple Car Play/Android auto HU.

About 3 weeks ago my satnav and Bluetooth stopped working, however the rest of the HU functions(radio/DAb radio, CD, aux) are all OK.

My question is, is my Harman Audio unit faulty and how to tell for sure without going to a main dealer if this is the case?

If I am buying another MIB 2 unit(used), would it be plug and play only if the supplier part number is identical with mine?  Or any other MIB 2 units from VAG group cars would work as well?

Any ideas, suggestions, advices are more than welcome!

Thanks in advance,

Adrian

Hi @pab567

I changed my headunit from MIB1 Columbus to MIB2 Amundsen 5Q. I have Canton system with 8V0035223 amp. The headunit is swapped, need I swap the amp too? Unfortunately I have no sound with this amp. Or if the AMP will working with this HU, which settings I need? I have Skoda Octavia Mk3 2014, the VIN is TMBJD7NE4E0142512.

Thank you for the help!

Unfortunately amplfier must be swapped as well to either 81A035223 or 3Q0035466A, After installation it must have Component Protection removed.

Thanks for the answer @pab567. Above I found from your older reply, that this amp is good with this MIB2 system, but I think it was mistype or misunderstood. The CP remove is known thing for me, I only need tho buy the amp.

All of these will fit into the place correctly, or I need to buy one specified version? What is the difference between these two amps? Thanks.

Both of them will work, they are direct replacement to yours, you will need to mechanically rework the molding used for installation as the distance between screws is slightly different.

3Q0035466C or similar, but different ending amps will work also, or only the two above listed will work only?

Hi everyone!

I bought a 5E RS octavia ( tmbje9ne7f0030412 ) and I want AndroidAuto in it. The car has 8" columbus, MIB1 High equipment with Canton sound system. Can anyone help me what should I change in this case if I want to upgrade to MIB2?

I have read a lot of information and there is a lot of contradiction. Some say the 8" display needs to be replaced, some say no, the glovebox unit too, some say it should be canton compatible by default, some say all MIB2 units can be coded to be canton compatible. Plus, I'm already reading here that the amplifier is also questionable.
Someone please help!
Thanks!

Hi @hauserjoci,

I had the same situation, except my Octavia was not an RS, it is "only" Elegance, but the headunit situation was the same. The MIB1 Columbus display is perfect for you, it can stay the original if you want, I use the original MIB1 display with a MIB2.5 Amundsen unit and works well. You need to change the headunit in the glovebox and if the canton amplifier (under the drivers seat) is a specific type, you need to change to a MIB2 amp. I needed to change the BCM also, because my old one was not compatible with the facelift headunit and I had internal light issues. I found a nice guy in Hungary, who had made all the things in my car and now it is fully working.

If I'm correct, all unit is Canton compatible, the difference is only a dataset on the unit but I'm not 100% sure with this info, I'm not a professional.

There is one more (cheaper) option to have Android auto in your car, but it is not a Skoda solution (it's third party), so I don't want to post it here, write a pm and I can explain it for you.

Thanks! :)

So now you have Columbus MIB1, with Bluetooth, with DAB, without SIM, part number 5E0035020C, with USB 5Q0035726C and unfortunately you have CANTON sound system.

You can install one of four different OEM glove box units:

- MIB2 Bolero
- MIB2 Amundsen
- MIB2 Columbus
- MIB2.5 Columbus

You don't need to replace display unit unless you want to go with Columbus MIB2.5 as for MIB2.5 Columbus the only display unit that works is 5E0919606D

If you woulkd like to use Apple CarPlay then you also have to replace USB port.

Unfortunately you have to replace also CANTON power amplifier. New amplifier must be coded online by Skoda dealer or someone with ODIS ONLINE account for Skoda.

The question is what is your budget and which of listed below features are "must have":
- Video playback from DVD, USB, SD
- CD playback
- OEM navigation
- displaying OEM maps in Virtual Cluster (Active Info Display).

All units support SmartLink (Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, MirrorLink), rear view camera, voice command. features that differ them:
- MIB2 Bolero - no OEM navigation, no CD/DVD drive, no video playback from SD/USB
- MIB2 Amundsen - OEM navigation, no CD/DVD drive, no video playback from SD/USB, support for displaying OEM maps in Active Info Display (Virtual Cluster)
- MIB2 Columbus - OEM navigation, CD/DVD drive, video playback from SD/USB, no support for displaying OEM maps in Active Info Display (Virtual Cluster)
- MIB2.5 Columbus - OEM navigation, CD/DVD drive, video playback from SD/USB, support for displaying OEM maps in Active Info Display (Virtual Cluster)

Thank you very much for the detailed description!
I actually use my phone for everything, music, navigation, so I don't really need them if it knows Android auto. It's completely enough for me.
Would the virtual cluster be the fully digital dashboard or the color display in the middle? However, I would like the central color display to work. By the way, does this also work with androidauto (googlemaps) navigation, or only work with OEM?
