Sat Nav memory

Featured Replies

Post code plus house/building number will be spot on, without the latter it would probably default to the centre of the area covered.

I would be very happy for my Shatnav to get me to the correct road but not the right house because I share my postcode with 12140 other dwellings  and anywhere I search for is the same deal.

I always thought post codes in the uk were spot on?

With very few exceptions they are. My Octavia refuses to take me to known good postcodes and misdirects me to others. Most recent was 8 miles away from the Arla dairy in Aylesbury I'd selected when it thought that postcode was the other side of the town. I don't trust any aspect of the car now.

Stop making excuses for another rotten Skoda system that everyone else has implemented successfully. Yes some postcodes do cover large areas but these are usually in rural locations and the only one I visit is an ex RAF airfield. It is without doubt the worst sat nav I've ever used and can't be trusted. The Columbus in my Superb had its weaknesses but at least you could trust it to take you to whatever postcode was entered. Fortunately this is a company car but why anyone would knowingly pay money for such a dreadful product is beyond me.

If you care to re-read my post you will see that I was not 'making excuses' for the system but merely pointing out that postcodes relate to areas rather than exact locations and trying to offer some possible insight into the satnavs failings.

Interesting - if you look at the Arla website, for their Aylesbury site, they actually tell you to use a different postcode if using a SatNav.

The worst sat nav I had was on a Kia car, mind you the last car I have just got rid of was not far behind the Kia car.volvo v60.

Ok so we all have the Sat nav doesn't save our home address or other point of interest. Even with SW 1803 on a D unit my home wont save.

I have noticed though, that all the destinations i have asked Laura to plot for me are saved. It has also saved regular destinations such as Tesco etc.

So tomorrow i will ask Laura directions to my address. That way it should save and i can then use that when away from home. Some may say , just use Google etc. I have to say i like the sat nav in the Octy and the congestion on roads has been real to life on most occasions. The best bit is when Laura comes on and says that there is congestion ahead without plotting a destination. Don't think Google does that.

Hopefully SKODA will get this sorted as i have no problems other than that with SW 1803.

I’ve had my 21 plate Octavia for two months now and the sat nav is driving me crazy. I keep saving my home address but every time I turn the ignition off it disappears. The system is overall very good, and as an SE L model the map that appears in the instrument binnacle is excellent, but why won’t it save my home address or indeed any favourites that I save? It’s maddening.

I assume it's a Colombus unit. When you say it won't save your home address do you mean:

1) To the 'Home' location that is a specific address asked for by the system at initial set up

2) An address that has been stored in 'favourites' perhaps with the name Home or House.

3) Your home address that just appears in the list of recently visited locations?

If it loses all three at switch off then its clearly faulty and you need to be demanding a dealer fix.

Its failings are obvious and need no insight. Every previous system provide grid coordinates  when asked in order to provide your exact location if assistance is required, not by default.

It's not just the Arla dairy, it seems so be a number of postcodes in that area. In 2021 this shouldn't be happening and if my 2016 Superb was able to navigate to Arla there's no reason my 2021 Octavia shouldn't but hey, at least two days ago it was working, now the entire infotainment system refuses to work.

Anyone got an update about this satnav not saving anything. My Octavia iv was working fine then one day started loosing all it's destinations. Software 1804.

Dealer seams to push it back to Skoda, saying they know about the problem.

I’m still waiting for a fix. I’d been told Q3 this year, so potentially 15 months after I took delivery of the car, but recently the dealer told me a factory fix was coming by the end of June. It’s really disappointing, but just one of a few glitches I’m experiencing with my mark 4 Octavia.

Thanks for he update. Here's hoping it comes soon.

I drove quite a few new cars before my Octavia was delivered and all of them had pretty naff sat navs compared to Google Maps. I haven’t used the Skoda sat nav yet as Google maps on my phone works brilliantly and has excellent mapping. All the inbuilt ones I’ve tried are like some sort of computer programme from the 1990’s. 😂😂

Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it. And by that I mean try it enough to become familiar with else its not a fair comparison.

Although the sat nav doesnt remember your home or other saved settings , i find it better than Google for showing traffic jams and alerting me to traffic.  I hope my new Tucson does the same .

I used it along with TomTom on my phone, the car makes bizzar route suggestions and does not know some roads exists, I was on a B road that goes directly home (about 3 miles) and the car wanted me to join the motorway and add 15 miles to a 3 mile journey and add abot 15 minutes.... it is in my opinion a waste of time compared to Waze, Google Maps and Tomtom. I for one would never trust the car routing.

Agreed Waze & Google maps are way better. But I don't know if Iv'e read this or assumed it but as my car is a hybrid, I assume that if the car knows where it's going it can then decide when and where to use the petrol or the battery. If it knows it's about to hit traffic or go on a motorway it can manage the battery better. It sounds logical. If that is the case then using waze and google won't help it? That's why I want to use it rather then Google. Anyone know if that is true?

The satnav in our Octy iV is the best I've ever used. Very easy to set up and I like the map display on the virtual instrument panel. In town, a bridge closes at weekends and even if the satnav is off I get a 'restricted access' voice warning. The voice activation is also good: for example say 'Morrisons Berwick' and it immediately shows a route.

A bit of security advice, don't put your home address into your sat nav memory, put a street in your locality instead.

That way any thieves who may get into your car, won't have a precise location for the keys should they access the system. They will look elsewhere.

That's good advice. There's a policeman who lives up the street that is built like Mike Tyson. Maybe his address would be ideal as an alternative.
