Need a rear light Unit following breakage

Featured Replies

Hi

Wanted a bit of clarity if I can, my car was hit this evening whilst parked when a car was backing out a parking space.  The only damage is literally the lens cover right on the corner of the car at the back.  The actual vehicle did not touch mine it was his spare wheel that was attached to the boot door (land rover style).  Only caught the driver as it was 10 seconds after parking and he tried to drive away.

The car is that clear that the dirt has not even been touched so fairly confident and happy that it is just the light.  Image attached.

I did take it to my friendly mechanic who confirmed just the light the car is fine.  Now they were just closing so did not check any prices but they had no idea how much a light would be.  Looking online I have noticed the following:

https://www.onlinecarparts.co.uk/hella-13648353.html

Is this the light I need?  It mentions LED but was convinced that mine was none LED but then I know nothing about cars.

Car is an L&K 2016 Plate.

The reason I am thinking this is what with the Excess I am considering just telling my insurers tomorrow "for notification purposes only" and paying for the replacement.

Would welcome thoughts?

Thanks

Paul

Don’t tell your insurance if your doing your repair your self they will still record it as an accident

So the one you have found is for the newer models iV which have full LED units, you need a non facelift so 2015-2019 which is mostly led except for indicator and reverse

if I was you, I’d personally get one second hand from either eBay or Synter have a lot of stock it seems.

It's easy to remove the light cluster, instructions are in the handbook. Then you'll be able to read the part number off it. With any luck, you'll find one by searching for that on Ebay.

Very lucky there was no other damage and well done stopping the culprit.

That link is not a facelift taillight - it's the pre-facelift taillight found from MY15 to MY19.

It's the correct taillight for @pentaxian.

The LED refers to the light strip that goes around the outer edge - see pic below.

The reverse and indicator globes r normal halogen bulbs.

Personally I’d ring Skoda to get a price then make the other car owner pay for it.

Make a quick document to say something like on this time&day bla hit my vehicle, bought a replacement light and consider the matter closed so no insurance. Both sign a copy and job done.

You should not be out of pocket unless you were in the wrong when you parked

Think this is the one….

Here

Had a similar issue with my Octavia. Got a rear cluster from Euro Car Parts. Just checked and £126 for a 16 plate superb.

Oh yeah and another vote for not not notifying the insurance company.

I reported a clipped wing mirror to my insurer, just cracked glass on my vehicle, in case the other party reported it and I got in trouble.

No contact was made with the other driver, all costs paid for by myself, and insurance premiums increased due to an accident🤬

Don't report it would be my advice.

I completely agree with you, but the photo i think is a stock photo and not of the actual one as in the description it has the following

Light Function: with indicator (LED), with brake light (LED), with reverse light (LED), with taillight (LED)

It's misleading, yes, but the part number (3V5 945 207) is correct for a pre-facelift, and have a look at the "Suitable Cars" list.

The seller has incorrectly assumed the indicator and reverse lights r LED.

Do a Google search on that part number.....

I've had a broken rear light since just after I got the car in 2019 when my wife reversed into an overhanging windowsill. Last time it went in for a service I asked how much it would cost to replace, IIRC the answer was £270 😞

When I asked why I was told it wasn't just the cost of the replacement, it was the fact that the entire tailgate had to be stripped out to replace it. Nice one Skoda...

So, this is the correct one... 🙄

Yes, that is correct for a Hatch/Sedan/Liftback.
