the truth about electric cars

Parkway House, used to be Customs, but is now, like so many office blocks, been converted into flats. Yes, the marshes will certainly be permanently flooded if sea level rises, there is a lot of cliff erosion happening in Suffolk and Norfolk with some houses that used to be well away from the cliff edge, now crashing into the sea.

The West is rising whilst the East sinks.

Think it is all the oil and gas being removed from under the North Sea and the UK sliding in to the void.

Became tired of dogging?

I cant think of the last time that I saw a road around where I live be it here or in Picardie that wasnt fire damaged.

A close friend was burgled two weeks ago, she and her visiting family were sleeping in the house, she was in the adjacent ground floor room, they will almost certainly have looked in there, they took the car keys and her fairly new Renault on leaving, she lost her husband only a few months ago so you can imagine it hit her very hard.

Car was found burnt out a couple of days later less than 5k away, it looks like they had hit a bank and damaged the suspension and front wheel before torching it.

The Gendarmes arrested the thief last week, they told her his name and that he was from a certain community that doesastheylikey 😒, both things unlikely to happen in modern Britain, I reckon he lives within 1km of me, I will check at the Mairie.

Oh my gosh, that is so terrible, I feel for your friend, but what you describe does not sound like joyriding to me, it was a thing that teenagers did through boredom, never used to break into houses, they just used screwdrivers etc to break door locks etc on cars and race around in the middle of the night in the cars, often crashing them, but always torching them before disappearing into the night. As to the roads being fire damaged there, is testament to the torching of cars. Both the locations you have shown as your location are both in France, aren't they?

Good thing about owning Skodas, and Renaults, much less desirable than the Audis, BMW and Mercs.

Neighbour across the road had his M3 nicked by robbers breaking in, whilst he and missus were sleeping.

Just horrible living in fear of this.

Have a Q car. Superb with the 280 hp 4 wheel drive. Octavia VRSs can be fun but less on the nick list I would have thought than a Golf GTI.

Need more EVs with Sentry mode like Teslas, even better with electroshock or the like.

It won't be long before Skoda's will on the desirable list, for years they used to be the joke of car industry, then they became on the best kept secrets as they improved their image massively, now they are very common on the UK roads and the superb has had its profile raised considerably by the police forces using them, sometimes as undercover cars, but I have seen them also being used as traffic cars.

I did not claim that it was joyriding.

Allow me to have a go. Chelmsford Essex, would that be in Essex?

Maybe it's just the Essex boys popping to the east of London then who fancy a joyride in the county of Essex 🤷 Southend is at number 10. @toot is safe enough.

Very rare when traveling to the ferry at Harwich not to see a burned out vehicle on the A12 ;)

Thanks for this, the only one in that list that is still in Essex, is Southend-on-Sea, Romford and Ilford became part of London way back in 1965.

I'm aware of that which is why I said maybe it's the Essex boys popping to the east of London 🙄

LAMO here, yes indeed, Chelmsford is in Essex, never implied otherwise, I only asked about France because of the way you phrased your reply "where I live be it here or in Picardie" and when I looked at your details you simply say "Location: Bergerac France, sometimes Picardie." and I was just seeking to clarify if Picardie was in France or if it was some small English village, that was all, sorry if you took it to mean something else. 🙄

Well you might be right, but I don't care, I still stand by my earlier claim that it was not just an Essex thing, it was UK wide.

I worked in Hainault, sounds French and was a fiefdom on the Belgian France border, but is Ilford postcode. Through Epping forest and the latest crop of fresh graves from the latest underworld killings.

Do not miss that drive and have not been to Tilbury in months. They do have an EV charge point as a plus.

He struck me as a Scally, and i do not believe he had ever heard that term before.

Are the council not losing money on the e-Scooter trials.

You can be sure that Porsche will not let you burn to death.

Call them and they will tell you to get out of the car, and if it does not go on fire get back in and pop round and see them.

No hurry, just when ever suits, maybe in a week or 3.

His car L88 DVY was first registered in October 2021.  MY22, So not built in 2022.  But no matter, a recall is a recall.

'Certain cars are being recalled'.    So his headline is 'My EV is being recalled as it is a EV hazard so i drove....

So he purchased it on the finance and he can hand it back.    Scally! Everything said needs taken with a pinch of salt.

PS

I had to laugh at the comment on MINI Cooper S,s. (They were SE until recently)   What does S mean anyway these days.  Sizzle maybe with the EV.

Now a Taycan Turbo S  is a p1ss take of the use os 'Turbo'.

PPS

Is it really Illegal in the UK to wear Flip Flops when driving as long as you have control of the vehicle?

Just saying a load of rubbish as though it is fact is not illegal & can earn you money as you have an audience.

Yep, if it were my car being recalled, I'd take it to the garage now, not later or when it suited 👍

The end of mass ICE vehicles in sight.  Soon to be the minority of sales.

Would be difficult to run as petrol station vastly reduce in number, parts to fix and service them.

@lol-lolthat is ICE CARS he is talking about not 'Mass ICE vehicles.'

Indeed. Are not commercial vehicles even stronger case to move over even quicker as we see by DPD and other parcel and goods carriers.

In logistics were are asked for most movements by many customers what the co2 is per kilo or tonne of delivered goods.

Bringing goods from Heathrow airport to the various freight forwarders using ice is a financial disadvantage in the ULEZ zone.

Bigger trucks also now being sourced as EV.

I think that trucks will take a lot longer to switch over because of the incremental costs incurred. The obvious choice would be to use the rail network to move goods to their final distribution depot and then transferring them to the likes of DPD etc for the so-called final mile. This will not happen in many places because of the cuts made by Richard Beeching in the 1960s which saw many railway lines dismantled, and goods yards closed and redeveloped, and the goods transferred to ICD powered lorries, even the mail took up large fleets of trucks carrying the mail which used to be done by trains.

How few Petrol & Diesel Vehicles have to be left on UK roads before there are no filling stations?

When does there actually come a time when car parts are not available to maintain ICE vehicles in the UK or the rest of the world?

Much of the Youtube stuff is becoming ridiculous from those making a living producing pure guff pro and anti EV.

Mostly telling what others said about the future and their predictions & guesses and just general nonsense.

*30 pence a kWh for him on Ionity with the Porsche card.*

78.93 kWh for £23.68.

If you gets 3.5 miles a kWh that is 276.5 miles.

If he was in a Porsche ICE getting 45 mpg that would be 6 gallons ish.   27.7 litres.

If £1.46 a litre £40.00.

Surely he is a Business user for Tax Purposes and the EV vehicle is a tool of the trade for the utter tool.

What, a Porsche ICE giving 45mpg, is that even remotely possible?

Well yes it is with a Hybrid or a Diesel or driving with care.

Maybe a Panamera E-Hybrid whuch seems popular up in the Oil Capital of the UK.

If he wanted an ICE Porsche and visits a dealer today i am sure they will take back his rented car and rent him another.

He could then maybe tell us the difference as a business user the annual cost to him.

What he plays at is when the charging is at the cheapest he brims it.

If he was running just between going down to 10 % and filling up to 90 % with the he would be doing well.  80% use.

There are 93 kWh or 79.2 kWh usable. so since he got in 78.9 kWh i take it he has the big battery.  But one should never assume.

If the current projection of EV adoption at not only sales but miles driven, and not just by private cars but commercial vehicles then petrol stations that just sell hydrocarbon fuel and not EV charging are bound to struggle to survive with a rapidly decreasing clientele.

One can imagine diesel and petrol will be in the same situation as LPG is now.  This is going to in the early part of the next decade but seeing closed up petrol stations is bound to be an increasingly common site.  I hope many can adapt and have EV charging on the same site, but well separated as the two types of filling should be a very good distance a part and of course an expansion to the hot drinks etc facilities as EV, this decade, take a few minutes longer to get a charge say 20% to 70%, less so with income Li Fe Po4 technology batteries.

Even if there are lots of ICE cars registered they will only get used for weekend jollies as EVs will, and are already, so much cheaper to use mile per mile so as we see EVs will be doing, on average, thousands of miles to use the Russian/Saudi etc go go juice.  Saudi just confirmed that the million barrel a day cut is planned to be implemented to the end of the year at least which is driving Brent and WTI crude to $100 a barrel.  Electricity should be getting cheaper and cheaper as more and more country to country interconnectivity and more wind coming on line from the North Sea.

As we know ICE cars are very complex with hundreds of specialist parts, air filters, bearings, con rods, piston rings, oil and water pumps, thermostats etc.  What should be a simple periodic replacement of thermostat and water pump on my Fabia diesel, last year, costs £750 as there is so much work plus the parts and even then with the car doing 70 mpg plus it is still nowhere near as cheap to run as my Zoe EV.  It will just be uneconomic to keep these vehicles on the road unless one does it as a hobby as they will not be an economic choice.

What will be will be.

Time to look back on things in a decade.
