the truth about electric cars

Only a mother could love the looks of a mark one Superb.  I heard the mark one was a 100 mm stretched Passat which it felt like they did without bothering to retune suspension.

Passats and Superb are useful and almost the go to car for the freakishly tall.  Potential son in laws brother is 6'10 I gather and his choice was limited to Passat, Superb or Chrysler 300.

After that one excursion of owning a Superb went back to Octavia which I thought ticked boxes for size of car in the boot and cabin and meant I did not have to take the hit on acceleration and fuel consumption over the Octavia but always was jealous they got the 280 hp 4 wheel drive model which is the only Superb I would give a second look to.

I love soft suspension, it forms part of the luxury for me, I hate to be shaken up when going over normal roads, the Passat was up to the introduction of the Superb the go to car for me but on long trips, that could be tiring due to the lack of space. The Chrysler 300 was always out of my grasp as a company car user as it was marketed as being an equivalent to the more upmarket cars like Mercedes-Benz, Jaguars, BMW's etc. Interestingly, the 300 used a Mercedes-Benz E class (W211) class floorpan.

Does not need to be 48V, Arkana is all 12V including hybrid.

I gather TESLA have decided to go for 48V for all of the auto systems, wow that is a going your own way !

True, the Nissan Qashai is only 12V, and the real reason for Telsa opting to go with 48V is to reduce the amount of copper needed for the cars wiring as they can understand that we are using loads of copper in EV cars which puts a strain on the available amounts of copper and also of course, it also allows them to make weight savings as the cables can be a lot thinner as a result.

I mentioned this yesterday.

No need to rush to electric vehicles then. The tories have decided they're going to turn the UK into the dirty man of Europe.

Well, that is interesting, my car in ECO mode will coast for very long periods and is in fact how I drive it most of the time with a light touch of the brakes to re-engage the transmission to get engine braking at junctions etc with a further light touch of the brakes to come to a halt as bus drivers have been taught how to, in order to treat passengers as if they were eggs. So that, according to you, makes my car into a mild hybrid? In fact, any vehicle is capable of coasting by dipping the clutch or slipping into neutral.

There are in fact for more polluting things that should and could be tackled before attacking the car, but that won't happen because it involves authorities investing huge sums of money, but charging the public money for driving in low emission zones, and making the public purchase hybrids or EV's will produce an income stream for them. I wonder just how many would drive an EV if the actual mining of the rare metals was done over here in their backyards with all massive toxic lagoons etc, with the real potential of making water dangerous to drink.

They are tying themselves in knots trying to get policy to fit in with the new "global boiling" narrative and the real world. 😄

(Apparently "global warming" wasn't scary enough.)

Life gets very complicated when you have to try and frame reality to fit your political agenda, instead of vice-versa.

Good job this is a "crisis" that can be kicked down the road for 5 years.

Rishi is going to help those already with EV,s and that need to public charge by not having too many new EV,s compared to the Infrastructure for charging and the pathetic power generation and transmission that the National Grid can supply.

'Simply clever' from the PM who has just made him a laughing stock among other leaders, like those in the US today.

Scotland's First Minister has been there.  He just makes himself the laughing stock by opening his mouth.  Has a country to lead with plenty energy though.

I thought, ironically, this brings us into line with the eu. Isn’t their new build ban date already 2035 ?

I think you are all being hard on Richie, he has just upped the heat pump UK government subsidy up from £5k to £7.5k, wow.

I can upgrade my heating system, pay even less on my monthly energy bills, and the UK government, ie you the other tax payers, are going to pay for it, and the value of that system just goes on to the overall value of house.  Winner, winner chicken dinner.

Those of us with big detached house can slip that noisy air heat pump great big thingamabob down the side part of the house, that bit we rarely go, keep the odd ladder and let tradesmen in rather than come through the front door.

Thank you PM, and (wooden) cabinet for giving the already well oiled a way of adding thousands to house value and cutting energy bills all with UK government money, I will raise a glass if PIMMS or maybe a brandy tonight.  God knows where UK Gov getting the money from, suppose money that could have gone to the NHS or something but hey ho, cheers boys !

I have not heard a single National Broadcaster or Expert or Politician mention that before Boris changed it to 2030 there was Nicola Sturgeon reported to be saying she was going with 2032 while Boris was still at 2035.

2017.

After Brexit.

Karl McCartney MP on the telly now.  'Not enough electricity in this country'.     That country being England.

This is about England for the PM / Tories.

His constituents seemingly can not afford £60,000 - £70,000 for an EV and they are certainly not buying 2nd hand.

The Oil & Gas licences have been granted by Westminster.

All academic.  The car makers will only produce hybrids and EVs by 2030, even if they are luke warm ones like my Arkana.

Rishi speech at 1630 today was so little boy lost.  Who has his ear ? Must be a bit of the Express, Mail and Telegraph and a bit of GB News and Talk Radio thrown in to as it was a mishmash of directionless pandering which did a fantastic job of saying something to **** off just about everybody.  Talk about an own goal.  Keep it up Rishi.

Even though I just fitted a new gas boiler might get one of those heat pumps as well so I can have the choice of which system to use depending on the price of electricity and gas at any time, nice.   Octopus was doing one for free, under certain circumstances, at £5k subsidy, what can I get for £7.5k bung ?

Maybe have downstairs on the heat pump and upstairs on the gas boiler.  The choices.  Ten years of subsidising electric cars and home charging points and now massive subsidies for home heating, they really are the people who just cannot stop giving, where do they get all the money from I wonder ?

What is academic?

England has not got the Nuclear or the renewables and needs gas for generating your electric for your heat pumps.

So really up the creak, the poo creak.

Boris, Jacob, Michael, Iain and others backed Rolls Royce to be building the new source of local energy.

Maybe the PM,s family have as well.

Lots of work for Heat Pump Installers, EV Charger Installers, and maybe other trades.  Time to get them employed and trained then.

Maybe a few migrant workers are just what the UK needs.

Train those that got across the channel without a ticket or even a passport.

The Scottish First Minister bounced the Westminster PM into bettering her.

All i am saying is there are lots of people out there commenting that know Jack Sh!t and get paid for speaking or writting.

It makes a mockery of what they said in 2019 and what they were voted in on "We will lead the global fight against climate change by delivering on our world-leading target of Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, as advised by the independent Committee on Climate Change".
I think the car industry will dictate what vehicles are for sale in the UK. Maybe import some new old stock even that's been sat in a field somewhere for a couple of years.
All announced in what amounted to a party political broadcast before mentioning it in Parliament as is convention and after Parliament has risen for a two week jolly. Apparently Lindsey Hoyle is livid.

But we just got a new extension lead over to Denmark.  !!

Think I am going to get me some more batteries to use all that lovely cheap overnight lecky.  It is not that England is short of lecky it is just they want it at certain peak times ie tea time and brecky/work start.

Nice the Grid is going to pay me to not use it for at least a dozen tea times during the winter.  Many pounds to harvest there.  Think it was about a ten to one ratio last winter during the Octopus pay back system.  Just need to make sure I use loads the other tea times so it looks like I am saving loads when they tell me of the time they want me to save.

At only 29p per kWh should not be too hard.  I see we are pulling 33 GW currently.  Who has wimped out and put their heating on today ??

Sunak never said it, that was a couple of PMs ago !

The Tories saw that ulez effect at the last by-election and that’s the straw they’ve grabbed.

Back in 2019 there was the millionaire Chancellor that started his business life selling Fords that he got at much cheapness.

There was the not so Iron Lady in charge at that time.

She was going to make the UK the world leader in EV Technology.

It was a tory party pledge in their manifesto no matter who said it.

Boris was all for ULEZ as well until someone else continued with it. He was all for the EU as well at one point.

It's hard to believe a word they say. If they told me today is a Wednesday I'd have get confirmation from a reliable source ;)

Boris was PM in November 2020?

Shapps and Sharma made the statement about 2030

It's called irony.

Do not know if I will go for a heat pump but it is compelling when uk government are stumping up so much of the dosh and from where ?

They going to borrow even more money when essential services chronically need the money ?

@Stonekeeper  Sorry, but your research or memory is wrong.  Boris tried to called an election.  He was PM July 2019.
