That's certainly going to add up 😬, any idea about how much I can push the profile of the tyres before rubbing becomes an issue?

Yep.......& no idea....

 

Also you have to factor in that raising the suspension height & changing the tyres for bigger diameter spec ones (even if to factory options for your car), alter the original spec of the car & thus the insurance value...so you should legally inform them also...

As these springs are quite a bit firmer than standard, the 15mm extra ground clearance could be more like 30mm in use, as the suspension won't compress as much when driving over bumps in the road.

 

Stick to the standard 205/55R16 tyre size for now. They are much cheaper than Scout sizes.

By the time you have done all that and if you source the parts from Autodoc etc. You will be looking at around £1000ish for the parts and labour of you don't fit them yourself. However if you are going off road and down tracks I would get a car with increased ride height as standard and made for that purpose. 

Once you start altering your car from base you will lose value in the resale. Plus if the car is on pcp/hp/cs then you have to get permission from the finance company to modify it. I know normally they don't but they can ask to inspect the vehicle. 

Personally having been on your position I just changed my car to one more suited.

Measure the roof height or the wheelarch height if you can get the figures (I have them for my Yeti), you may simply find that the springs are shot and its dragging its ar5e like a dog with worms.

 

I have found that fitting the uprated "rough road" spec springs raises the unladen ride height much more than 15mm due to the higher rate, the Octavia 2 on standard tyres stood much taller at the rear than an Octavia Scout, it was great for me because I carried lots of loads but the new owner complained that it looked like a 70's dragster.

 

If the OP's springs have sagged he may well have sh@gged dampers as well, those two are the only combination that I can see which would make someone feel they would need to raise a standard vehicle driving on urban roads.

 

The short term answer is to drive slower over speed humps, good practice for the future also.

Having just moved from the edge of Exmoor I can say from personal experience that there are some VERY large ridges and hollows on some Exmoor roads, having said that I never had any problems with either a 1.4TSI Octavia 3 Estate or a Toyota Aygo.

I'd be tempted to change to a more suitable vehicle rather than begin to make modifications. Although you may get the ride height most vehicles struggle off road due to toad tyres and  the lack of 4x4 which is a significant factor too. The modifications may also require an insurance notification and resale values may be an issue especially when you say it was modified to take it off road.

Have you considered something like the Dacia Duster 4x4 ... they have a good reputation for off road abilities ?

I find that my Mk2 Octavia (2010, 2.0ltr TDI estate) rests on its bump stops with family gear( pram and 2 small suitcases) before ive got into the back to sit next to toddler. A recent trip to wales forest holiday proved almost impossible to not to bottom out and scrap with just two adults and baby on board.. I wanted to see if was possible to create a skoda version of Audis 'all road'.. my car is only FWD but its ground clearance that needs attention. 

 

So i purchased from Autodoc the following items:. longer stiffer springs and longer gas shocks, plus nee bump stops to replace the existing detroyed ones.

it all came to £151 delivered and arrived within a week. 

I usually use GSF /Eurocarparts etc, but they were more pricy and i had to just have the generic standard  versions what they had. 

 

I am not a mechanic and used to do diy car stuff in my 20s, 30 years ago.. still i watched 4 youtube videos and found it straight forward to first remove the suspension arm at the hub end.. the shock just drops out.. no need for the usual compression tool.. then undid the lower shock mount (with the spring out of the way much easier to access) then just the two 16mm upper mounting bolts. All the bolts are galvanised (or similarly coated) so no rusted fixings to deal with. 

all in all it took about 3 hours to do..working methodically. 

The car is transformed.. sits much higher at the back (the front was always a bit high, compared to the back) 

I expect it to settle down with use, and i will need to adjust the headlight aim, especially until i raise the front up with new springs, next on the list) 

My plan then is to fit taller, higher aspect tyres, the current 225/40/18, could goto 45 with a chunkier tread to help the all road looks and fill the arches slightly more. 

it rides well too, none of the pitching on hard acceleration as before.

Iam now trying to figure which front springs to fit to raise the front to achieve the intended raised 'allroad' look. Do you have any suggestions available from Autodoc? 

so far ive been trying to figure out if 4x4 scout front springs will fit 2wd struts..

1K0411105DL increased ride height front springs will match the 1K0511115CR increased ride height rear springs on the Octavia MK2 2.0TDI 2WD estate.

 

In the Skoda parts catalogue, 1K0411105DL front springs are shown as build code L61. Therefore, 1K0413031BL are the matching front shock absorbers, and 1K0412303G are the matching bump stops. The Meyle bump stop on autodoc shows a 25mm inner diameter. Check that this 25mm inner diameter will be compatible with the aftermarket front shock absorbers, as the aftermarket front shock absorbers might not be the same specification as OEM.

 

On autodoc, most of the aftermarket front shock absorbers that are sold to replace 1K0413031BL have a 22mm piston road diameter (aka stanchion tube diameter). However, the OEM  1K0413031BL has a 25mm piston rod diameter.

 

Do your front shock absorber have a 50mm or 55mm strut diameter (where they are clamped)? I suspect 50mm.

 

I suspect most of the aftermarket front shock absorbers that are sold to replace 1K0413031BL are a poor match, eg. 22mm piston rod diameter instead of 25mm. This is the problem with trying to find good matching aftermarket increased ride height shock absorbers. As the market tends to be aimed at the high selling volume standard ride height shock absorbers. For this reason, its often better to use OEM increased ride height shock absorbers although there would be an associated increased cost compared to the aftermarket.

Ive finally added the uprated front springs to match my rears and yesterday fitted 17” alloys with slightly taller tyres, going to 225/50/17 (standard is 225/45/17)

the result hopefully can be clearly seen in my photo.

i paid for the front springs, top mounts and new longer bumpstops to be fitted, as the car was already in for a new turbo.

the result of this raised setup is a much more compliant car to drive, potholes are no longer the crashing experience. I reused the existing front struts after the first set were the incorrect size so were sent back.

The taller aspect ratio was too help fill out the arches, 55 was a set to far and looked like it would have fowled the front arches. 
if people are interested i can measure the  new arch gaps and ride height as well as list the part’s installed (parts now added, autodoc part numbers, in the 2nd list the shocks absorber was the wrong size and was 50mm not 55mm as needed)
