New Clutch cost

Featured Replies

Just in case anyone is interested. I need a new clutch and possible DMF on my 2015 Scout. My local independent is quoting between £1200 to £1500 depending on the scope of work.

The local Skoda dealer wants £2300 for clutch and DMF.

just for info.

Jaysus!!!!!! - The parts to do mine, a LUK 3 piece clutch kit with DMF came to €320 = £266 delivered, 4 hours labour for an experienced person with a vehicle lift, longer for me first time round in a tiny confined pit, aside from the weight of the gearbox & transfer box (68kg) it was a lengthy but not difficult job.

That’s fine if you have the equipment, room to do it and the experience. Unfortunately I don’t, so am more than happy saving £1000 by going to my trusted regular indie.

If you haven't already, check with other garages for a quote (I can recommend Midland VW)

There are a couple of variations of clutch for these, but from memory the LUK stuff is around £400-420 (Clutch, CSC & DMF for Manual box) from my usual place.

Obviously product costs will differ by garage, but even at £500 for parts £700-1000 in labour is expensive for a normal garage.

I had none of them, I bought an engine support bar, I could have DIY'd something but it was cheap for the weight and complexity and that sort of thing always comes in usefull one day, I had to buy a clutch centering tool because the one I made as an apprentice was in the UK as were all my proper mechanics tools, torque wrenches etc, I used the Bahco socket & spanner set that I carry in the boot, I bought a wobble drive set as a precaution.

The pit was nowhere near big enough and I fitted lighting to it to repay my friend for the use of it, I used the aluminium platforms of my small decorators platform to bridge the pit to lower te gearbox onto using ratchet straps.

The job would have been much quicker using my mechanics tools,(they were in the UK)  a vehicle lift and a transmission jack, on the basis of what you are happy to pay I could make £250 per hour and 30% margin on the parts and that is as a totally inexperienced person having done the job one time only and on no other FWD vehicles since Minis and 1100's 45 years ago.

I can't understand why you think you are saving £1000, I had read it as saying you are happy to pay £1000 labour (and some) to the independant, if Skoda had wanted £3500 would you think you had saved £2K?

Had my clutch replaced by an independent Skoda mechanic for £440 labour. I supplied all parts, including new cylinders etc. Replaced everything.

Checked out this thread before having the clutch on my 2007 Octy replaced, and to update on costs my usual specialist charged £940 for clutch, DMF, master and slave cylinders.

If you're paying a garage, that's probably about as good it gets. £80 to 100 per hour plus vat. 5.5hr scheduled time. Can always take longer if bolts stripped or flywheel locked. That Is over £550 labour, then parts on top which differs a bit depending on exact model and if your doing slave etc. (Recommended)..
