cost of replacing lost key/fob

Featured Replies

Unfortunately seem to have lost my car fob in local shopping centre - after hunting around and checking various lost properties I had to concede I was

going to have to buy a replacement for my 2022 Skoda Superb.  Well I had heard someone talk about a lost fob costing 300 and when I checked with the

dealer it was 314 BUT you then pay 69 to have it programmed.  I am also worried as it has not been handed it I will pay another 69 to have the spare one

reprogrammed so that the old one is redundant.  Takes at least 3/4 weeks to get one from Czech apparently (most of the cost it appears is laser cutting the

actual key that hides inside the fob)

So everyone please take firm grip on your keys !!

Have you checked with the local Police Station as the key may be handed in there if someone found it?

It's probably a long shot, but it may be worth an entry on somewhere like nextdoor and offering a decent reward, say £50, as that's a lot less than paying for a new key!  Make sure you don't disclose your address though, otherwise you may lose your car as well as your key!

For my mk2  I purchased a compatible blank (using part number to match the frequency) and then got my mechanic to program it to the car. Not sure if he used odis or vag or whatever but it's the proper system I believe.

The blank would then just need cutting, but about £10 for the blank, maybe same again for cutting and whatever cost to program.

Don't put your address on the advert, the finder might pop round to see if the key works!🤔

You might find that your car or house insurance covers you for lost keys.

do you really need another key ?, you should have got 3 keys with the car, for most people 2 keys are enough

just checked the superb brochure and sel, sportline plus and l&k all come with 3 keys as standard,  the se however only comes with 2 keys

a 3rd key for the se is an optional extra at only £35, not sure which model you have but guessing it must be an se

its a lease    i think the se technology perhaps   but interesting thanks   the 35 looks cheap now and should be a recommendation

based on this !! -- thanks for the info

I am collecting a new to me MkIII Superb next week from a Skoda dealer and was told that it comes with 2 keys as the third key is an option when ordering the car at the build stage - at that point it is 35 quid. I asked how much to get a third key made and....wait for it.....sit down....450 quid. If I hadn't been sitting down I would have fallen over. I know people will say two keys are enough but for practicality I would prefer a third and has anyone one had a key made and coded for less than that? I know I could trawl Google but I am hoping some kind and knowledgable person might have prior knowledge. TIA.

Try your local branch of Timpson's. AFAIK, certain branches are able to cut and code replacement keys.

Thanks for the suggestion but they won't do KESSY but will supply older keys.
