Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone has bought and replaced there air quality sensor as my air conditioning has failed. My mechanic has plugged it in and is telling me this is the problem

You need to find yourself a new mechanic that is competent and is able to diagnose a fault rather than look at a fault code and replace the part it mentions.

 

The air quality sensor is exactly that, it allows the car to automatically control air re-circulation. If a highly contaminated atmosphere is detected it turns on recirc, simple as that. Yes they are common to fail, No you would never notice a difference if it was working or not.

 

And 100% NO it is not the cause of the air conditioning not working. 

 

Sorry for being incredibly blunt with you (not about you) but as a diagnostic mechanic myself I am sick of seeing shoddy work carried out by others that rips people off and even worse doesnt fix the issues. Ive had many customers come to me after garages have charged them huge sums of money to not fix the issue and then end up coming to me to get it fixed properly.

Hi I, can see you are also in Brum, I used midland VW in Norton Caine's recently if you are in the north of the region.

fWIW, my air quality sensor also throws an error, but the air con is pushing out cold air even in the heatwave. There's a few air con specialists in Brum as well who may be better at fault finding/ tracing

Cheers for that. Basically I took the car in for its service and MOT and asked him to check the air conditioning cos it’s been useless during the hot weather. Unbearable with leather seats. He checked the gas level was good then obviously plugged it in an came up with air quality sensor code. I was thinking of booking it into Autovolks Solihull as it’s not to far away. I’ve got to get the cam belt changed, the gearbox serviced  and I may aswell ask them to check the air con while I’m there. No doubt it’s gonna cost me a fortune 👍🏼

It's been a few years since I last used them, but I was a regular customer of Autovolks and always found them helpful and good value.

A month ago I have replaced my Air Quality Sensor with the Chinese one.
I got few new errors beside AQS. Like High Pressure Sensor and Air Blower.
I have checked air con and they added 306gr of fluid. Still the same.
I have changed High Pressure Sensor. Still the same.
It even had fault of cutting air con compressor.
Then I have disconnected Chinese AQS and all faults have disappeared and everything is working (except flaps closing).
This one was some faulty AQS making some troubles to control unit.

Yeah I wouldn’t be fitting a knock off one. The air con system works using LINbus now so power, ground and a network for all the measuring components - if something interferes it causes havoc throughout

A bit late to this party but did everything work ok in the end?  I have the same issue, have swapped the sensor for  a Chinese one and it's caused havoc. As ApertureS says above...Nightmare! 29 faults showing up after. Swapped back to the OEM "faulty one" and all those other faults gone immediately.  Back to square 1

Thepart is actually hard to find at present. I can find one for £130, compared t the £17 for the Chnese one, which I appreciate didn't wrk. My issue is that I'm not convinced that it's necessarily the sensor. There are numerous posts on here that have similar issues, that seem to overlap, and none wth a solution.

 

It's going to be a trip to an electrical specialist when I can find a reliable one.

Thanks. I'd emailed these guys last week and when I gave the m the reg number, they responded so say they didn't have one. Apparently there's differenced to the units with the C, D etc suffix. Maybe, they've restocked. I'll drop them a tinkle to check again tomorrow. Appreciated.

So 5q0907643D is the one that is for a superb, it has since been superseded to 5Q0907643F so there will have been improvements hopefully! 
But F is the one you want :) 

D doesn’t exist anymore
